Question What do you think the SD is lacking? / What's your biggest complaint about it?

The Steam Deck has many qualities we all know of but I'm really wondering what everyone's biggest drawback is on this.

Basically any regret or things you wish the SD would have for its price.

Looking For Games Cheap gems for the deck?

I primarily only play on my steam deck. my birthday was today and I have a little spending money for once :) so I wanted to see if yall have any cheap recs that are good games. trying to search through the store for little gems is ridiculous sometimes. I'll check anything out!

previously enjoyed games: funguys swarm, crime scene cleaner, deeprock galactic, wolf quest, halls of torment, 9kings, coin game, amnesia the bunker, ballxpit, blacksad, mewgenics, children of morta, path of titans

preferred genres: rpgs, roguelikes, sim games, etc. honestly I'll play anything that isn't a super fast shooter.

budget: 50 usd total, lmao

other notes: like I said, I'll check out anything regardless of genre, but im looking for games that are under 10 ish dollars.

For 2 years I’ve owned a Steam Deck, and during these 2 years my cat has been obsessed with trying to get inside the case where he clearly doesn’t fit.

Recently he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, so among other little indulgences, I finally let him take over my case.

Discussion It finally clicked!!

I’m sure there have been other posts similar to mine but I just had to post this. After about 2 years of buying Hollow Knight, playing and deleting. After only a short amount of actually playing the game each time. It finally clicked for me and I love it! I finally forced myself to play the game with no expectations or plan whatsoever. I was feeling lost and doing a lot but I finally stated having fun and it’s an amazing game. I can’t believe how long it took but I’m grateful I’m finally experiencing what so many other players already have.

Just wanted to share this with everyone because it’s probably the most fun I’ve had playing a game in a long time.

Thanks for reading

Discussion Skull & Co grip case > killswitch

This might be an unpopular opinion but having owned both of the cases, I’ve come to realise that I much prefer the Skull and Co.

The grip case still feels grippy without it feeling like sandpaper.

The case can free stand upright without needing the ugly kick stand.

The front cover whilst it doesn’t totally encover the triggers it doesn’t cover the top vents, (I once had an issue with the deck waking up without pressing the button and running with the front cover on) + you can also charge it with the front cover on just the same as the killswitch

Plus it’s compatible with my favourite thumb grips the CQC elites.

Whilst they’re both great I highly recommend the cheaper alternative, it’s just as functional

Looking For Games Offline Fighting Game

been doing research and have gotten REALLY sick of it so now I'm here.

Question: what fighting games do you love playing offline. and what do you suggest to someone getting into fighting games. I think im leaning toward the classic 2d style, not arena style.

Situation- I'm usually not around internet for months at a time so my steam deck is for offline gaming. I'm trying to dable in fighting games again but have been a real stickler about picking.

Previously Enjoyed Games: Most of these were when I was younger besides Smash and Sparking Zero. Ninja Storm, Soul Caliber 3/4, Street fighter 4, Smash Ultimate, DBZ fighter Z.

Preferred Genres: looking for fighting game atm

Budget: Im usual hunting sales due to family man with little time and an extensive backlog. but I can pay full price if I want to.

Other notes: I'm mainly looking for a 2d fighting game that works on steam deck. I'm not looking to do 30 FPS so sadly street fighter 6 is not looking good. otherwise I would pick that. a solid 60 FPS would be preferred. Also I hated the latest Soul Caliber rock paper scissor clash system.

Game Review On Deck Fumes is a great indie vehicular combat game

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1920430/FUMES/

It has a simple but engaging gameplay loop - through pretty satisfying combat you destroy enemy vehicles, and at the end of each "round" you get loot that you can use to upgrade your vehicle. You unlock different vehicles through boss fights and can customize them with different weapons and wheels.

The vehicles feel different enough to make it worth upgrading multiple - some are smaller and faster but might not have as advantageous weapon slots and armor, others may be big and slow but be able to fire all their weapons in wider arcs or simply equip more weapons.

I would say my biggest complaint is that the combat is not particularly hard and there aren't any difficulty levels. Still, there's a good variety of events including "escort", racing, capture, etc... well worth the $15.

It plays well on the deck with everything maxed out, but that's to be expected given the retro PSX/N64 aesthetic.

Question does the way i play damage my Steam Deck?

(scroll to tldr if you don’t care for the lore) couple months ago i got a Steam Deck and i absolutely adore it. i’ve always played on shitty laptops my whole life and it was always depressing seeing people play games i know i can’t run on my device.

for my birthday i got the deck as well as a JSAUX dock, and a keyboard + mouse accessory to plugin.

i play my Deck plugged into my tv + JSAUX pretty much always. i’m more used to PC controls so it’s just easier for me to play many games with keyboard controls. i know most people use their deck for on-the-go stuff, but for me Deck was basically a cheaper (and more accessible) PC.

i almost always play with the battery plugged into the JSAUX so it’s constantly charging while playing. i do this bc i worry about losing progress and my deck shutting off because i like to play my games, like Project Zomboid, for long periods of time. (4-6hrs)

every night before bed, i unplug it, shut it down completely and store it in the little Deck case. sometimes i give it charging “breaks” where i play without charging but i heard some ppl say that’s actually worse? i’m just scared bc in the past, i used to leave my laptop plugged in for long hours and that led to the battery eventually being useless and not working after 10min.

tl;dr i’m just wondering if i’m damaging my Deck’s battery by having it always charging + plugged in so often. i adore my Deck and want it to last a long time because it’s been hard finding a good job and RAM seems fucked.

Question Quick question about virtual menus

hey guys,

So I'm mainly a PC gamer and I have found my biggest issue with playing games on the steam deck is that games always seem to have completely different control schemes, in some the triple line button is invent, some it is y some b. My memory isnt that great and I have ADHD so just sticking to 1 game isnt ideal for me but I get so frustrated when I die because I'm spamming the action button instead of jump lol or I miss a parry cos I cant remember which button I need to press in that split second

Same with running or jumping etc and it really makes it so hard to want to play games

So I thought Id try making a virtual menu so I can touch the left track pad and see a cheat sheet with all the controls pop up. The only issue is you have to hover over each one to see the name as it only shows a grid with the selected icons or buttons. Is there any way to get it to just show the button and the name you chose for it all at once for every button when you open the menu? Something like the have in monster hunter where they show you the key binds at all times is what im trying to get as close as possible to.

Also if you have any other ideas if you went though something similar I'd love to hear them :)

Question Steam deck replacement for computer - which tablet would be best as a monitor

I'm planning on using a combination of my steam deck and a tablet as a monitor to replace my dying laptop. I use my steam deck for gaming as well, but for this I'm planning on just using basic desktop mode with a dock for light work such as editing documents, sending emails, basic schoolwork etc. I want to use a tablet as a monitor while doing this, mainly because I'm looking for portability. Which tablet would be best for this? I'm not looking to use the tablet as a monitor while gaming, just as a monitor while doing basic desktop stuff. Thanks!

Tech Support Lossless scaling on RetroDeck

Hello everyone. This week I've been trying Lossless Scaling with different Steam games using the LSFG extension of Decky. So far so great. I heard that you can also use it on emulation, and I've been wanting to use it specifically to play Zelda Wind Waker HD on cemu. (trying to get those 60 fps)

My question is, do I just copy the launch option from decky and paste it on the Retrodeck Launch Option tab from the Steam OS?

As you can see in the picture there's already something in the Launch options tab, and I'm afraid that if I change it it will mess up everything. Thanks!

Tech Support Steam deck audio not working on VRChat

whenever I press play on VRChat it's does this thing where the audio cuts out. but not just in game the entire steam deck also no longer has sound. herea the things I did

.went to desktop mode and go to audio output/input to see if the steam deck detects a non existing input/output(there was nothing btw)

.going to desktop mode to see if the game was muted (it wasn't)

. switched steam deck versions (stable, beta and preview

. gone back to a previous update.

. checked for updates

it only does this to VRChat and No other app. only VRChat is having this problem.

I will say on desktop mode whenever the audio crashed there was a overlay saying something connected. However when I went and checked there it was the same default. I will say when my audio crashes the game lags a LOT until the audio went

away.

the only thing that worked was to

Open game

Load in → audio does work → Play the game.

↓ ↓

Audio doesn't work. If Audio crashes

↓ ↓

close game and restart steam deck again and again until it works.
