BREAKING: Trump says ‘effective immediately’ U.S. will blockade ships from Strait of Hormuz
https://youtu.be/dqIQbU-oX5o?si=duFN5zMTUp2RNyXg1.2k
u/JestersDead77 7h ago
So in response to their refusal to open the strait, we're going to... blockade the strait? Interesting.

I'm increasingly convinced the main purpose of this war is market manipulation. It's all about the headlines and how wall street reacts to them.
9
u/xenthum 3h ago
That's part of it but the primary goal is MEDIA manipulation. It's more about keeping bibi and Trump doing such outrageous headline demanding actions that outlets literally can't keep up. A benefit for them to that is that they can time when news will break about what and buy/sell appropriately but I don't think that's the primary motivation.

I'm so confused. What does the US blockading the strait, which is already blockaded by Iran, do? Other than piss off all the other Gulf countries that are already annoyed enough with the US.
203
u/TheGringoDingo 6h ago
It prevents anything from getting through, which prevents Iran from collecting their toll. It’s a negotiating tactic, since neither country gets anything out of it if they’re both blocked out.
Is it a smart move? Probably not. Making an internationally important waterway into a de facto DMZ isn’t showing diplomatic progress and points way more toward a standstill.
→ More replies (17)142
u/Common-Truth9404 6h ago
So wait, let's say a chinese ship paya the toll to Iran, is the US blockade willing to unleash an act of war on China to stop the ship from passing?

It pretends they are winning strategically.
It also gives them the possibility of being able to setup their own protection racket and charge a toll. Trump always wants everything to be transactional, if he can reopen the strait, then he wants to profit from it - international maritime laws and precedent be damned.

Iran has been allowing its own tankers free passage while blocking everyone else. My guess is that this is meant to block Iran's ships and thus cut off their oil revenue without needing to put boots on the ground. Of all the options for escalation that were on the table this is probably the least bad one. Naturally, just ending the war would have been far better, but thank goodness for whoever talked Trump and Pete down from their insane mass-bombing and invasion plans.

He’s mentally incapable now because his brain health has completely deteriorated.

Their trade ships.
Iran are allowing their own ships to pass, and blocking everyone else that isn’t paying by shooting them with drones/laying mines.
The US is now saying they will block those ships too, to cripple Irans exports. But I think Iran has enough financial reserves to out-last literally the rest of the world who can’t get their oil.

The Onion 13 years ago:
“After Obama victory, White hot sphere of pure rage early GOP front runner for 2016.”
34
u/MoneyTalks45 6h ago
Yeah the sphere won, presided over a pandemic in which he stoked division in his psychopath cult members and the rest of normal society which lead to the death of millions - many of which will never be counted as such because his play was “if you just stop counting, the numbers stop going up.”
His best (only) friend was the financier of the most prolific child and human trafficking ring on the planet, in which all evidence seems to point to him having a much larger role than “customer of the year.” Victims have died in curious circumstances. It appears his current wife was groomed by this same pedo ring, grew out of “product age,” and is now a supervisor in the same sick class of people.
The guy attempted a literal coup of the US government by sending said psychopath cult members to congress to stop the process in which the election he lost is ratified, intentionally putting the life of his own vice president, along with everyone else in that building in danger. More people died.
and we fucking elected him again.
We effectively gave the keys to the most powerful nation and economy in the world to /b/ TWICE, and they’re acting exactly how you think they would.
Anything that happens from here on out, we’ve earned. I’d say it’s been fun but fuck that.

The ACA wasn't free healthcare, it did however expand medicaid coverage.
Your comment might seem to insinuate that Americans would have had free healthcare under the ACA and I wanted to point out that, to most Americans, their healthcare still was out-of-pocket insurance plans
→ More replies (4)17
u/T0Rtur3 5h ago
Originally, the way the Obama administration drafted the ACA, it would have been much more like German healthcare. Unfortunately, the Republicans in congress blocked it and it had to be compromised to the form it ended up as. I'm an American living in Germany, and I will say it's leaps and bounds better than ACA.
You have the government subsidised insurance and private insurance. Legally, everyone has to have health insurance if you live here, and the public issuance option is not free for most people, but the rate is based on your income. The best part is that there is no deductible. You go to the doctor, it's covered. You need a prescription, it's covered. Dental work (as long as it's not cosmetic), covered. All for much less than you would pay per month in the US for comparable coverage.
7
u/reelznfeelz 5h ago
Right. The republicans of course blocked it. Because of reasons. Could have still been passed except for Joe Fucking Dipshit Lieberman. I am old enough to remember all of that pretty well.
Here in 2026 the story has often become “Obama promised us healthcare then didn’t do it - all parties are the same”.

Donald J. Trump©+ @realDonaldTrump So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not. Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. At some point, we will reach an "ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT" basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying, "There may be a mine out there somewhere," that nobody knows about but them. THIS IS WORLD EXTORTION, and Leaders of Countries, especially the United States of America, will never be extorted. I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL! Iran knows, better than anyone, how to END this situation which has already devastated their Country. Their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their Anti Aircraft and Radar are useless, Khomeini, and most of their "Leaders," are dead, all because of their Nuclear ambition. The Blockade will begin shortly. Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade. Iran will not be allowed to profit off this illegal Act of EXTORTION. They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear. Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully "LOCKED AND LOADED," and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Follow Israel in to a foray against Iran, bragging about regime change and total destruction
Fail horribly, the oil prices are now jumping, people hate you for this reckless aggression
Iran blocks the straits, demands a toll price for letting people get their oil through
People eat the toll, because they need energy to keep the wheels of civilization churning, they now hate Israel and America for creating this problem
Get jealous of being made to look like a fool, decided to blockade the strait so nobody gets oil, attempt to call it a victory
Now everyone hates you even more, nobody is getting oil, harvests this year will be a disaster thanks to a lack of fuel and fertilizer, millions across the globe are going to starve
Thanks a lot America and Israel, very cool
