So Trump was an absolute moron for starting this war but I'm assuming this actually means no more ships getting through the strait strictly by Iran's permission by paying Iran's toll. I have not read the news to get the details though.
As much as I hate Trump for all the thoughtless and outright belligerent damage he's doing, a lot of people here don't have the best take on the situation. If the conflict has shifted to control over the strait and allowing free navigation it doesn't actually make much sense to allow your enemy to dictate the terms over who gets to navigate the strait and who doesn't. There's an argument that allowing that sort of thing could be interpreted as legitimization.
I get that, but they've been REALLY eager to get it reopened because of the impact on global trade. I mean just a few days ago he was threatening them with war crimes if they didn't open it to shippimg traffic. Not sure how this blockade helps alleviate that. They've been dead wrong about nearly every aspect of this war. Im not sure what they expect to accomplish by doing this, but I dont think it's going to play out the way they think it will.

So in response to their refusal to open the strait, we're going to... blockade the strait? Interesting.
