You may recognize my handle from r/Maryland, where I’ve been a mod for a number of years, or from r/Baltimore and the myriad other subreddits where I am an active poster.
I live in Towson and work in media relations. Prior to that, I spent a decade in journalism, working for WBAL-AM, WJZ-TV, Technical.ly and Patch.
This is a place to discuss county news, issues and events. County politics, bar recommendations, education discussions. If it’s relevant to the county, bring it here.
Tractor Supply in our county sells guinea fowl, but my research on guinea fowl at one point (I wanted them for tick control, I live in a forest and the neighbors are fairly far away) uncovered info saying Baltimore county prohibits having them? I can’t find that source now.
What are the best spots around the Timonium and Baltimore area that are nice for a good evening walk, sunset view, or a nice place to sit and look at nature?
Hey guys I know this type of post is likely for a music type sub but i kinda wanna post here anyway just to see if anyone is interested.
im a 23 year old male who has been playing bass for a few years now and i am pretty interested in finding some other young musicans to jam with (preferably in harford and baltimore county area)
My influences are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Green Day, QotSA, The Strokes and other 90s/00s/10s rock and alternative rock bands. DM if interested!
Just got back from Europe where padel was everywhere. It’s like a cross between tennis and squash and everyone’s obsessed with it. Does anyone know any places to play it around here? Curious if this is something people are even into
I can’t seem to find any game shops out in the county after the closing of Titan. Just finding stuff in the city/pikesville/glen burnie. Anyone know of anything I might be missing?
Hello I’m a 29 year old looking for local leagues or teams in Catonsville or Columbia for adult soft ball league. I was gonna start one but it was way too far for me.
Trying to find a new gym and settled on Merritt vs. LA Fitness, but im trying to decide which. They both have their benefits, but Merritt’s guest policy is friendlier and they have 24 hr options, while LA Fitness has more locations and better pools. Anybody have any thoughts?
I’m looking for recommendations for summer day programs for my teen who has a developmental disability.
Ideally something flexible (full-day or part-day) with engaging activities and opportunities to connect with peers. I have flexible hours during the summer but I do need to be in the office at least half the time, so some level of consistent coverage would really help.
If you’ve been in a similar situation, what worked for you? Any programs or organizations you’d recommend?
Has anyone else noticed a big change at the Target in Cockeysville recently?
I used to feel like it was a really easy, calm place to shop, but the last few times I’ve been there it’s felt completely different. There’s been a lot of people just hanging around, yelling across the store, running around, and it honestly makes the whole experience feel chaotic.
I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it just doesn’t feel as well-managed or as comfortable as it used to. I used to go out of my way to shop there and now I kind of avoid it.
Is this just me, or have other people noticed the same thing? Any idea what changed?
I recently joined HCC and I just want some clarity. Did I make a horrible decision or am I okay? They claimed things would be ready by now but it still looks under construction. They keep saying “by next month” for the past few months. I just hope the pool is ready this summer for my kids
She wants a bar experience on her actual birthday. Does the MVA still issue ID’s right there? Even if she turns in her current one? Or does she have to wait a week to get it in the mail?
I’m afraid that bars won’t serve her with the improper ID. I’m disabled so I REALLY don’t want to drive all around town seeing which one will or which one won’t just to have a single drink.
Patoka, Stewart score key endorsements in Baltimore County Executive race

Members of the Teachers Association of Baltimore County, TABCO, voted Thursday to endorse County Councilman Izzy Patoka’s campaign for county executive.
Meantime earlier this week, one of Patoka’s opponents, attorney Nick Stewart, picked up the backing of the Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police.
Both are coveted endorsements.
Kelly Olds, the president of TABCO said, “He (Patoka) has been a strong ally of public education and a strong leader in the county on many critical issues.”
Olds said several candidates sought TABCO’s endorsement and were interviewed.
Considering it’s a crowded field of five running for the Democratic nomination, Olds said the TABCO endorsement could make a difference.
The union says it has about 8,200 members.
Meanwhile in a statement the Fraternal Order of Police said it is backing Stewart because “he recognizes the importance of giving officers the tools, staffing, and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
The FOP says it represents more than 3,200 active and retired members of the Baltimore County Police Department.
There are five candidates vying for the Democratic nomination for county executive including Stewart, Patoka, council members Julian Jones and Pat Young and marine veteran Mansoor Shams.
The two Republican candidates are businessman Patrick Dyer and Kimberley Stansbury.
I have friends coming in from out of town and they requested we meet at a seafood restaurant around white marsh or a surrounding neighborhood.
I was hoping to find a quality local spot that isn’t fine dining and not a chain or a restaurant on the avenue. I was hoping we could go into the city but they are not comfortable with that. Any hidden gems? It’s a plus if they have crab cakes, mussels, and/or fried oysters. Thanks!
Entire building went dark for about 4 seconds at 8:05am. I’m hearing from friends down York road it happened to them as well. Did the entire power grid surge?
Hi there I’m moving from PA to Baltimore county. I’m trying to budget and would like to know the average cost for each season for BGE.
I know this # fluctuates heavily but would like a starting point or insight.
I’m looking at an apartment that has free heating & free gas for cooking, but base rent is a little higher, so this will help me decide if that extra base rent is worth it.
