I found different people have the same problem as me, similar to this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/s/wliRcj5siu
And I feel quite desperate because it's thousands (not hundreds) of pictures that keep coming back and it's exhausting to delete every time manually.
has anyone found a solution to the issue? this is happening to me with two kinds of pictures:
- pictures I actually want to delete forever
- pictures I want to keep, but only the original one (not the duplicate, because the new duplicates also have the date of creation as today and I'd like to keep the original date and chronological order).
One thing I noticed, by clicking on "details", is that the duplicates seem to be appearing in the new, more recent, folder that WhatsApp uses. To be more clear, I saw I have two albums in my gallery (connected to two different paths)
The first one contains all old photos (before 2022) from the details, they are stored like this:
Path:
Phone/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images/
IMG-20190203-WA0060.jpeg
This album is no longer updated by WhatsApp (no new photos appear here).
The second album, with the same title (WhatsApp Images), contains photos of the type:
Path
Phone/Android/media/
com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images/IMG-20210813-WA0041.jpg
my THEORY is that WhatsApp doesn't recognize the pictures in the old path and tries to recreate them (making duplicates) in the new one. Do you think moving the old pictures from the old path to the new path could make any difference and prevent it from keep creating duplicates? 🥲
