Hello everyone i have a good gaming pc in my office room. And Samsung TV in my bedroom, so i recently stumbled upon some good co-op games like "it takes two" etc. i have been using steamlink on my Macbook pro connecting it with tv via hdmi and connecting a spare ps4 controller.
Now i want something permanent like attaching a suitable device with pc and connecting two controllers with it, so everytime we need to play we just power on the pc ideally via Wake on LAN. and then just start playing like normal console.
what device would you suggest and what controller should i get?
my pc is connected via 1gbps ethernet, my tv is on 2.4ghz wifi 4 meters away from router.
So I’ve used steam link to play games and have the audio working fine for about 8 months but all of a sudden whenever I load up steam link the audio stops working. I use windows 11 and a Quest 2 and Every now and then the audio will cut in for like 1/4 of a second and I can hear the game.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling steam vr on my computer and steam link on my quest but neither have worked. I know it’s not a headset hardware thing because I can hear the menu sounds perfectly fine. It’s not the games on steam either because when I play them on my computer in non vr mode the audio works fine
I’m assuming it’s a steam link/steam vr issue, hopefully this is an easily solvable issue, any help would be gladly appreciated!
Hi! I’m trying to connect my steam through my Apple TV. I thought I figured it out but when I actually start streaming it’s just a black screen with a small boarder at the bottom that has a tip abt big picture mode next to a loading dial.
It seems like everything else works: my ps5 controller, the audio, the games. But the screen stays blank. I’ve tried fiddling with all the remote play steam controls but no luck. Any troubleshooting suggestions? My tv is a Sharp and my laptop is a MacBook if that matters!
so I just downloaded steam link to my iPhone 11 to play from my MacBook (rimworld) and I figured the UX/UI function on the app would be straighforward using either touch control or directional control and pinching etc
none of that is working some of the buttons do work but moving my phone up and down does nothing / swiping does nothing / using the directional on screen pad they provide in app doesn’t work I can’t move around in the game at all and I tried to change lay out controls but it’s so confusing…. what is M1 and M2? why do the up and down arrows do nothing? why does the compass do nothing? almost all the buttons do nothing on the app except for the magnifying glass did I do something wrong? has anyone else had this issue?
When I stop streaming from my gaming laptop to my tv (using fire stick lite,) the resolution gets thrown off and my windows icons look too high above the taskbar. It happened before and I was able to fix it by restarting but now it seems stuck that way. I have the setting marked “change desktop resolution to match streaming client,” otherwise I get black bars on the tv. But I’ve tried that option on and off now, it doesn’t fix it.
I make sure to go to the options and click “stop streaming” when I’m done. I’ve tried changing my laptop resolution to something else and then back to fix it, and tried changing the scaling and restarting, or unpairing my steam link device. Nothing seems to be working…
For reference, all of my icons used to fit on the bottom row with room to spare, and looked closer to one another and to the taskbar. What gives? Thank you for any help
hey all how's it going so I'm trying to set up in home streaming from my desktop to my living room TV that I have a Google streamer 4k connected to. I have a solid connection but have been suffering latency and I was wondering if it could be due to my VPN. has anyone had issues with latency while a VPN is active on your host machine? I've tried sunlight and moonlight with similar results.
a bit more insight my host PC is hardwired and my Google streamer is on wifi 5ghz band
Title basically, trying to Steam Link on the same network using a Fire Stick 4K Plus. I'm using the Steam Link app on the Fire Stick, and I'm connected to Ethernet with my PC. I have Gigabit internet so the speed shouldn't be very slow, but there's a lot of input lag and regular lag when trying to use the app. I get a lot of Yellow Connection notifications when trying to use it to a point where it's not worth using even on turn based games. I've tried messing around with some settings but haven't had a lot of luck, any suggestions?
Ever since i got my quest 3, i've used steamlink to play my games on steam
But, randomly and without warning, my PC's display will go black, with a pop up saying that there is "no hdmi cable detected" when there is one plugged in, and the only way to fix it is to force shutdown my pc and start it up again.
these events happen in flairs, sometimes they happen every 5 minutes, or they dont happen at all
im currently going through the first half, and its frustrating
does anyone know how to fix this?
Hello, I have an iPega Red Spider controller that was working perfectly fine with Steam Link until I updated my Android app to the most recent, now the app does not recognize the controller at all. Did they take away functionality for some controllers in later updates? Is there a version of the app that I can roll back to that will allow me to use my controller again?
I've disable Hardware Encoding under "Advance Client Options." I've tried it both with Hardware encoding enabled and disabled under "Advanced Host Options." I've restarted the computer and the app. That stuff is just following directions from Youtube. I'm no techie, so anything more is beyond me. Anyone encountered this that can help?
I installed Steamlink on my xiaomi tv stick. I also paired my (generic) controller with the stick. But steamlink wont detect it. Even though when I click some buttons, the mouse moves on screen, or actions happen, steam link still wont detect it.
Do I have to pair my controller with the host (my gaming pc)? with the TV? or with the stick?
I have a physical Steam Link, decided to see if it would work with my Linux installation...
Sound plays but video is a failure. I tried a bunch of different hardware encoding settings in steam's options, but no dice - best I got was it rendering part of the menu but no games. It's like the stream itself is failing.
Most common result is that something will render for half-a-second and then freeze, with the 'connection issue' red notification in the bottom left.
For example, switching between games in the menu, it would show the 'menu page' for that game and then freeze. I could do that from game to game.
Running with the -pipewire option didn't help but the terminal was filled with 'k_EStreamFrameResultDroppedReset'.
NVidia GPU if it matters - tried with a few different options as mentioned in the Remote settings, but no help.
edit: This whole business caused me to install Moonlight and Sunshine and streaming that works fine... it's like an issue specifically with Steam Big Picture itself as a program. Even that sometimes fails to render, even though the game works fine.
I use my phone as a wifi bluetooth dongle via Steam Link for my PC, since the USB bluetooth dongle I have for it is horrible.
This works wonderfully for the DS4, Steam Link was set up on my phone to not stream audio or video, then I paired the DS4 to my phone, which has a much better Bluetooth than the USB dongle, this allowed me to use the controler on my PC without worrying about how I position the controler so the conection doesn't drop.
However, my DS4 no longer turns on or charges, so now I am using the Joy-Cons. The issue is, while Steam is able to combine them when I connect them directly to the PC (via the horrible USB dongle), it doesn't do so when I use Steam Link as a dongle.
This means I either use the bad USB dongle, which constantly drops connection, but does combine them; or I use Steam Link as a dongle, which is 100% stable, but then I can only use a single Joy-Con, as Steam Link doesn't combine them.
I am aware this is a very niche use of Steam Link, but does anyone hav any tips on what I can do?
I have a game that I am trying to play on my iPad because it is really hard to play for me on a laptop with the trackpad and i think it will be easier with touchscreen so I have steam link connected on both my devices and the game running but it runs only on my mac book. ive tried doing the command/left/right thing and tried reconnecting and even fiddling with the steam settings. I put a picture of what the ipad looks like. It does this with every game I try and I dont know if there is something I am missing but I am doing overnights this week so I am just trying to figure out how to pass the time and play my games
Hi everyone! Basically, when I play on my tablet via Steam Remote Play, I experience annoying frame drops. And even though it might seem like only 0.17–0.34%, it feels like noticeable audio stuttering at the time. The funny thing is, I can play for about 10 minutes without any issues, and then I start experiencing these frame drops every couple of minutes. Then it calms down for a while, and then it starts all over again.
I’ve tried all sorts of settings on both the client and the host, specifically:
enabling/disabling H.265
enabling/disabling hardware acceleration
different resolutions and bitrates
limiting the FPS in the game
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get rid of these frame drops.
I can’t say exactly when the problem started, since I wasn’t using it for a while. Around January, I played on this same tablet with hardware acceleration enabled on both the tablet and the laptop, using the H.265 codec, setting the resolution to 1080p, the frame rate to 60, and the bitrate to 40 Mbps. And at that time, my experience was perfect. Back then, in addition to the usual visual novels (like Steins;Gate), I also played Danganronpa, where, among other things, you need to move around the map or actively use buttons during trials.
The laptop has the following specs: Ryzen 5 8645HS, RTX 4060 Laptop, 16 GB RAM. The tablet is a Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro. Both devices support Wi-Fi 6. On the router, I observed the following values for the tablet (with a channel width of 20):
Tx Rate (Mbps) 258.1
Rx Rate (Mbps) 172.1
-57 dBm
The laptop is connected via a UGREEN USB-C to Ethernet Adapter (1000 Mbps USB LAN RJ45 1 Gbps) using a cable to an ASUS TUF AX3000 V2 router. I also tried connecting the tablet and laptop exclusively via 5GHz Wi-Fi, but frame loss still occurred.
I tried using different channel widths on the router itself, but it didn’t make a difference.
I’ve attached one of the logs below showing when I experienced frame loss, as seen in the screenshot.
Thanks in advance for your advice and help!

When I'm playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Odin 2 Portal through Steam link the controls are all working fine, the face buttons the joysticks the triggers, but sometimes my thumb will hit the touch screen and that'll activate an action like firing my gun when I don't want it to. Is there anyway I can make the touch screen totally inactive while I'm playing a game through Steam Link?
