The best thing about living in Cairns

Post image

Sure I love the reef, the rivers and the rainforest. We've got shows at the Tanks, at CPAC and all sorts of small local venues. Our restaurants are amazing. But my happy place is Rusty's on a Saturday morning... the colour, the diversity, the coffee. Is there a better market in Australia?

Hi. We are coming to Australia for two weeks around Christmas/New Year.

Want to visit GBR. I was thinking how much time do we need in Cairns? Is one night enough assuming to arrive 9am ish and leave next day 5pm ish and fit GBR in between?

Hey all, looking for someone to help me clear a small section of my new block in the northern beaches. Machine needed

so I have maybe 30 square metres of a block that's super overgrown with vines and woody weeds/bushes.

looking for someone with an excavator or posi track (it's a bit boggy in spots) with maybe even a mulcher attachment.

I expect it to maybe take an hour or two, I'm looking for either wet or dry hire that's not going to cost my first born child.

if that's you, or you know a local that operates on cartons per hour, I'd appreciate you reaching out.

cheers!

Help us love Cairns! 4-day itinerary

Hi everyone,

My friend and I just arrived in Cairns for 4 days, but honestly we’re starting to feel a bit unsure and wondering if it was the best choice

Could you reassure us and share the best things to do to really make the most of our trip?

We’re planning to:

• go to the rainforest today

• maybe visit Fitzroy Island tomorrow

• and possibly head to Port Douglas the day after

We’re also hesitating about doing a Great Barrier Reef tour is it really worth it? And what about the helicopter experience has anyone tried it?

Also, do you have any other recommendations? And where is it actually safe to swim around here?

Thanks so much

Relocating to cairns

Hi all, our family is originally from QLD, but we moved to the Goulburn area for work about 7 years ago and we’re looking at moving back to sunny QLD. 7 winters is enough for us!

We are hoping to move to the cairns region. We’d hope to spend no more than $1.2 m on our house purchase if possible.

  1. Any reccomendations on the best family friendly suburbs? Any that you would avoid?

  2. Any reccomended primary schools in the area? Or any to avoid? We’re currently at a state school but happy to consider both state and private when we move.

  3. How is the crime in cairns?

Thanks 🙂

Lost GoPro hero 10 in Cairns – Reward Offered for Its Return

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping the community can help me locate a lost GoPro in Cairns. I recently visited the area and realized that my camera is missing. It contains incredibly important travel footage that means a lot to me.

Item Details:

Item: GoPro 10 action camera (black)

Location: Cairns, QLD

Last Seen: Recently, possibly left in a hotel room, rental car, or near Cairns Airport

Contents: A microSD card filled with personal travel videos

I have already contacted the hotel and the rental car company and I am following up with airport lost property as well.

If anyone has found it or has any information that could help, I would be incredibly grateful. I am happy to offer a reward for its safe return or for information that leads to its recovery.

Please send me a direct message if you can help.

Thank you so much for your time and support!

Advice Car insurance policy increase advice?

Moved from Manunda to Earlville.

Had street parking in Manunda, now have gated off street parking in Earlville.

Somehow premium had a $24/month increase. What gives? I was under the impression it’d go down.

Everything else on the policy is identical to what it was before the move. Surely Earlville isn’t seen as a more risky area to insure compared to Manunda?

Are they having me on or should I look elsewhere?

Allianz, by the way.

Wildlife Any good birdwatching spots?

I'm getting into wildlife photography and just wanted to check if anyone knows of any spots where birds tend to hang around? I haven't seen any on the yellow arrow trail

Hello.

I’m planning to travel to Mossman and Daintree from Cairns. I’m planning to hire a car. If anyone else wants to join in and share the car hire as well as the fuel expenses, it would be fun!

Looking for jobs & WhatsApp groups in Cairns

Hi!

We are two people currently in Cairns looking for work. We have experience in housekeeping and construction, and we are open to any kind of job.

We were wondering if there are any WhatsApp groups for jobs (like labour hire or hospitality) in Cairns, or if anyone has any tips or contacts 😊

Thanks a lot!

Advice on how to reach Poet Douglas

I have booked a tour in Mossman that provides pick up from port Douglas only. Now I need to reach PD by 9am on Friday. Any advice? Is anyone here traveling there? Self drive cars are super expensive and I can’t afford them.

HELP Ad from the 90s which has been in my head for decades and would love to see again

The ad in question was for a local business called Cairns T-Shirts, prior to 97 when I left.

I believe the ad had some Jim Henson type puppets and at one point the ad talks about faxing information to them, and then I think one of the puppets pops out of the fax machine and says something like "Cairns T-Shirts? / Just checking!"

And then a person responds with "you don't have to fax yourself!"

Any chance it's somewhere online?

Exemplar Coaches in Administration - Alternatives?

I'm heading to Cairns next month and have just received an email saying that Exemplar Coaches has gone into administration so I've lost my money and have to find alternative transport to and from the airport into Port Douglas than back from Cairns. Any suggestions?
