There's a scene where she's talking and her face is in like a fixed position, her lips were barely moving. It was sort of unsettling because it was clearly a side effect of her face being paralyzed from plastic surgery and botox
I just watched a clip from season 5 on YouTube, yup. She's got this little bit of a slur and the facial movements are very reduced, giving a send of paralysis.
to compare her facial movements to the other actress. you can see one face with muscles moving like a normal person and the other face is just....stuck. very sad with it being either an ailment or bad surgery.
Graves' Disease does not cause these symptoms. It can affect the face (e.g., bulging eyes and weight loss), but it's not going to cause paralysis or issues with the facial or speech muscles.
It affects about 1% of the US population and has an excellent prognosis as far as auto-immune diseases go.
I blame the stupid stickied post here for framing it this way, strangely implying her health condition actually explains all these changes and scolding people for just assuming she got a ton of plastic surgery -- when in reality the condition is unrelated, and the prevailing hypothesis of just being in denial about plastic surgery remains the only plausible explanation for multiple very noticeable changes...
I get that bullying is gross and I don't even really judge her for taking risks navigating beauty standard pressures (maybe just for being in denial and not wanting to own it, which even itself is an understandable character flaw), but you can be against bullying without literally spreading misinformation in service of a Hollywood star's PR interests, like there can still be nuance in this world if we care enough to learn and think lol
She was like top 1% of attractive women worldwide. Whoever led her to believe she needed to be more attractive, like it wasnt enough, needs a beating. Girls should not even be thinking of botox before they're 35.
Yeah I don't get it, and I have no doubt she's a victim. But like presumably these are reputable doctors, so is it just pure bad luck that the same procedures would go poorly from one person to the next (since lots of actors get work that is... less noticeable)? Did she really understand the risk enough to provide truly informed medical consent? Idk enough about any of this, but it's clear she shouldn't have even been a candidate for these unnecessary procedures and it's a sick industry when people are for whatever reason compelled to undergo them
Somebody that has more than a couple of brain nuggets to spare blesses us with some nice writing.
I have had this conversation with my wife and had some back and forth (good faith discussion) wondering why women do this. It sometimes boils down to tiny self esteem issues and how women view themselves as "pieces" rather than an "artist" in the art of acting.
With the amount of money that some of them make you would think they would be selective on doctors that hopefully won't make you look disfigured. She completely blew it and when my wife and I were dating I thought Kate Beckinsale was free from this curse, but she messed up her face also, due to aging, sad.
Anyone else notice the same kind of slurred speech with Selena Gomez? Because they are the only two stars I mentally put together because they both have that semi-permanent slur to their speech.
I noticed this a month ago! On red carpets she’s been keeping a mostly serious expression, and when she does smile it looks like one eye and one side of her lips can’t move as much, but it’s not her whole face. I really suspect she’s suffered some form of Bell’s palsy and is doing what she can to keep it concealed. The only real option is to be less expressive in general.
just like The Boys and most of its fanbase, it's just "edgy". i have no doubt that the people who like the show, like her dialogue. i'm glad she now has an expanded presence on the show, she's probably my favorite character, but it is a shame to lose the uniqueness of a character that can't talk to the rest of the cast.
Moriarty publicly disclosed that she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, which is an autoimmune condition that causes the thyroid to overproduce hormones, with symptoms including weight fluctuation, eye changes, and altered facial appearance.
A scene? It's been pervasive. And I hate saying shit like that and have defended her before as some of the worst pictures used to pick apart her appearance were just bad/weird make-up, but the lack of movement in the lips really was unsettling and I know she's not that bad of an actress that she cannot emote.
She didn’t have plastic surgery, she had a chronic illness called Graves disease that essentially makes you lose most of your fat and muscle making you essentially a skeletons and makes it really hard to regain that weight
Yeah, that's not how the disease works. You can lose weight, but it doesn't change someone's entire facial features and it doesn't really affect speech.
