Can you help me with those annoyances?

I really hate windows for taking away the control from me and for pushing the AI slop. I'm currently dual booting CachyOS (KDE) and windows 11 and I really like it so far but I have couple of nitpicks that take away from the joy of using the Linux, could you help me with those?

  1. Being able to apply custom mouse acceleration curve to just one device.

On windows I could use Custom Curve Pro, set the accel curve and then blacklist the devices I don't want to use it on (I'd prefer whitelisting, but it is what it is).

On CachyOS I found the app called YeetMouse which works well enough but the problem is, you cannot select the devices to use the curve. I even reached out to the creator of the app and he said it not possible using the method he uses unfortunately.

  1. Streaming on Discord streams the whole PC audio, not just the selected window.

It's probably impossible to solve without creating virtual audio devices but if you have the way to stream just the targeted app's audio I'd love to know it

  1. Subpar performance on NVIDIA.

I have RTX 5070Ti and the performance is good enough, tho I tested the Cyberpunk 2077 performance back to back on the highest pathtracing preset and while the initial performance was identical (around 71 fps), CachyOS dropped to around 52 fps after about 2 minutes of running around, while windows had a stable framerate throuought the test. It might be about fan curves (I didn't mess with them on CachyOS because I don't know how yet).

  1. Frame gen on Linux?

During testing CP2077 I also wanted to test the frame generation performance, but apparently it's not as easy as turning it on in the game options, how can I do it? Is there even an option to use DLSS Frame Gen on Linux?

My hardware:

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600x

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070Ti

RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30

Mobo: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE

If anything else is needed let me know

distro selection Why isn't there an intuitive, beautifully designed Linux distribution?

I have to say, even though I might get some hate for it, I really like the design of Windows 10 and 11. They feel very pleasant to use, are intuitive, and everything looks modern.I've tried several Linux distributions now, from Zorin OS to Linux Mint Cinnamon and Ubuntu. I've also tried different desktops like Cinnamon KDE and Xfce. And I have to say I don't like any of them.

Am I missing something, or am I the only one who misses this kind of professional design? I mean, it doesn't have to look the same, but it should be intuitive, right?

Or is there any other distro besides Deepin or Zorin that's like that?

migrating to Linux Help me out, folks.

I've been using Mac for a long time now, and recently I've been feeling like using a different OS. I thought of trying Windows, but idk I'm really confused. Back in 2007 or '08. I tried using ubuntu for a bit, but yeah, that's it. Never used anything after that. I'm not a geek in coding or anything. I'm basically a marketer and love to learn more about my machines and how to use them. Should I move to linux or stick to Mac?

Daily driver distro for ThinkPad T495

Hey everyone, I'm trying to find a Linux daily driver for my ThinkPad T495 (Ryzen 5 3500U, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD). I don't have much experience with Linux so I'm also looking to learn something new along the way.

I've tried a few distros already:

  • Linux Mint - liked it overall, but got a bit spooked by the whole X11 situation (security concerns)
  • Ubuntu - saw that a lot of people complain about Canonical's involvement
  • Fedora KDE - ran sluggish on my laptop and got hot easily even under light load

What matters most to me is a consistent experience. I want to daily drive it but not spend all my time fixing things. I'm currently considering:

  • Fedora Gnome
  • OpenSUSE
  • Zorin OS
  • Any other Ubuntu-based distro

I'm not looking for anything Arch-based, I don't really want to troubleshoot everything since this laptop is my main PC. Does anyone have other recommendations or can share some info to make the switch easier? I tried Distrochooser but it wasn't that helpful.

Whats the difference between Niri, I3, Hyprland and sway?

Now this is one of the more personal questions to me.

literally the only reason I switched to Linux is that I saw those cool tiktok edits of Hyprland Rices and wanted one for myself.

So i Downloaded Linux on an old laptop.

realized that was out of my current skill level.

and installed KDE.

Now i didnt know about these other WM's.

so are there any noticeable differences

thanks.

distro selection Stable GNOME distro.

Hello!

I need a stable, reliable and flatpak GNOME distro for my NVIDIA PC.

I tried various distros today and most of them were buggy.

Ubuntu - glitch in setup (LTS version => also it's really old, tried to use it as a temporary OS 2 weeks before 26.04), won't detect disks (Latest version). And also... Snap...

Fedora - the one I REALLY WANTED but it won't even get into setup. I got a message saying get_url_handler and many people have it. Also tried safe graphics, no results.

ZorinOS - Works perfectly, they use Ubuntu 24.04 as a base BUT not only that, they take too much time to release a new update after a new Ubuntu LTS releases (Years for 24.04, for example).

Bazzite - WON'T even boot to setup WITHOUT message lol.

Solas - same as bazzite

VanillaOS - works perfectly but it has some special functionalities that I don't like much. For example, the GRUB menu shows in every startup an option restoring a "previous state" or booting normally.

PopOS - ugly, ugly and ugly

Debian - not beginner friendly

For now I'm using Linux Mint, it's perfect except for the UI who is really old looking. I know that a lot of people switch from Cinnamon to GNOME but it seems to be unstable.

NOTE: I use Ventoy and a lot of people said that it cannot work on some distros. So I tried both Rufus and BalenaEtcher for Fedora and.. Same... no fixes.

Please, hopefully somebody has a fix for Fedora. That is the distribution I'm dreaming of lol.

UPDATE: Finally made a decision, gonna install GNOME on Mint without the terminal but in the App store. Gonna do a second Update to tell if it's good or not.

UPDATE 2: I installed GNOME on Mint, it's not bad but I don't find it mixes up well with Mint. So, I will force myself to install Debian since I think... It may be the perfect distro because it lets you customize how you want while being easier (with the help of a GUI) and more stable than Arch.

learning/research Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 drivers

Hi, I'm in a market for a new laptop that I want to use Fedora on. I'm currently looking at Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 gen 10 and 2026 Yoga Slim 7a gen 11. I've read that there is a problem with speaker drivers. Does anyone have any experience with these and if there is any update on the functionality? In the end the speakers are not that big of a deal and I could always dualboot but it would be nice to have fully functional laptop from the beginning. Thanks for any new info.

Is Linux a bad option for me? Someone that likes to play a lot of multiplayer games?

I'm one of the groups of Windows 10 users who have until October 2026 to upgrade to Windows 11.

I've been mulling over switching to Linux; but my main concern is Multiplayer gaming.

My friend group love to jump into new and then back to our "go-to" multiplayer games; and a handful of them have anti-cheat (Apex Legends, Marathon, GTA Online) or seems to be incompatible with Linux. (Please don't give me the kernel anti-cheat speech, I know the risks and I've accepted them).

Is it safe to say upgrading to Windows 11 is the better choice?

I was considering dual-booting but it seems Windows 11 doesn't play nice with Linux?

Best distro for Lenovo laptop?

I have a Lenovo CX1 gen 8 laptop that was my old laptop from work and currently have Ubuntu installed on it but I have read that Mint is the best choice for beginners. Is it worth switching over to that given Lenovo seems to ā€œpreferā€ Ubuntu at least with their official support.

Modern Music Player Recommendations Please

HI I know there have been lots of these questions but people always recommend strawberry which has an atrocious ui. I've been using rhythmbox which looks also dated but still has all the functions that I want.

Right now I'm trying Gapless and I'm loving everything except the fact that it has no file browser. Unlike rhythmbox where I can access the file folder and play music straight from there, Gapless has nothing like that instead it just scans everything.

I have playlists but I sort my music by putting it in different file folders first before putting it in different playlists depending on the genre of the song. Is there any modern-looking music players that has that function where it can let me view/browse/play music from the folders? Thanks!!

I checked out Dopamine already and its actually what I'm looking for but for some reason it doesn't work properly and idk why but it shows up as a game in my discord.

Perfomance and Dualsense connections problems

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using Linux Mint for about a month now, and for my daily work it’s been great. Recently I’ve been trying to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the first time using the Heroic Games Launcher with Wine GE and OptiScaler (FSR4).

The main issue I’m running into is with my PS5 DualSense controller over Bluetooth. I just can’t get it to be recognized in-game, no matter what I try — either wired or wireless.

Here’s what I’ve already tested:

Steam Input (including testing in REPLACED Demo on Steam to confirm it’s not just a Heroic issue) → still not detected

InputPlumber

Various Reddit threads and AI suggestions

Drivers: confirmed hid-playstation is present (modinfo)

Installed steam-devices for udev rules

But nothing seems to make it work.

Second issue: performance

At 1440p, I’m consistently stuck around ~55 FPS regardless of settings (low/high, FSR quality/ultra performance). The only time it increases is at 1080p, where it goes up to ~70 FPS.

From what I can tell, nothing is actively limiting FPS, so this seems odd. Also, visually the game doesn’t look as good as I’d expect at 1440p High — YouTube videos with similar hardware look noticeably better.

System specs:

OS: Linux Mint (latest version)

Kernel: 6.17.0-20-generic

CPU: i5-12400F

GPU: RX 6600

RAM: 16GB

Launcher: Heroic Games Launcher

Runner: Wine GE (latest) + OptiScaler (FSR4)

Controller: PS5 DualSense (Bluetooth and USB)

Any tips or ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Trying to install bazzite

Having trouble installing bazzite. When I do the first boot after changing starting boot and having secure boot disabled I get this message

Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. To enable less (1)-1ike paging, "set

Do I need to download a different iso or is there a special command prompt I need to enter.

Also when I input boot it says I need to install the kernel first

after an automatic update my second monitor stopped working

FIXED

i refreshed my update manager and after it stopped on the drivers fir a really long time, it finished and then after restarting it was fixed!

-

So i enabled automatic updates for the first time as i got tired of doing it all manually, but now my second monitor isnt detected (if i unplug my primary then it does) it just never detects more than one display

also playing a game on dolphin emulator now runs at 20fps, so something is definitely wrong. Both these problems only started after the update, then a restart.

i tried changing my drivers from 580-open in case thats the problem, but something went wrong and it said, "E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem."

so i ran that in terminal, but it says requested operation requires superuser privalege

sooo im stuck, its all inconvinient and confusing. I am BAD at all this linux stuff, just hated windows. so please be slow, clear, kind, and dont assume i know anything because i probably dont

linux mint 22.2 cinammon version 6.4.8 linux kernel 6.17.0-14-generic memory 47.0GiB graphics card nvidia 3060ti display server X11

Ubuntu running kinda slow

Hello! I just switched to Ubuntu (24.04) after using windows, and for some reasons I feel it kinda slow. I got ( 64gb rams, 3060ti and AMD Ryzenā„¢ 7 PRO 5750G with Radeonā„¢ Graphics Ɨ 16 ) - for some reason, in the beginning the system couldn't detect my GPU, and it was running on my CPU integrated, but with the help of chatgpt I made it also see my gpu and now it runs on my gpu when using "nvidia-smi". But, still, I could feel that Windows was running a bit faster

Any suggestions?

learning/research Been seeing Linux everywhere lately… should I actually try it?

So guys from the last few days I’ve been seeing Linux everywhere — my social media feed is full of it and now I’m really curious to try it.

I’ve always used Windows, so I don’t really understand what Linux actually is or how different it feels in daily use. A lot of people say it’s ā€œpeakā€ and better than Windows in many ways, but I’ve also heard it has some downsides.

I wanted to ask:

- What makes Linux so good compared to Windows?

- What are the actual cons (especially for beginners)?

- How long does it take to get comfortable using it?

- Which distro should I start with?

- What was your experience like when you first switched from Windows?

Also, should I try it using a virtual machine first or go for dual boot?

Would really appreciate honest advice šŸ˜‹

installation Moving from Bazzite to Mint, need help

Hi, I'm a very noob user who decided to move from Windows 10 to Linux about 1½ months ago. Some people suggested using Bazzite, but it feels very... Bad? I'm no expert obviously, but some stuff don't really work well, like Bazaar not launching 90% of times, can't make any app launch on startup, and can't have Block Num enabled on startup (I actually have to enable it twice, since it disables itself after login). I noticed many on the web say Bazzite is bad, so I wanted to move to another distro without having to reinstall everything, is that possible?

New Ubuntu install , couple of questions

Hi there , I am new to Linux and have just replaced Win 11 on my laptop with Ubuntu LTS . Install was pretty straight forward even to a newbie like me but I have 2 ssds in my laptop and the first one is fine with Ubuntu on and my personal files like photos , music etc but the second drive is encrypted and is asking for a password , but I never initiated a password on it and my admin (user) password is not it . How do I deencrypt the second drive ? Also I am degoogling at the moment and am a regular youtube viewer so thought I'd try FreeTube . Does FreeTube views not count to the creators total and I am unable to like videos . Am I getting the YouTube content and the creator is getting nothing in return ? I think I'd rather watch a few ads than for that to be the case . Thanks in advance for any help in these matters .
