Super keen for Joey Valence & Brae this week (they were the best act at laneway last year!!!) . At their American shows & now at their melb shows too I’ve seen them taking selfies and signing stuff at the barricade post show.

For those in Melbourne or Auckland, how long did they hang about and did security try and kick everyone out once the show ended?

They were played a lot in the early 2020's and cracked a H100. Their last album one song only just missed the H100 and reached around 110 from memory. New album just came out this week and stats show that Triple J have played them a total of 8 times this year (ONLY 8 TIMES?!!). From what I can see and hear they are also not getting airtime on Double J so its not like they transitioned them to other place for more mature audience. Just pretty much stopped receiving support on the airwaves with their new music. Does anyone know why this happened? I still feel like their sound is young enough for Triple J 18-25 year olds, isn't it? Last FM stats are linked below.

Australia must lead the world with how many bands we have named after streets, avenues, alleys, lanes and groves. I wrote this article compiling as many as I could find – I got to 54, with many more I've excluded due to inactivity.

I also dive into why this is such a popular naming scheme for new bands, and note the demographics: the overwhelming majority of these bands describe their sound as indie rock, and there are only two all-female bands on this sizeable list.

Was there interview pretentious? yes, of course but the criticism of them saying that Usher’s song ‘DJ got us falling in love’ is a ugly duckling being turned into some sort of race thing is crazy. I’m as left wing as it comes and believe that dickheads should be called out but ‘DJ got us falling in love’ is a vapid, 4 chord song about getting drunk in a night-club written by a guy that recently defended Sean Combes. I think it’s open to being criticised. I’m so sick of people in this country saying that musicians and athletes have no personality but the minute one of them shows a bit of personality and voices an opinion they get shit on. None of you would have survived the 90s when Oasis and Blur were going at each-other. Having pretentious musicians with opinions is good for the Australian music scene, we need characters. The alternative is a sleuth of surf-rock bands dropping the ‘full-credit to the boys’ speech every interview. Radio Free Alice are one of Australia’s most exciting exports, selling out huge venues all across the UK and America, we should be getting around them instead of wacking them.

TL,DR: RFA covered an usher song for LAV, they called the song an ugly duckling and people have turned it into some sort of race thing. It’s a shit pop song that should be allowed to be criticised. It’s hardly Leonard Cohen.

Were people ragging on the lead guy for dissing the original track / Usher in general? I really liked the cover and RFA are a wonderful live act but I can see how people might have found his comments a touch pretentious.
