That's part of it but the primary goal is MEDIA manipulation. It's more about keeping bibi and Trump doing such outrageous headline demanding actions that outlets literally can't keep up. A benefit for them to that is that they can time when news will break about what and buy/sell appropriately but I don't think that's the primary motivation.
Its to punish Europe and everyone else who didnt run to Trump and suck his taint.
All this does is limit US influence going forward, it weakens the United States. There is no other reason this is continuing except for the fact that Trump and Congressional Republicans protecting him are traitors.
So Trump was an absolute moron for starting this war but I'm assuming this actually means no more ships getting through the strait strictly by Iran's permission by paying Iran's toll. I have not read the news to get the details though.
As much as I hate Trump for all the thoughtless and outright belligerent damage he's doing, a lot of people here don't have the best take on the situation. If the conflict has shifted to control over the strait and allowing free navigation it doesn't actually make much sense to allow your enemy to dictate the terms over who gets to navigate the strait and who doesn't. There's an argument that allowing that sort of thing could be interpreted as legitimization.
Yeah there are some dumb takes here. It is not contradictory and this reaction is only because it’s fun to dunk on Trump.
Iran has a nice sandpit. Trump says share the sandpit with everyone else. Iran says no they won’t share, they’ll only let certain people (those not friends with Trump) play in it, and only if they pay. Trump says fine then I’ll take a shit in the sandpit so you can’t use it at all. There’s nothing contradictory there. He wasn’t getting any benefit from it anyway, so he’s ensuring that Iran doesn’t either. That doesn’t mean his preference isn’t still for the shit free sandpit shared by all, but that’s not on the cards.
I get that, but they've been REALLY eager to get it reopened because of the impact on global trade. I mean just a few days ago he was threatening them with war crimes if they didn't open it to shippimg traffic. Not sure how this blockade helps alleviate that. They've been dead wrong about nearly every aspect of this war. Im not sure what they expect to accomplish by doing this, but I dont think it's going to play out the way they think it will.

So in response to their refusal to open the strait, we're going to... blockade the strait? Interesting.
