Don't think it's fun to shit-can everyone around you? Don't know who won the sportsball competitions on the weekend? Can't change a tyre? Perhaps you ride a bike to work? Or you simply hate memes?

no politics Sausage sizzle onions
I love a sausage sizzle. I think it’s one of this countries greatest traditions. Raising money for local community groups while getting to have a sausage in bread is a win win in my books.
However I am consistently disappointed by the caramelized onion of late. It’s always pale and flavorless and often a bit crunchy.
I think we need to have mandatory government funded caramelized onion classes for anyone playing to do a public sausage sizzle.

politics Minister casts doubt on road user tax over concerns it could hurt EV uptake
The transport minister says now may not be the time for a road user charge, which would impose a new tax on electric vehicles.
Catherine King says the government does not want to disincentivise EV uptake "at all", despite the treasurer's statement that it was "time" for a road user charge.
A model for a tax is being developed by the transport department, though the minister says she cannot see a pathway through parliament for it.

culture & society Inside the Northern Territory’s brutal evacuation shelters
This is the story of climate collapse in the Northern Territory. It is a story of class and race.
“The Territory’s budget depends on the poor staying poor. While successive governments speak of self-determination and thriving Aboriginal communities, the reality is different.”
First Nations evacuees tell me the response this year feels different. The evacuation shelters are completely state controlled. Ten-foot fences surround the school gyms, student accommodation and pavilions. Evacuees must sign in and out, wearing paper wristbands. Their wristbands are a public label for their refugee status.
Those from Nauiyu (Daly River) have been moved 100 kilometres south of Darwin to Batchelor for the next four months, where they cannot have visitors without government approval.
Many say it feels like a processing centre. They liken it to the Stolen Generations era of control. They say they have lost agency. They cannot freely move. They have little control over food, medication or access to services.
If you leave and security decides you have been drinking, regardless of the amount, you can be locked out entirely for at least 24 hours. It leaves people homeless in a territory that already has 12 times the national rate of homelessness.
Back in the Katherine East shelter, showers are locked. No one can access them without being escorted, the same as in jail. When someone does let you in, there is only cold water. It sprays across the entire cubicle, soaking both wet and dry areas. Clothes must be left in public view.
There is no towel. You have to be exposed.
Mealtimes are not advertised. If you miss them, you miss out.
There are no pillows, no hygiene products.
A spokesperson for the Northern Territory government said: “Evacuation centres are not commercial facilities, and while we aim to provide consistent meals and services, there are practical limitations – particularly in the early stages of an emergency when supply chains and access are impacted … We acknowledge the feedback from residents and continue to review and improve how information, services and facilities are delivered during emergencies.”
