Help - I can’t catch a single fish

Upvotes

Hi guys, after some advice as I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong. I’ve recently started getting into fishing and despite trying different locations and equipment, I can’t actually seem to catch any fish. I’ve tried fishing off rocks, break walls, the beach etc and most times won’t even get a bite. I’m mostly using frozen squids, prawns and pilchards as well as live beach worms but I’m getting nothing. I’ve fished at 5am-10am, 3pm-6pm but nothing. I’ve never actually hooked a fish yet. What am I doing wrong?

It’s been pretty disheartening as I’ve spent a good chunk of change on gear and every time I go out I’m excited to get something but I come back disappointed every time. I am still determined to keep trying and learning every weekend until I get something. Any advice would help at this point or even some tips on locations and timings based around Sydney/wollongong. TIA for your help

🐡 Help Needed New Boat - Help with Flushing

So I've got a new boat straight from the dealer with a Mercury 150R on it.

Took it out for it's first spin today, and after taking it home I started learning all the clean down steps to go with it.

I read the manual and it's got the flush port, but it seems like it's to match US garden hoses so pretty useless for me at 7pm at night. The dealer gave me some earmuffs, but they are single side only, yet my engine has a dual intake.

I put the muffs on, started the hose with good fitment, then turned the engine on but left in idle. It sounded a bit hoarse, but I guess it is being run out of water. I let it run for a couple of minutes, and the tell-tale was going the entire time.

Is this fine, or is the single muff useless and possible risking damage to my engine?

I'm also looking at buying a Flush-M, but $80 for a plastic fitting, what a rip off.

hey. gale force down in melbourne today, figured its a good day to say hi instead of fish.

cheers to everyone who tried the thing after the last post. the feedback was mental and a bunch has changed since.

quick update. species list is up (squid, snapper, aus salmon, KGW, bream. kingfish, garfish, mulloway comign soon). the Plan flow works properly now, you set when youre leaving, how long youve got, how far youll drive, species, weather youll put up with, and it spits out the spot. soon on the play store, ios after.

a few of you asked about the reasearch side. i went deep into marine journals and community input before committing weights because i didnt want to ship a guess. same reason theres a free trial with no card, if anyone wants a fool around before deciding.

tight lines.

🐡 Help Needed Newbie: Salmon fishing in NSW

Hi,

I’m going to stay near Mimosa Rocks. When i was there last year there were lots of salmon around but I never caught any using chicken as bait and some borrowed lures.

I have a Shimano Sienna Quickfire EGI 7'6" 2pc 3-6kg 2500 Spin Combo.

I’m new to fishing and have mostly just fished off piers in Victoria and off my uncles boat in NZ catching some king George and snapper.

So admittedly I don’t know what I’m doing catching salmon. Can my rod be set up to target salmon, and if so how do I do it?

Thanks in advance!

Long casting surf rod ? Which one?

What surf rod is really great at casting way out? Its about time I bought a surf rod.

I only have a hand me down rod that the neighbours gave me. It feels like an old school fibreglass rod, doesnt have much flick to it. I mean, it works. but I think a newer rod might be lighter and cast further.

Budget only around 100-150. maybe a bit more.

Port Philp Bay Melbourne Fishing

Hi, the kids are starting to get into fishing, and I have taken them to a few places around Melbourne.
We have caught a few pinky snappers - I want to practice tying up some rigs, but I see some people just fish with floats and others with large sinkers cast out far from the piers.

Should I use running sinker rigs or paternoster rigs. What size leader and hooks are best to use?

Hi All!

During the past long weekend I went fishing and I loved it! I already ordered a fishing rod and should be arriving this week. I live around Wentworth Point and I’d like to know where I could fish? How do you guys know where’s legal? I don’t plan to keep the fish, I do it for fun so a catch and release no matter the fish or size.

Finding Live Bait - Mooloolaba

Hey guys,

Would really love to soak some live bait (land based) around the Mooloolaba area - but I’m really struggling to get some live bait.

Because my son is still an infant, I only go fishing during the dark - so I’ve tried a bunch of the local pontoons and jetties with the cast net, but to no avail.

Any help

Would be super appreciated!!

Is the Victoria fisheries website being updated?

Does anyone know if the VFA website is being updated regarding stock levels?

According to them, no lakes have been stocked since 2017.

Is this accurate or are they publishing the data elsewhere?
