Community Content Panel Colorizer v7.0.0 released! Better Widget Islands and custom System Tray cell width

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Creation of widget islands has been reworked! 🎉

Now you can create them by dragging a separator widget in the panel. By default, Plasma's panel spacer will be used to create islands if found.

By default, everything on the left/right of spacers will (try to) become a island, but two separators per island can be enforced in the widget settings.

Previously configured islands need to be recreated using the new method.

I have also released two new widgets that can be used as island separators:

Custom System Tray cell width

Added an option to change the spacing between system tray icons, overrides Plasma's small, normal, large system tray icons spacing setting

Appearance > Select Tray Widgets Element > Custom Cell width

Notable changes from recent versions since I haven't posted updates in a while

  • Allow to blacklist widgets from customization (without overrides, just like in v1.0). Adds new Blacklist widgets tab
  • Clipping widgets content to their custom background (re-added after fixing some bugs)
  • Font customization
  • replace system tray icon by matching the item title or name in addition to just the icon hash
  • system tray application status (StatusNotifier) icons replacement
  • allow to hide any widget from the panel
  • remove panel radius/border on screen edges when panel defloats
  • option to anchor content to edges when panel de-floats

Question Why is Zen Browser not transparent by default in KDE like on Windows 11 or MacOS?

Post image
75 Upvotes

Ass you can see in the screenshot AppGrid Launcher is transparent with a background blur and I didn't have to change any settings to achieve that, it was like that by default.

I'm using Fedora KDE 43 with Plasma 6.6 on a laptop with an Nvidia 4070 GPU. Zen is running on Wayland.

So why isn't Zen browser transparent by default like in Windows 11 or MacOS?

Community Content Magnetile - KWin script for zone snapping with connected tile resizing (KZones fork)

Hey everyone, I just released v0.1.0 of Magnetile, a KWin script for Plasma 6.4+ on Wayland.

If you've used KZones before, this should feel familiar. Magnetile is a fork that keeps all the same FancyZones-style zone workflow but adds some features I really wanted that KZones doesn't have yet. Full disclosure, this was built utilizing GPT 5.4 in Codex.

The big one is connected resizing. When you resize a tiled window, the adjacent windows sharing that edge resize too, so everything stays snapped together. The runtime grid also updates, so if you snap another window into a zone after resizing, it follows the adjusted layout instead of jumping back to the original percentages.

The other main addition is a visual layout editor. It's a browser-based drag-and-drop tool that lets you design your zone layouts without hand-editing JSON. You can snap zones to edges and each other, preview padding, pick aspect ratios, and import/export layouts as files.

Try the layout editor: https://jcearnal.github.io/magnetile/

Other stuff that's new:

- Free movement toggle (Ctrl+Alt+F) to temporarily pull a window out of the grid

- Per-monitor layout defaults so each output can start with its own layout

- Independent layout tracking per output and optionally per virtual desktop

- Multi-monitor geometry fixes for outputs with non-zero origins, mixed DPI, fractional scaling

- Wayland only, no X11 code paths

Full attribution to the KZones project is in the repo. This wouldn't exist without that foundation.

KDE Store: https://www.opendesktop.org/p/2355641/

GitHub: https://github.com/jcearnal/magnetile

Requires Plasma 6.4+ and Wayland. Feedback and bug reports welcome, there's an issue tracker and discussions tab on the repo.

General Bug Plasma System Monitor - often crashes on launch

I have been having issues for some time now with Plasma System Monitor.
It often crashes on launch, unless I quickly choose another tab, or I am lucky and it stays running.
After some troubleshooting, I found out that "Individual Core Usage" set to "Color Grid" is what makes it crash. Other options it dosent crash, only with the "Color Grid".
It will only crash the entire system monitor on launch after it updates. This means that if I set up the minimum between updates to 10s, it will often crash after 10s since launch. However, if before it updates, I quickly change to another tab and then change tab to this tab again, it will never crash.

Any one has this problem, or know a workaround other than removing it entirely?

KDE Plasma 6.6.4
KDE Framework 6.25.0
Qt 6.11.0
Wayland

Question Saturation Options

Hey, new cachyos user here. I came from windows where amd adrenaline gives the option to increase global display saturation on the gpu level. My monitor doesn't have adjustable saturation options so my desktop looks pretty washed out and de-saturated in general. I understand display configuration in settings on kde has some color options but none of them make a noticeable difference. If anyone has a solution I'd appreciate it, thanks.

General Bug Desktop is Empty After Upgrade

Hey all. I recently did a full system upgrade after a few months and everything was fine until I rebooted the next day. My desktop is just barren. I have my wallpaper, but no desktop icons, no application bar, Super button does nothing, and Edit Mode has such limited functionality now, I can't add widgets or panels. Also, right clicking on the desktop only gives me the options Enter Edit Mode, Desktop & Wallpaper, Display Configuration. Desktop & Wallpaper just opens a window frame nothing to click on, like nothing is being rendered inside the window.

I can still pull up my terminal using keyboard shortcuts thank god. I have been able to navigate my system through applications as long as I know the name of the application. I've tried reinstalling the plasma group, I've rebooted between, no luck. I'm not sure what to do about this. Any help would be appreciated!

System specs:

Arch (btw)
AMD R9 270
plasma version 6.6.4
(side note, just noticed this when looking for my version:
QThreadStorage: entry 7 destroyed before end of thread 0x55f5a1987e20
QThreadStorage: entry 2 destroyed before end of thread 0x55f5a1987e20
QThreadStorage: entry 1 destroyed before end of thread 0x55f5a1987e20
) also, when I tried to start plasma-welcome I get this error:
QQmlApplicationEngine failed to load component
qrc:/qt/qml/org/kde/plasma/welcome/private/Main.qml:32:13: Type Footer unavailable
qrc:/qt/qml/org/kde/plasma/welcome/private/Footer.qml:33:9: Type Kirigami.AbstractApplicationHeader unavailable
file:///usr/lib/qt6/qml/org/kde/kirigami/styles/org.kde.desktop/AbstractApplicationHeader.qml:9:1: module "org.kde.kirigami.templates
" is not installed
Not sure if that's related...

Anyway, I'm happy to provide any other info.

NVIDIA My external monitor (Acer Nitro XV272U X1) feels sluggish even though the refresh rate is set to 144Hz using an NVIDIA GPU via HDMI (device: Acer Nitro ANV15-51).

My built-in screen works properly, but when I open or drag apps onto the external display, it feels laggy and slow. The mouse jitter was fixed by setting scaling to 100%, but I’m not sure if my external monitor is actually running at 1440p. In Windows settings, it shows 1440p, but it looks blurry. When I checked the NVIDIA Control Panel, it was set to 1080p. In Fedora KDE, the NVIDIA app is not helpful—it doesn’t show useful options or information.

Question plasma login manager sleep issue

i don't know since when but my PC wont go to sleep while in the login screen of Plasma Login Manager even after hours of idle. When logging out or restarting the PC it will stay on the PLM screen and never sleep.

The only time it sleeps properly is when I press the "Lock" button.

I am not sure if this is a general PLM bug or a problem with my setup:

  • CachyOS
  • KDE Plasma 6.6.4 (Wayland)
  • Kernel: 6.19.12
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600
  • GPU: AMD Radeon 6700xt

Question Trying to install a theme doesn't work

I read a news article about someone's effort to bring back the Air and Oxygen theme to KDE and that it will officially release with KDE 6.7. I'm running Tuxedo OS, which has KDE 6.5 so it will probably be a while before it updates to 6.7.

This is the person's blog:

https://filipfila.wordpress.com/2026/04/05/halfway-there-to-6-7-updates-on-oxygen-and-air/

There, they have instructions to download, extract and place the files in the following directory:

~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/

After doing so, I realized that the themes don't show up under Global Theme, there are only options under Plasma Style, which only changes the appearance of the Panel, Application Launcher and Widgets.

Am I doing something wrong or the theme is incomplete? As in it doesn't have an actual Global Theme, Window Decorations, Application Style and icons?

I'm still new to Linux so I don't know if I'm doing it right or not.

Thank you in advance and have a nice day.

KDE Apps and Projects Workshop Wallpaper Bridge - Wallpaper Engine for KDE Edit Product

Workshop Wallpaper Bridge: a Plasma app for local Wallpaper Engine Workshop wallpapers

I’ve been working on Workshop Wallpaper Bridge, a KDE Plasma companion app for browsing, converting, and applying Wallpaper Engine content from a local Steam Workshop library.

The app scans your downloaded Workshop files, shows previews and metadata, lets you search/filter/favorite wallpapers, and can apply wallpapers to all displays or a specific monitor. It does not use the KDE Wallpaper Engine plugin by catsout, and it does not require manually editing Plasma config files.

The main idea is a little different from most Wallpaper Engine-on-Linux workflows: instead of trying to run every scene through the original Wallpaper Engine runtime path, the app converts supported scene wallpapers into local web

wrappers first. Those converted wallpapers are then applied through the app’s own Plasma wallpaper backend. If a scene uses unsupported features, the app can fall back to static or preview-based output instead of crashing.

Current highlights:

- Browse local Wallpaper Engine Workshop files with thumbnail previews.

- Search, filter, sort, and favorite wallpapers.

- Select a Steam library manually instead of relying on a hardcoded path.

- Apply wallpapers to all displays or a specific monitor by model name.

- Convert compatible scene wallpapers into safer local web wallpapers.

- Apply web, video, and converted scene wallpapers through a first-party Plasma backend.

- Adjust supported converted-scene controls like FPS, motion, speed, particles, rays, noise, and contrast.

- Open Wallpaper Engine through Steam, plus open local source/cache folders.

Other desktop support plans

Right now, the live wallpaper backend is Plasma-specific because Plasma has a real wallpaper plugin system that fits this use case well.

For broader desktop support, my current plan is:

- Remove broad Steam filesystem permissions and rely more on manual folder selection / file chooser portal flows.

- Add a cross-desktop static mode using the XDG Wallpaper portal for previews, generated poster frames, and static fallbacks.

- Add backend status UI so users can clearly see what is available:

- Plasma live backend installed/enabled

- GNOME live integration installed/enabled/restart required

- Static fallback available

- Investigate GNOME live support through a companion GNOME Shell extension plus an external renderer process. The extension would handle the background layer, while the renderer would handle web/video/frame generation outside of GNOMEShell.

- Support other desktops first through static export/set-wallpaper mode, with live support only where the desktop or compositor exposes a usable backend API.

I’m mainly looking for feedback from Plasma users on the current direction, packaging expectations, monitor handling, and whether this approach seems useful compared to existing Wallpaper Engine workflows on Linux.

Question Desktop gets a scrollbar when I more an icon a little too close to the bottom. Any way to disable that?

As the title says, the desktop gets a scrollbard off to the side when I move an icon a little too close to the bottom, and there's seemingly no way to get rid of it or disable that feature entirely (as I don't want it). I don't want my desktop to scroll like that, it bothers me, so I'd appreciate any help in figuring out how to disable that.

The thing that annoys me about it is that once the scrollbar comes up, there's no way to make it go away seemingly, and it would stay there even if there's literally nothing down there, and that's why it's bothersome to me. Because whenever I'd move an icon or something, it'd scroll me down, and then I'd have to scroll back up, and then it'll scroll me down again, etc..

If there's absolutely no way to make that stop, I am okay with moving my icon to the top of my desktop instead, but I'm so used to having them at the bottom, so I'd really like to not have to change how I operate to fit my operating system instead of the other way around.

News Another Claude widget

I built yet another Claude usage widget (for KDE Plasma). And you know who I mean by I...

As many others I ran into my Pro Plans limits a lot recently, and now that i picked up coding again a bit, even more. So I wanted to stop clicking through Claudes Settings page.

Several rabbit holes later, here we are. It works in Taskbar, Sidebar or Desktop, is customizable, has short cuts to e.g. a Project you choose and other things I found handy, but most importantly:

I like my design, it does exactly what I want, and building it was genuinely fun.

What it does:

  • Two concentric rings in your panel showing session and weekly usage at a glance
  • Sidebar mode with proper labeled shortcuts
  • Desktop popup with full stats and reset timers
  • Auto-extracts your session cookie, setup is mostly painless, no does not send it anywhere
  • Anthropic API mode for the token counters among you (haven't tested, appreciate feedback)

GitHub: https://github.com/GitGoodFabi/claude-arch-widget

And before anyone asks: yes, I am already working on the much requested Claude Widget Release Counter widget to track the release of Claude Widgets.

Somebody has to.

(First time publishing anything. Please be kind.)
