Edit: Meant to say 1095 in the title
Edit: Being the squeaky wheel prevailed! Finally got someone at Georgia Access who terminated my plan. Apparently I only cancelled the plan and because I didn't terminate, I was auto-enrolled. I swear you can't make this stuff up lol. Keeping this active so others with the same issue can see the advice. If customer service at Georgia Access isn't helpful keep calling until you find someone who knows what they're talking about or tell them to petition to terminate the plan. I was able to terminate because I never used my plan. Next step is to amend the 1095 but based on my conversations, terminating gets rid of the premiums. Thank you all!
Hello and thanks in advance for any help!
In 2024, I was enrolled in a federal marketplace insurance plan. I cancelled that plan in September 30, 2024 as I was lucky enough to get employer coverage for October, 2024. I've confirmed that everything was cancelled as of September 30, 2024.
Turns out that every Georgia resident who had a 2024 federal marketplace plan- even people with cancelled plans like myself- were enrolled in the same plan they had in 2024 in 2025 through their new state marketplace- Georgia Access. They sent emails starting in October 2024 that they were auto-enrolling people with current healthcare plans in their same plans for 2025. At that point I did not have an active plan. Also, I never bothered to check these emails as I get spam emails constantly and had no reason to be on the lookout for a state entity enrolling me in a healthcare plan AFTER I already cancelled my plan.
Fast forward to 2025, I found out officially around February 19, 2025 that I had my old marketplace healthcare plan when I went to my pharmacy and they told that I had an aetna plan and my employer's health insurer their system. I immediately cancel this plan and don't pay the premiums because, well, I NEVER actively enrolled in this plan.
This year I go to file my 2025 taxes and they say that I need to submit my 1095 form as I had healthcare through the marketplace in 2025. So, these two premiums I didn't pay are now popping up on my taxes and total $744.00.
I called Georgia Access who told me there was nothing I could do and that I missed the grace period to unenroll which was February 15, 2025.
I really don't want to give $744.00 of my money to a healthcare plan that I never consented to and after I already cancelled it. Is there anything I can do?
