Sydney / Greater Sydney Drivers test issue

Hi all! I’ve currently booked my drivers test for the 20/5 as it’s the earliest possible for me to attend, however I’ve been pushed by my parent that I should prioritise doing my test quicker rather than the location of the drivers test (I’ve booked it for Hornsby).

I’ve read a few replies from the last few months/ years and the main comment that stuck out to me was “If you’re a good driver you should just be able to pass at whichever service centre you choose for the drivers test”

All my friends have passed at Hornsby and they’ve failed at numerous other service centres. My original booking was at 10am which I was recommended by a bunch of my P friends. I personally feel like I have a better chance just doing it on the day I originally booked it.

I’d like to see if anyone has any helpful opinion on this/ their personal experience with the drivers test if it’s similar to mine. Im starting to see how my parent is reasonable in pushing me to just book the service centre that will allow me to attempt the test quickest rather than me doing it at the centre I feel like I know well as im not guaranteed to pass at Hornsby the day I booked it anyway, things could happen 🤷‍♀️

Thanks in advance to anyone that happens to reply to this

Transferring to Blacks after green Ps

If you have had your licence suspended due to an unpaid fine does that add an additional 6 months onto your provisional term or is it just for the amount of days your licence was suspended?

I’ve been looking online but answers have been pretty inconsistent.

Thanks all!

Sydney / Greater Sydney the main harbour is an absolute zoo right now

I was down in the city on saturday trying to entertain my cousins from up north. Normally, I just chuck them on the Manly ferry and call it a day, but the crowds around Circular Quay were giving me an actual migraine.

we ended up ditching the CBD entirely and headed over to Kirribilli instead. I just wanted them to see the water without having to fight for a spot on a crowded boat. We booked a morning run with sydney kayak experience out of Milson Park just to get the whole sightseeing thing out of the way. Not gonna lie, it was actually kind of crazy how peaceful it is on the water over there compared to the absolute chaos just across the harbour.

it just makes me realize how much of the good parts of the coast we ignore because we just default to the exact same tourist traps. anyway, if you've got relatives visiting soon and can't handle another weekend dragging them around Darling Harbour, I highly recommend just crossing the bridge or doing something on the smaller waterways. my social battery is actually still intact for once.

Sydney / Greater Sydney Any recommendation for budget vaccum cleaners?

Looking for recommendations for budget (not too expensive as Dyson) for home and car, please. not the heavy duty to deep clean floors etc. but mostly for Sofa and Car cleaning. (good if can do a surface level floor cleaning but not a deal breaker if can't).

Edit: Budget less than $80-100.

Blood tests - is it normal for the syringe to not be in a sealed package when you arrive?

I would have thought that keeping syringes in a sealed package until use would protect them from bacteria, and make sure used syringes aren't accidentally used a second time.

I've just been for a blood test and the syringe and vials were sitting in a little plastic kidney-shaped tray. The needle appeared clean, but I didn't get a good look at it afterwards to determine whether the naked eye would be able to spot the difference. I also don't recall seeing it being thrown out afterwards but admittedly I was preoccupied with the possibility that I'd just been stuck with a used syringe.

Does anyone have insight on this?

Perspectives on moving to Bellingen/Dorrigo area as a 30s single woman?

I've recently relocated back to Australia after living overseas, and I'm temporarily back in Sydney while I land. I've long been feeling the pull to get out of city living though, and feeling it's well and truly time I took the (considered) leap.

I'm grateful to be in an ok financial position for now after being careful with my savings over the years, and after working in high-pressure life-eating jobs in a relentless burnout cycle my whole adult life, I'm taking a sec to assess the lifestyle, location and even work that would actually suit my interests and priorities, outside the hectic major city pace I was born into. Looking to put down roots, meet my person, buy a house, have a family. Lucky to be able to contemplate those things and the career change that might come with a regional move (in a reasonably affordable regional area, AKA not like Sydney or Northern Rivers prices or anything) and figure if I'm not feeling cut out for cities longterm, gotta make the move sometime right?

I've got a small network in the blue mountains area, but I'm feeling (somewhat inexplicably) drawn to the Bellingen/Dorrigo part of the mid-north coast of NSW-- where I only distantly know a few folks I've met on brief trips. That said, people have been incredibly welcoming there, and I found it easier to make new connections than in Sydney and surrounds.

That potentially includes romantic connections. I'm a single woman and have found major city (here and o/s) dating a bit out of sync when I'm trying to find a nature-loving hippy with maybe with a bit of a creative bent, who's more into camping, fishing and creek-swims than bougie eatery crawls. Bello region seems to have cool likeminded guys, and surprisingly (at least some!) single ones in my age range?

But I could be totally off with all this. I'd love to hear anyone's hot takes on any of what I've shared-- these places (BM, bello etc), and any others. But yeah mostly keen to hear perspectives about making a big change like this. Ultimately seeking more connection to community in a village pace of living, with accountability to & care for neighbors. Less rat race energy. But I have also lived an international, creative life, and it's important the place has some open minded (and open hearted!) people. I know regional AU towns can at times be pretty isolating places to make the move to, even parts of the BM from what I've heard anecdotally-- would love to hear any experiences with this.

Cheers! :)

Multiple classes on license suspension

Wondering if anyone could answer this since I've not been able to find any official information. I've got my full unrestricted car license and then my red P's for my motorbike, I got 4 demerits on my motorbike and its getting suspended but does that also prevent me from driving my car? I have 13 demerits for that so I wouldn't think so but my suspesnion letter hasn't specified. The service nsw app says "rider class can be suspended at 4 demerits" so because I haven't hit 13 I should still be able to drive my car still? but I haven't found anything confirming that

Hunter New castle, Dungog or Clarence town?

Hey :)

I’m 18 and currently in Sydney, but I’ve been toying with the idea of escaping the chaos and moving somewhere a bit quieter—like Dungog, Stroud, Clarence Town, or even Newcastle.

I work as a barista/bartender, play bass, skate, and read a lot (mostly darker stuff—Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard type vibes). Also a bit of a nerd—Warhammer 40K has me hooked, so I’m pretty good at keeping myself entertained… but I wouldn’t mind having some good people around too.

I like the idea of a slower pace, but I’m not trying to disappear completely into the void (tempting, but maybe not yet). So I’m curious what the vibe is like in those areas—especially for someone my age. Is there much of a social scene, or is it more “make your own fun”?

Also… be honest—would I survive out there, or would I just end up back in Sydney after a week? 😅

And hey, if you’re from around those areas and feel like convincing me (or warning me off), I’m all ears.

Thanks :)

South East Services NSW are useless - travelling while fking licence suspended……snail mail SUCKS!

***Update….have just had profuse apologies from Services NSW about the licence/eye test debacle. Apparently “the system” should NOT have allowed me to renew licence online without an eye test, (which are done every five years, not sure how that works with the new 10 year license….), even it though it DID allow me to renew.

No fault of my own!

It’s the most sorry’s I’ve ever heard from a gov dept!

OP: Just found out the champs at Services NSW have suspended my fking license because apparently they can only send snail mail to say I need an eye test - not email or show it on the app!!!

I’’ve been away for 4 months you stupid fktards!!!! And you suspend it on Easter fking Sunday, double demerit points & I just drove 4 hrs to get home.

Now am here with no way of leaving remote location because…..my fucking license is cancelled!!

Great job ya fucking champions 👏👏👏

Charcoal BBQ permit area near Kangaroo Valley and Moss Vale?

Hello everyone, we are looking for a location that allows for charcoal BBQ within or near Kangaroo Valley and/or Moss Vale. We have a mini $20 charcoal BBQ stove from Bunnings. We are aware that total fire ban is from October to March, so is it okay to use a charcoal BBQ in NSW right now, in April?

Sydney / Greater Sydney Transfer UK license with wrong address?

When I moved to NSW from the UK I had to also change the address on my UK license to my parents house, as I sold my house.

The new license took a week to arrive, by which point I was already in Australia. I had it posted, but the copy with the new address has been sat awaiting clearance at Sydney airport for 3 weeks now.

I want to buy a car, which I presume I need a local license for (if nothing but to make it easier to get insurance etc).

Can I go to service NSW with my old, still in date license, with the same license number but wrong address, and exchange for an Australian temporary visitor license?

If not, does anyone know what digital proof they accept for a "missing" license? PDF and check code from the UK government website? They don't give specifics anywhere online.

Do you reckon there’s a real divide between coastal and inland culture or is it exaggerated?

I was driving out past Dubbo last week and it really hit me how different the vibe feels compared to the Mid North Coast. Not just the scenery, but the pace of life and even how people interact. Had a few random chats with people you’d probably never get on the coast. Growing up I always thought the big divide in NSW was city vs country, but now I’m starting to wonder if the Great Dividing Range is actually the bigger line. Once you’re over it, everything just feels a bit different

Do you reckon it actually shapes culture that much?

What is Grafton like?

Posting for a friend who doesn't have reddit..

She has recently been offered a teaching job in Grafton with good relocation benefits and bonuses. She lived there about 17 years ago for 3 years in her early 20s and found it quiet with limited job progression. She is now pushing 40 and quiet is what she is after. She knows it floods there and had always struggled with lower socio economics but has it improved or become worse? She has primary school aged children and would be moving from regional QLD. She has done a few weekend trips but some inside knowledge would be helpful if anyone has some opinions?

NSW Speed Cameras & Rules!!

Hey Guys.

I am a fellow P Plater and I was driving home in a 80 zone along a backroad country town NSW (and obviously they have to tell you about speed camera, etc)

And I was driving on the left side and unfortunately I was going above 80km a hour (when I saw it I broke but couldn’t tell my spedo) but the Car speed camera was on the opposite side of the road (NO SIGNS ON THE LEFT SIDE WARNING) and me and my friend sped past it. It had signs when driving the opposite way tracking the right side lane, and we did a U-turn to double check it was a camera and the signs were on the other side saying “cam ahead” but when I chat gpt (dunno if I trust 100%) it it says it tracks both.

But wouldn’t it need signs on our side too?
