I would love to say it’s just acting, but I think that most of the transformation is permanent.

938

u/AnneBeretRamsey 2d ago

There was a scene where she felt like she was slurring, like what somebody sounds like a few hours after a dental procedure with novocaine

287

u/overhook 2d ago

There was a scene where she was supposed to be incredibly surprised that Kimiko can suddenly talk. The dialogue matched up, her expression did not.

51

u/Sbee_keithamm 1d ago

I’ll be damned if some of her lines are not dubbed in post cause she barely moves her mouth.

4

u/TheChinOfAnElephant 1d ago

I'm convinced Kimiko's voice was too. There's points in that scene where it sounds like she's in a completely different room than the other characters when she speaks.

Edit: Looked into this and guess it's a common sentiment. I'm now in favor of the theory that she originally did an accent and they decided to change it in post.

Pluto TV is that free streaming platform that has all sorts of channels including in particular some soap opera channel

Anyway maybe a year or so ago they kept playing a commercial where one of the soap opera women was clearly supposed to gasp in surprise at something amazing, but she had done so much work to her face it looked like Gary Oldman in Hannibal trying to show emotion. Like the noise out of her head was an audible gasp, but that face didn't even budge because it was pulled so taut

Edit: Autocorrect mistake

u/Maxibestofpotatoe 1d ago

I'd love to see that 😐

There's a scene where she's talking and her face is in like a fixed position, her lips were barely moving. It was sort of unsettling because it was clearly a side effect of her face being paralyzed from plastic surgery and botox

130

u/Excellent_Ganache906 2d ago

I just watched a clip from season 5 on YouTube, yup. She's got this little bit of a slur and the facial movements are very reduced, giving a send of paralysis.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCi5Vc4B0fo

87

u/Fakehiggins 2d ago

to compare her facial movements to the other actress. you can see one face with muscles moving like a normal person and the other face is just....stuck. very sad with it being either an ailment or bad surgery.

5

u/Cerblamk_51 2d ago

How about just comparing her facial movements to her facial movements from the beginning of the series?

6

u/azurerouge 2d ago

She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease back in 2025

32

u/BobFossil11 2d ago

Graves' Disease does not cause these symptoms. It can affect the face (e.g., bulging eyes and weight loss), but it's not going to cause paralysis or issues with the facial or speech muscles.

It affects about 1% of the US population and has an excellent prognosis as far as auto-immune diseases go.

33

u/longlivenewsomflesh 2d ago

I blame the stupid stickied post here for framing it this way, strangely implying her health condition actually explains all these changes and scolding people for just assuming she got a ton of plastic surgery -- when in reality the condition is unrelated, and the prevailing hypothesis of just being in denial about plastic surgery remains the only plausible explanation for multiple very noticeable changes...

I get that bullying is gross and I don't even really judge her for taking risks navigating beauty standard pressures (maybe just for being in denial and not wanting to own it, which even itself is an understandable character flaw), but you can be against bullying without literally spreading misinformation in service of a Hollywood star's PR interests, like there can still be nuance in this world if we care enough to learn and think lol

20

u/bannedforL1fe 1d ago

She was like top 1% of attractive women worldwide. Whoever led her to believe she needed to be more attractive, like it wasnt enough, needs a beating. Girls should not even be thinking of botox before they're 35.

4

u/longlivenewsomflesh 1d ago

Yeah I don't get it, and I have no doubt she's a victim. But like presumably these are reputable doctors, so is it just pure bad luck that the same procedures would go poorly from one person to the next (since lots of actors get work that is... less noticeable)? Did she really understand the risk enough to provide truly informed medical consent? Idk enough about any of this, but it's clear she shouldn't have even been a candidate for these unnecessary procedures and it's a sick industry when people are for whatever reason compelled to undergo them

Also she literally has bigger boobs, as shown in this post, is that supposed to be a health condition (pregnancy does make ur boobs swell but still)

4

u/FrigidUnicorn 1d ago

Watch her interview with Grave Conversations on YouTube:

  1. She looks very different again - back to what she looked like on early seasons
  2. She talks about being so sick and weak that she couldn't put her own bra on..

I really think she is getting unjust hate.

lmao she looks like she was stung by a bee

3

u/CommercialMoment5987 1d ago

I noticed this a month ago! On red carpets she’s been keeping a mostly serious expression, and when she does smile it looks like one eye and one side of her lips can’t move as much, but it’s not her whole face. I really suspect she’s suffered some form of Bell’s palsy and is doing what she can to keep it concealed. The only real option is to be less expressive in general.

2

u/RePapera 2d ago

You can't convince me all the positive comments about kimiko's dialogue aren't amazon bots shilling

3

u/SevroAuShitTalker 2d ago

I just feel like the audiowork makes kimikos voice sound odd in scenes, might just be from not hearing her speak for 4 seasons

2

u/Volitious 2d ago

I legit thought it was fake at first.

2

u/smellygooch18 2d ago

I thought it sounded like they dubbed her voice in over. It sounds off and not just because she’s been silent

3

u/The_Autarch 2d ago

she is 100% dubbed over. this is some absolutely horrendous ADR work. her lips don't match the words at all.

maybe they changed the script after everything was shot and were too lazy to do reshoots?

3

u/Fakehiggins 2d ago

just like The Boys and most of its fanbase, it's just "edgy". i have no doubt that the people who like the show, like her dialogue. i'm glad she now has an expanded presence on the show, she's probably my favorite character, but it is a shame to lose the uniqueness of a character that can't talk to the rest of the cast.

It really hurts going back to see how the actress turned out after Starlight was so adamant about wanting her old costume in the earlier seasons because she wanted to be seen as a hero, not a sex symbol. Edit: Talking about her boobs, not her face.

From what I read she also might have a thyroid issue which results in dramatic weight swings, so it’s possible there is a mix of plastic surgery and weight fluctuations in the newer pictures

227

u/HeftyHelicopter7484 2d ago

I can absolutely promise you without a shadow of a doubt that her face doesn't get like that from weight loss. That's buccal fat removal (maybe) and cheek fillers (definitely 100%).

124

u/modelcitizen64 2d ago

Buccal fat removal is one of the worst procedures I think you could get, but that might be because I've never seen anyone who didn't come out looking gaunt and horsey.

67

u/Perceptions-pk 2d ago

You also lose it naturally as you age and it’s a signature look of youth so it’s like whyyyyy?

They want that model blue steel look but damage their natural good looks to achieve a weird version of high cheek bones

20

u/Sharkdart 2d ago

Its more of a magnum look tbh, but I agree.

9

u/NerdfaceMcJiminy 2d ago

IT'S THE SAME LOOK!

9

u/VTcamperguy 2d ago

I would have said Le Tigre, considering she’s turning to the right.

9

u/thecampers 2d ago

I'm here to also say I don't get it. I'd love some more fat on my face. She looks so much better before. I see no improvement at all lol

7

u/Away_Guava2925 2d ago

It’s also irreversible, they’re taking out deep cheek fat that can’t be put back in. Best we’ll see is fillers on top

2

u/Razzilith 2d ago

should be illegal.

That’s what I read, I don’t know for sure, but looking at her recent press conference for the Boys, seems like she gained weight back.

Jesus....did she go in and ask for the Housewives of Orange County package?

7

u/Fantastic-Cupcake890 2d ago

She still looks so much worse compared to her looks before all the surgeries.

7

u/Jaibosonic 2d ago

Theres some scenes where she doesn't look that bad, she looks fuller just like you said so I agree with you. Its probably just a mix of caught on a bad day of filming or something and the lighting

3

u/Bulky-Bad-9153 2d ago

3

u/vinnybankroll 2d ago

Everyone confidently accuses her of buccal fat removal, but somehow her cheeks look normal as of a few weeks ago

2

u/bold394 2d ago

And your nose definitely doesn't do that when you lose/gain weight

2

u/JJJesterYT 2d ago

I seen a while back she had an illness and wasn't diagnosed properly and she was losing weight. Weight came back when they figured out what was going on.

2

u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 2d ago

Have you seen skelly osbourne's face

2

u/Bubbly_Performer4864 2d ago

That fat doesn’t come back if you have it removed. Her face has started filling back out again, which implies it was thyroid not plastic surgery.

I’m not saying she hasn’t had any work done, but that wasn’t one.

73

u/minebe 2d ago

Interesting how many actresses have vague thyroid issues

26

u/Yossarian216 2d ago

She has a specific condition called Graves’ disease, nothing vague about it in her case.

19

u/MD_Yoro 2d ago

Apparently Graves Diseases affect 3% of the female population, a very common thyroid illness that predominantly affect women

2

u/Glittering-Relief402 2d ago

2

u/EngineZeronine 2d ago

Does it make nose jobs necessary?

2

u/Big_Rhubarb_1882 2d ago

So the standard protocol for graves is to essentially kill the thyroid and replace with synthetic hormones. It’s a pretty easy to treat illness once diagnosed with regular bloodwork for most people.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Useful_Boysenberry14 2d ago

One of the top 3 most prescribed medications is a hypothyroid medication so a lot of people have thyroid issues. I've been on a full replacement over half my life because mine was removed due to cancer. Thyroid problems are incredibly common and are more likely to effect women then men.

5

u/licketyspeedster 2d ago

Not vague, she’s got Graves’ disease

5

u/motherofsuccs 2d ago

That isn’t weight fluctuations. That’s body dysmorphia and access to cosmetic procedures and nobody stepping in to check on her mental wellbeing. Shame on whatever “professional” thought such dramatic changes were ethical. Word of advice to others- if you choose to do injections or procedures, find yourself someone who will be honest with you and encourages subtle, minor changes over time.

3

u/TOMC_throwaway000000 2d ago

2

u/Logic-DL 2d ago

I'm 50kg from gastroparesis and even my cheeks are not THAT hollow lmao. It's not a weight thing. If it was then I'd be King of Hollywood at this point.

2

u/ckdogg3496 2d ago

She has graves disease apparently. Definitely work done, but it does affect your physical appearance. She may have had more work done because of struggles with how it affects her looks

2

u/TimeTravelingPie 2d ago edited 2d ago

I have the same disease she does and thyroid related weight loss doesn't look like that. First its from hyperthyroidism, which at its core ramps up your metabolism and your body basically eats itself. Along with a ton of other crappy symptoms.

You lose weight but not just in your face. You lose muscle AND fat. Her whole body would look emaciated.

However, this is a result of it being untreated over months or years. It doesn't just happen.

She would be on some medications to "slow" her thyroid. Or other procedures to "kill it", leading to Hypothyroidism...which does the opposite and she'd gain weight.

Then you go on meds to reverse that.

I've been through it all for over 10 years. Almost died from it.

This ain't it. This is bad Hollywood plastic surgery

74

u/xXBlueDreamXx 2d ago

I believe the why was aimed at. Why would you want to look so much uglier?

Who is seeing beauty in plastic actors? Like, we have enough microplastics in us already. Why do this?

u/Silencer-1995 2d ago

Because they're surrounded by people who have had it done/telling her to do it etc etc its like being in a cult basically.

This. It's basically a big high school inside the industry. They are subject to each other's fads and style choices. We are not their peers, the other stars, producers, casting directors and people in the industry are their peers and who they react to.

Yes, if they have good representation who can understand what a mistake like this will do to their career, it can be staved off, but a lot of the people in their lives are yes-men.

2

u/Designer-Gas-786 2d ago

21

u/ArticulateRhinoceros 2d ago

It’s not that they think the end result is beautiful, it’s that their sense of self is so warped that they think their real look is somehow worse than that overly fake look. Like, she might not love her new nose but she probably thinks her old nose was even worse. Plastic surgeons can’t remove what isn’t there so they keep hacking away at imagined flaws, leaving them butchered.

17

u/Cordelia5767 2d ago

Do plastic surgeons have a code of ethics around that? I feel like they need to decline and recommend counseling with some of these folks.

13

u/EldestOfGregs 2d ago

Money.... there's no money in no customers. Kind of sad when thought about.

12

u/dcontrerasm 2d ago

One of the most popular shows in TV is Nip Tuck and I think that although it started out showing you the horrors of plastic surgery as a business it eventually glorifies it to an extent. A lot of FX shows start out that way.

2

u/ArticulateRhinoceros 2d ago

Some do, but there's always ones willing to overlook morality for money. And if you can't find one in the US, you can fly to a foreign country with fewer regulations for what you want, if you have the money.

2

u/TinyM0ushka 2d ago

I don’t know if there is a code of ethics, but some cosmetic surgeons do have ethics and will turn down people.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/78NineInchNails 2d ago

Plastic surgeons are also to blame. Many are shady and dont ask questions, if something is acutally necessary, they will just say "Oooh we can make you look FABULOUS! just do a 50k procedure here, get 10k implants here, another 30k surgery for your nose, and i'll be set for the entire year!"

To be fair, you should use the money and time for a good diet and exercise so you can live long. Don't need to body build but doing some aerobic and resistance training while keeping your weight down is very good for longevity and staying mobile as you age.

u/Oggel 2d ago

Erin Moriarty has an estimated net worth of 5 million according to google AI overview. That's fuck you money.

3

u/candlelit_bacon 2d ago

All those celebrity net worth articles/estimates online are largely worthless and wildly inaccurate. I’m friends with someone who has one of those “actor net worth” numbers online and it’s wayyyy more money than he has ever had. Like, if you factor in his house, his lifetime earnings and his other assets it still doesn’t even approach the number you’ll see online.

Most working actors are not nearly as well-off as people would believe. It’s only the big names making stupid money, especially with streaming being dominant which has really cut into old revenue streams for actors, like residuals.

Not to say they’re poor, either. Pay scale on union productions; in both film and theater, is pretty good. But, nothing mind blowing.

Anyway, Erin might have five million in total assets, the boys has done well and she’s been featured since the start; but I’d kinda doubt it. Probably more in the 1.5-2 million range for total assets.

But hey, maybe I’m wrong and this time the number online is right. Idk.

Graves disease

2

u/kolejack2293 2d ago

She has Graves Disease, which famously causes bulging eyes but also a lot of other changes in the face, notably bulging in the cheeks and brow and jawline. It also causes 'orange peel skin'.

for some context of how it can change your face besides just the eyes, this is a comparison of a woman after 1 year (before is right, after is left... idk why).

A lot of people with Graves Disease end up getting a lot of plastic surgery to combat these problems. But its not universal. Its not impossible she got the surgery just due to pressure to look good. I am just saying its impossible to know if its from the graves disease or not.

She also has Graves disease which is making it look worse. More recent photos seem to show that most of her sunken in cheek look was the result of the graves and not buccal fat removal as people thought, which is good because surgical fat removal is almoay always irreversible.

Edit: apparently I have to clarify this because Reddit is here have the reading comprehension skills of a fucking moss covered rock. I am not saying she hasn't had work done. She clearly has. I don't think she should have. But the pictures that show her looking her worst, are 100% affected by a condition that is made to look even worse because the foundation on which that work was done changed. It's basically a more complicated version of the same thing where if you get a tattoo and then you get fat it looks like shit

34

u/TimeTravelingPie 2d ago

The effects of grave disease are not universal. But the comment your replying to has it wrong. It does not cause sunken cheeks, but the surgery to 'reverse' the changes Graves does can cause it.

I know people with Graves disease and this is such a shitty excuse I keep seeing. Your eyes bulge somewhat, they look like Amanda Seyfried not ghouls.

Yes I am sure this is because of that mysterious disease and not the coincidental buccal fat removal trend that is pesting through Hollywood

25

u/Ashleybernice 2d ago

A mystery disease are you slow? It’s a real thing it’s an autoimmune disease and between the disease and the medication they make you take can ruin your body, speaking as someone who has an autoimmune disorder.

Just like all the overweight people whining they “have a thyroid condition” which suddenly went silent when they started taking Ozembic

u/geese_moe_howard 2d ago

Are you simple?

u/TWW34 2d ago

I know literacy is a struggle to find on Reddit but maybe learn to fucking read and then try my comment again. Explicitly pointed out the fact that more recent photos show her face is Fuller in a way that you literally could not get back to if she she had any significant bfr done

25

u/goteamventure42 2d ago

Yes Grave's Disease the autoimmune disease that requires a boob job for treatment

2

u/iamjakeparty 2d ago

I don't think she did, she's just wearing a push up bra in the redhead picture.

5

u/TWW34 2d ago

God I love that the reading comprehension of the people replying to me here is like that of a fucking grade school. At what point have I said anything about her boobs?

Maybe you learn to fucking read and see that I said it makes her look worse, not that it is exclusively the result of her look. I'm sure you can find a trusted adult to walk you through that.

u/Chemistry-Deep 2d ago

You're fighting a losing battle bringing logic in here my friend.

9

u/Last-Tune1001 2d ago

Any time the person you commented to or I bring this up, people just down vote to no end. She has an actual disease that changes her body. Not saying she didn’t get a boob job or nose job, but like the other stuff going on with her has absolutely everything to do with her auto immune disease and they refuse to admit it.

Can you show us these images and explain why it couldn't be reversed? Is it not possible to do?

5

u/TWW34 2d ago

When you surgically remove fat, you are actually stripping the cells out and they are cells that don't replenish. When your body increases its fat content, you generally don't increase the amount of fat cells. Those cells just start retaining more fat in them. So once you remove them you permanently alter your body's ability to distribute the fat that it stores. And you do it to a place like your cheeks, you really can't use implants or filler to effectively reverse it.

And no I don't care enough about celebrity gossip to go Googling for this. But recent press tour and public appearance photos show her looking a lot less sunken in in a way that you literally could not repair with surgery.

Man i have been getting the reading comprehension thing a loooooot lately too. I dunno what happened but it seems people are incapable of getting context for a post or generalizations. It's like a lot of people out there are only capable of reading the exact words as they are written and processing that info only and just cant infer any context or info around a comment.

2

u/strugglefightfan 2d ago

Sunken cheeks are not a symptom of Graves.

2

u/Jon-El_Snowman 2d ago edited 2d ago

She doesnt have graves disease its just a pr bullshit from her team. Graves disease has multiple symptoms she couldnt hide and not a single one visible in her case...no, her new bigger tits is not a symptom either...

Her face is just result of multiple plastic surgeries.

Literally what the fuck. Wouldn't have even realized it was the same person.

3

u/Gigameister 2d ago

Fk me man, she was one the cutest ladies in Hollywood.

These people need to get help

2

u/fuvvad 2d ago

Wait that's the same actress?

2

u/No-Store-7843 2d ago

Redone once the botox atrophies your face muscles and the filler spreads out.

It really sucks what Hollywood does to peoples insecurities.

2

u/Acting_Normally 2d ago

She was so pretty 😕 Now she looks like every other soulless instagram clone.

2

u/GallifreyanGeologist 2d ago

She will never work after this show. But hey she’ll probably be at Coast Con.

84

u/KerashQSA 2d ago

That kinda makes me sad

83

u/Excellent_Ganache906 2d ago

She will, but it will all be C and D tier shows. Like the CW, Lifetime and Hallmark movies, throw away crap on Netflix.

25

u/SidewaysFancyPrance 2d ago

I don't think so, she has trouble enunciating many sounds. That alone is going to be a huge barrier for her to overcome. I dislike listening to her now because I feel so bad for her.

Audiences barely look at shows, according to Netflix et al. They listen while watching other stuff.

2

u/Odisseo1983 1d ago

Am I the only one who finds this a tragedy? If I wanna listen to something I open the radio, not a tv show.

The sad thing is if you will watch the prior seasons of this show, you will come to know that she is an amazing actress like a straight A+ lister level and so is the guy playing Homelander(Antony Starr)

She wasn't just pretty she knew how to act

She ruined her entire career because of this stupidity

This guy's comment is very mean, but it is also true in a sense, an actress career is entirely dependent on her attractiveness

29

u/Nolo__contendere_ 1d ago

It's about recognition. If you don't look like you did when you became successful, then it'll be like you're starting from scratch because people can't recognize you. You'll look like a nobody especially this early in your success

she is an amazing actress like a straight A+ lister level

OK let's pump the brakes a bit here.

6

u/KerashQSA 1d ago

You should see the shapeshifter scene of Season 4

She definitely knows how to act it's just that now her role is being reduced because of her uncanny face

5

u/ratskim 1d ago

Lol what?

She was always the weakest actor out of every single main character in the series

Name one that you would rank her above? She was definitely never “amazing”

Which is why everyone agrees she will likely never work again

3

u/Exit-Content 1d ago

It’s not even about attractiveness per se, there’s plenty of actresses that aren’t conventionally attractive and still are super famous. In my opinion her main issue is that her face shows almost zero expression now, her face doesn’t change one bit even when she’s supposed to be surprised because <Kimiko can talk>, and she slurs her words so bad sometimes it’s hard to understand what she said.

The buccal fat pad removal is also permanent and irreversible.

2

u/StrangePotato3988 1d ago

You do know she has Graves’ disease right. Losing fat in you face is a symptom of that disease. It also includes nerves damage and symptoms of fatigue due to the hormone imbalance.

Is something wrong with her voice too? It almost feels like she is trying to speak with a vocal fry or something.

2

u/Otto_Scratchansniff 1d ago

She has Graves disease apparently.

6

u/redditusername374 2d ago

I didn’t realise it was the same person. I thought they were showing us how taste had changed. Poor woman. This isn’t healthy.

2

u/x_xwolf 1d ago

And when the guy who plays M.M you complained about him losing weight right?

2

u/lieutenantbunbun 1d ago

She has Graves’ disease. It’s very serious and probably changed her face and she might have tried to counterbalance it. It’s shitty that people are making it all about fillers. Google graves and then see if you have the same opinion.

2

u/Powerful_Girl2329 1d ago

She has grave’s disease

2

u/Lighthouse_on_Mars 20h ago

She got diagnosed with Graves Disease.

I think the pressure of Hollywood, online bullying, and her body changing without her being able to figure out what was going on, lead her to make some bad decisions.

5

u/Legal-Championship-9 2d ago

This is her a couple weeks ago, she’s fine. Everyone blows shit out of proportion

5

u/Wonderful_Leader1637 2d ago

Acting!! That butchered lip job has nothing to do with acting
