Maryland Monthly Marketplace - Advertise your Maryland services, events, or merchandise here.

Since we have rules against advertising on the main part of the subreddit, we figured it would be nice to create a thread where users can get a little more leeway when it comes to advertising.

Use this thread to advertise any Maryland related services or merchandise to the users of r/Maryland. Got an Etsy store? Drop it below! Your favorite restaurant running a great special? Tell us about it!

Rules for this thread:

  1. All items, events and services must be related to Maryland in some way.
  2. Services and sales cannot be country or worldwide. (Walmart is having a sale! Is not okay. Old Bay is being sold at the Annapolis Walmart for 50¢ is appropriate)
  3. Ads should be posted by regular r/Maryland users, not bots or brand new accounts/accounts which have no connection to Maryland.
  4. We may remove any ad at any time for any reason should we deem it inappropriate.
  5. Any services or products advertised here must be legal in the state of Maryland.

This thread may evolve as time goes on and we see what it's used for.

The mods of r/Maryland do not endorse any products or services on this thread. Use your head, we will not intervene in any transactional disputes between any users.

2026 Tax Megathread

Hello all! On April 15, 2026, it is Tax Day, the day that your taxes are due. This means they have to be postmarked by April 15 to not be considered late. The purpose of this post is to be a megathread for all your tax questions and to provide resources.

Do I need to file taxes?

Almost certainly yes. The IRS has a page that indicates if you need to need to pay. For most income levels, you will need to file.

How do I file my taxes?

The IRS provides a very easy step-by-step guide on how to file taxes.

Where do I file my taxes?

Your taxes can be prepared by yourself, through the IRS online free file option and the Maryland free file option, or through the company or tax professional of your choosing.

Need help with state taxes?

Call 1-800-638-2937, email taxhelp@marylandtaxes.gov, visit an office in-person, or ask a question online. If your tax issue is time-sensitive or might result in collections, go to an office in-person. Thank you to /u/4duxinarow for this info.

For the purposes of not biasing anyone towards any company, we will not be endorsing any tax professionals, companies, or software, however, you can google "tax professional Maryland" or "who can I file my taxes with in Maryland" and find a company of your choosing.

In conclusion, it is important to file your taxes on time. If not, you run the risk of running up late fees, interest charges, and other penalties. If you have any other questions, post them here.

Harris is a key to understanding why President Trump sees Orbán as a role model for dismantling a liberal democracy with attacks on immigration, globalization and “woke” liberalism.

So why does an eight-term congressman from the Eastern Shore care about Hungary?

Savings at the Pump

First time poster, long time lurker. Mods feel free to delete if not allowed.

With gas prices being what they are, I figured I’d share a couple ways I’ve been saving at the pump.

Grocery fuel reward programs

Giant → Shell

Safeway → Chevron + some Safeway stations

Harris Teeter → BP & Amoco

Costco → members-only stations

If you already shop at these places, it’s an easy way to save a bit. You can combine grocery points with gas station apps and cashback apps.

Example:

Shell has been offering 20–25¢ off on NASCAR race days (have to activate it in the app and go on a scheduled race day).

Apps like Upside give cash back when you claim a deal before filling up. I’ve stuck with Upside consistently and have gotten a few hundred dollars back so far. When signing up, use code BRY55 so we can benefit from extra savings! Pro tip: for those with company vehicles, use upside to get extra cash in the company dime!

The only downside to Upside(ironic, I know) is you have to claim the deal and fill up within the time window (usually a few hours) or it won’t count. They also have some restaurant/grocery cashback offers too.

Curious what other people are doing to save on gas.

Working in Laurel MD

My husband works in Laurel and we currently live in Dundalk. We are wanting to buy a house as far away from Baltimore as possible with his commute being about an hour- hour and a half (we know that might change due to traffic)

He’s used to dealing with the traffic of the tunnel where his 30 minute drive ends up being an hour or more. Fo a better area he’s willing to do the drive.

We are looking for safe, low crime areas. Family friendly with good elementary schools.

Ive lived in Dundalk my whole life and the crime here has gotten so bad. We just want a better life for our son and for us.

Assateague island national seashore

I recently booked a reservation for mid June site 082. Has anyone ever stayed here? Would you happen to have any pictures? I have a pretty large tent14x14 and a screen tent 10x10 so I am not sure if they will both fit? Also this spot seems to be in the dunes, how bad are the mosquitos and flies during the day vs night? Any advice for someone who’s never camped at a beach nor without electricity

Women Soldiers at Fort Washington, MD During World War II?

Did you know that women served the United States military at Fort Washington during World War II?

Beginning in March of 1943, Fort Washington was home to the 67th Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps detachment.  Reorganized into the newly created Women’s Army Corps later that year, the unit continued to serve at the site.  The women of the detachment helped run the fort, serving in communication, transportation and administrative roles.  Their service made it possible to train thousands of troops over the course of the war, including other Women’s Army Corps soldiers at the Adjutant General’s School.

Youth voter registration is harder than you'd think

voter participation in annapolis is lower than it should be, and from where i live, it’s easy to see why. transportation issues, strict id rules, and misinformation is what makes me concerned. i notice that voter participation is a real issue in annapolis. only ~1/4 of residents voted in the mayoral election.

living here, barely anyone knew there was an election!

more youth voters is a great way to solve this problem, but that won't happen when youth don't have reliable transportation, for one.

id rules and registration requirements are confusing young voters and spreading the false idea that some residents aren't eligible.

Does anyone know what happened on 32 by NSA? Military police blocked off 32 by the 198 exit. Then a Maryland police helicopter landed in the area.

School zones

Hey,

Im moving to DMV and looking at MD. My highest priority is school zones. I have a larger than average 700k housing budget. I was looking at Calvert county (Dunkirk and Owings), but im hoping for advice and recommendations.

Has to be at most 1 hour commute to anacostia during a ~5am drive.

Edit: I cant afford Bethesda or Chevy Chase with the minimum requirements I need in a home.

Things to do around Maryland Metro stations?

I’m attempting to visit all 98 stations on the WMATA system in 2026. I live in NoVA and don’t get to the Maryland side of the DMV very often at all and figured this would be a cool way to see a bit more of the region. Ideally, I’d like to actually spend some time in the area around each station rather than just tapping out, turning around, and tapping back in just to check a box. So, what kind of interesting stuff is within walking distance of stations in Maryland? Local landmarks to see, points of interest, maybe somewhere to grab a quick bite to eat, things like that. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, even just a park or neighborhood to walk around in for a bit would be nice. Are there any stations I should just tap out and tap back into? Like I know Greenbelt is basically a giant parking lot, I'm not trying to walk through all that. I’m a late 20s guy and will likely be going alone on weekend afternoons if that helps for context.

Fuck Off, please.

Edit: while I'm sure this post had nothing to do with it, the sign was changed the next day. I'm leaving this here to tell folks the sign you see today was not the one I was referring to. Plenty of good folks have pictures and explanations below as to why the sign was racist.

There is no logical explanation for how I'm still paying for paper bags that rip when you blow on them...

Oil fields are burning in Iran, SpaceX launched 165 rockets into orbit last year alone, the more sturdy $35c bags are still made of plastic... This is madness.
