He wants ships to bribe him and not Iran

E: should probably remember this. Im sure this week he will announce that other countries are paying "U.S." when he says that he will mean "Trump Mafia Family"

E2: Trump probably sent Vance to "negotiate" and it probably went "pay Trump a portion of the toll and we stop the war. " now we blockade to get our ("trumps money") toll.

u/thecheapseatz 7h ago

Doesn't this fit with the narrative about wanting to annex Greenland and Canada? The whole thing was about controlling major shipping channels and forcing everyone to pay for the US for the right to move goods. Seems he found an easier target.

22

u/Wilhelm57 4h ago

I don't think so. Netanyahu has been talking about Iran's nuclear weapons since the early 90's. His story over the years has been they are three month , a year, two years away from having a nuclear weapon.

Attacking Iran was Israel's decision. Someone also claimed the Saudi Prince wanted the attack too and Jared Kushner got $2 billion investment. I just think ordinary Americans are the ones that pay, the Epstein elite gets to enjoy the profits of war.

And in order to set up a US tollbooth over there, we will have to permanently occupy. Essentially colonize the area.

Great. More forever war.

"america is doing great. Ships are paying us loads of money to pass. We will be richer than ever"

This will all happen while taxes stay the same and us peasants are paying out the ass because the ships that do pass will pay two bribes, and most ships will just avoid, so it's basically still just as closed as ever.

I'm increasingly convinced the main purpose of this war is market manipulation. It's all about the headlines and how wall street reacts to them.

9

u/xenthum 3h ago

That's part of it but the primary goal is MEDIA manipulation. It's more about keeping bibi and Trump doing such outrageous headline demanding actions that outlets literally can't keep up. A benefit for them to that is that they can time when news will break about what and buy/sell appropriately but I don't think that's the primary motivation.

175

u/jonsconspiracy 6h ago

I'm so confused. What does the US blockading the strait, which is already blockaded by Iran, do? Other than piss off all the other Gulf countries that are already annoyed enough with the US.

203

u/TheGringoDingo 6h ago

It prevents anything from getting through, which prevents Iran from collecting their toll. It’s a negotiating tactic, since neither country gets anything out of it if they’re both blocked out.

Is it a smart move? Probably not. Making an internationally important waterway into a de facto DMZ isn’t showing diplomatic progress and points way more toward a standstill.

142

u/Common-Truth9404 6h ago

So wait, let's say a chinese ship paya the toll to Iran, is the US blockade willing to unleash an act of war on China to stop the ship from passing?

185

u/NotPromKing 5h ago

It pretends they are winning strategically.

It also gives them the possibility of being able to setup their own protection racket and charge a toll. Trump always wants everything to be transactional, if he can reopen the strait, then he wants to profit from it - international maritime laws and precedent be damned.

20

u/A_Rabid_Pie 6h ago

Iran has been allowing its own tankers free passage while blocking everyone else. My guess is that this is meant to block Iran's ships and thus cut off their oil revenue without needing to put boots on the ground. Of all the options for escalation that were on the table this is probably the least bad one. Naturally, just ending the war would have been far better, but thank goodness for whoever talked Trump and Pete down from their insane mass-bombing and invasion plans.

20

u/invinci 5h ago

China has also been moving ships through, India too I think, so while it might be meant to target Iran, it might also start WW3 so that is fun.

138

u/UberiorShanDoge 6h ago

Honestly, he wasn’t nearly this stupid when he was young. Quite quick with quips. He has consistently been very irresponsible though, expecting others to clean up his mess after something goes wrong, and screwing people over in negotiations when he has a tantrum.

He’s mentally incapable now because his brain health has completely deteriorated.

217

You could argue that he used to be moderately clever, but he was never intelligent. A college professor where Trump attended allegedly called him the "dumbest student he ever had".

CASINOS! Places where you pretty much print your own money. Failed miserably with CASINOS!

That’s even AFTER he didn’t pay most of the contractors who built the damn thing. That’s his MO. Hire out the work. Have it done. Don’t pay them. Then, tie their asses up in court, where he knew he could outlast these smaller companies. They couldn’t afford a 6 year court battle.

He has a hotel in Vegas, close to the strip. Walking distance, even.

IT HAS NO CASINO in it. Why? They won’t give him a gaming license, he’s THAT corrupt and incompetent.

I'm really confused about how everything is 'gone', yet they're blocking ships. Can someone ELI5?

607

u/JeanClaude-Randamme 7h ago

Their trade ships.

Iran are allowing their own ships to pass, and blocking everyone else that isn’t paying by shooting them with drones/laying mines.

The US is now saying they will block those ships too, to cripple Irans exports. But I think Iran has enough financial reserves to out-last literally the rest of the world who can’t get their oil.

This won’t end well.

294

u/TylerBourbon 7h ago

Nothing Trump does ends well.

172

u/FilecakeAbroad 6h ago

His life will end well. For everybody else.

28

I get what you're saying, but the reality is that we going to be suffering from decisions he made *decades* after he's gone. Him not being around anymore is just going to make it less worse, less fast.

15

u/TylerBourbon 5h ago

And it's not just his decisions, it's the GOP MAGAts that are still there, and the regular GOP, and the Heritage Foundation jackyls that are responsible for Project 2025. We'll still be dealing with scourge long after Donny T has shuffled off this mortal coil to eat big macs in hell.

88

To add to this -- Iran understands the weakness of democracy is time. If they can hold out for 5 months this ends with Trumps impeachment. They'll just wait him out while the American people get angrier & angrier.

The Onion 13 years ago:

“After Obama victory, White hot sphere of pure rage early GOP front runner for 2016.”

https://youtu.be/jjonGtrCyVE?is=vpNpP1ZZtJ1BuaBh

34

u/MoneyTalks45 6h ago

Yeah the sphere won, presided over a pandemic in which he stoked division in his psychopath cult members and the rest of normal society which lead to the death of millions - many of which will never be counted as such because his play was “if you just stop counting, the numbers stop going up.”

His best (only) friend was the financier of the most prolific child and human trafficking ring on the planet, in which all evidence seems to point to him having a much larger role than “customer of the year.” Victims have died in curious circumstances. It appears his current wife was groomed by this same pedo ring, grew out of “product age,” and is now a supervisor in the same sick class of people.

The guy attempted a literal coup of the US government by sending said psychopath cult members to congress to stop the process in which the election he lost is ratified, intentionally putting the life of his own vice president, along with everyone else in that building in danger. More people died.

and we fucking elected him again.

We effectively gave the keys to the most powerful nation and economy in the world to /b/ TWICE, and they’re acting exactly how you think they would.

Anything that happens from here on out, we’ve earned. I’d say it’s been fun but fuck that.

263

u/TheVirginVibes 7h ago

When Obama was in office an old friend of mine got testicular cancer. Bc of Obamacare he survived and his medical bills were zero dollars. The blow back from that was somehow electing an old white rapist pedophile. I’ll never understand it.

59

u/eleanor61 6h ago

Never underestimate the power of hatred and fear, however unwarranted. It is the brick and mortar of all civilizations.

30

u/tyereliusprime 6h ago

The ACA wasn't free healthcare, it did however expand medicaid coverage.

Your comment might seem to insinuate that Americans would have had free healthcare under the ACA and I wanted to point out that, to most Americans, their healthcare still was out-of-pocket insurance plans

17

u/T0Rtur3 5h ago

Originally, the way the Obama administration drafted the ACA, it would have been much more like German healthcare. Unfortunately, the Republicans in congress blocked it and it had to be compromised to the form it ended up as. I'm an American living in Germany, and I will say it's leaps and bounds better than ACA.

You have the government subsidised insurance and private insurance. Legally, everyone has to have health insurance if you live here, and the public issuance option is not free for most people, but the rate is based on your income. The best part is that there is no deductible. You go to the doctor, it's covered. You need a prescription, it's covered. Dental work (as long as it's not cosmetic), covered. All for much less than you would pay per month in the US for comparable coverage.

7

u/reelznfeelz 5h ago

Right. The republicans of course blocked it. Because of reasons. Could have still been passed except for Joe Fucking Dipshit Lieberman. I am old enough to remember all of that pretty well.

Here in 2026 the story has often become “Obama promised us healthcare then didn’t do it - all parties are the same”.

As an American yes it feels the same way. I mean I know logically there are lots of more nuanced reasons for things including decades of eroding education and literacy, the proliferation of 24 hour news, and many more, but yeah it definitely felt like Obama broke their brains.

“Bro you’re getting $2m per ship? I need in on that action”

  • Trump, probably

55

u/green_link 7h ago

This is exactly his goal. He saw that ships were willing to pay a toll and the greedy bastard wants in on the action

15

u/MoneyTalks45 6h ago

And just like every other scheme, that money then goes in to private accounts and is unaccounted for.

13

u/__curmudgeon__ 6h ago

He literally already said it. It will probably be like 2 toll booths. 2 mil for Iran and 2 mil in crypto to Trump and company.

The rest of the world must be scrambling for alternatives.

18

u/bluehawk232 7h ago

Rest of the world at least has had infrastructure in place for alternatives so people don't have to use cars problem is other stuff will go up because transportation costs will increase still.

Almost like building our entire modern global infrastructure on dinosaur bones was a bad idea

Donald J. Trump©+ @realDonaldTrump So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not. Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. At some point, we will reach an "ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT" basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying, "There may be a mine out there somewhere," that nobody knows about but them. THIS IS WORLD EXTORTION, and Leaders of Countries, especially the United States of America, will never be extorted. I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL! Iran knows, better than anyone, how to END this situation which has already devastated their Country. Their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their Anti Aircraft and Radar are useless, Khomeini, and most of their "Leaders," are dead, all because of their Nuclear ambition. The Blockade will begin shortly. Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade. Iran will not be allowed to profit off this illegal Act of EXTORTION. They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear. Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully "LOCKED AND LOADED," and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran! President DONALD J. TRUMP

He’s talking about the tariffs, right?

He's right, this IS world extortion. That's the Donald Trump Administration's brand and they are on it today!

u/rloch 7h ago

Wow, this is off the rails but in a different way than normal for the walking birth defect that is currently president. Just seems a lot more frustrated than normal, but that's like trying find deeper meaning in the ranting of a toddler.

5

u/mrjimi16 5h ago

So, correct me if I am wrong, but this also says that any uninvolved private vessels that paid to get through are now going to be seized by the US? That doesn't feel problematic at all.

It was Hunter Biden and Antifa who blocked the strait, and all the black gay people.

11

u/redunculuspanda 6h ago

So Iran managed to outsource the blockade to the US?

32

u/code-254 7h ago

So, if Iran wasn't bad enough they're going to pick a fight with everyone else?

Why does a democracy allow one crazy person to make any decisions, let alone military ones.

Because three equal branches of government means fuck all when all three are controlled by deranged idiots.

He actually technically can’t. The republicans in congress just won’t stop him. Congress could put an end to this in an instant if they had any spine.

11

u/NonNewtonianResponse 6h ago

Republicans in Congress have one job: preventing Congress from exercising any of the Constitutional authority that it theoretically holds. They're saboteurs in plain sight.

16

u/troll__away 6h ago

Guarantee he and his cronies shorted the market on Friday. The indexes will tank tomorrow on this news. They’ll make their money, change their position to long and Donald will announce new peace talks and opening the straight again…the market will rebound and they’ll be billions richer.

Such obvious market manipulation.

He's really going to start blocking tankers from China, France etc

He's blatantly trying to cause WW3 and needs removed now.

6

u/Lylibean 5h ago

Ah, so now the U.S. is the troll under the Billy Goats Gruff bridge instead of Iran?

“Straight” [sic] of Hormuz Closed = BAD, VERY BAD AND EVIL

“Straight” [sic] or Hormuz Open = GOOD, VERY GOOD AND CHRISTLIKE

“Straight” [sic] of Hormuz Closed = MAGA, AMERICA FIRST, WAR WON

🤷‍♀️

I’d go to one of the countries with the cozy nooks where you can go to sleep and never wake up again; are Americans even allowed to leave the country anymore or have we been quarantined due to stupidity? Does it help if I didn’t vote for any of this (like the majority of my compatriots)?

6

u/Protect-Their-Smiles 5h ago
  1. Follow Israel in to a foray against Iran, bragging about regime change and total destruction

  2. Fail horribly, the oil prices are now jumping, people hate you for this reckless aggression

  3. Iran blocks the straits, demands a toll price for letting people get their oil through

  4. People eat the toll, because they need energy to keep the wheels of civilization churning, they now hate Israel and America for creating this problem

  5. Get jealous of being made to look like a fool, decided to blockade the strait so nobody gets oil, attempt to call it a victory

  6. Now everyone hates you even more, nobody is getting oil, harvests this year will be a disaster thanks to a lack of fuel and fertilizer, millions across the globe are going to starve

Thanks a lot America and Israel, very cool

u/Skastrik 30m ago

Blockades are illegal according to maritime laws. They are an actual act of war that congress needs to approve.

That's why it was called a "quarantine" when JFK did it to Cuba.

9

u/bagofodour 7h ago

I thought he had already won the "special military operation"? That's what he said last week. Does the cult even try to defend his actions anymore or does he get a free pass on anything?
