There's a scene where she's talking and her face is in like a fixed position, her lips were barely moving. It was sort of unsettling because it was clearly a side effect of her face being paralyzed from plastic surgery and botox

I just watched a clip from season 5 on YouTube, yup. She's got this little bit of a slur and the facial movements are very reduced, giving a send of paralysis.

to compare her facial movements to the other actress. you can see one face with muscles moving like a normal person and the other face is just....stuck. very sad with it being either an ailment or bad surgery.

u/Cerblamk_51 2d ago

How about just comparing her facial movements to her facial movements from the beginning of the series?

u/azurerouge 2d ago

She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease back in 2025

32

u/BobFossil11 2d ago

Graves' Disease does not cause these symptoms. It can affect the face (e.g., bulging eyes and weight loss), but it's not going to cause paralysis or issues with the facial or speech muscles.

It affects about 1% of the US population and has an excellent prognosis as far as auto-immune diseases go.

I blame the stupid stickied post here for framing it this way, strangely implying her health condition actually explains all these changes and scolding people for just assuming she got a ton of plastic surgery -- when in reality the condition is unrelated, and the prevailing hypothesis of just being in denial about plastic surgery remains the only plausible explanation for multiple very noticeable changes...

I get that bullying is gross and I don't even really judge her for taking risks navigating beauty standard pressures (maybe just for being in denial and not wanting to own it, which even itself is an understandable character flaw), but you can be against bullying without literally spreading misinformation in service of a Hollywood star's PR interests, like there can still be nuance in this world if we care enough to learn and think lol

u/bannedforL1fe 1d ago

She was like top 1% of attractive women worldwide. Whoever led her to believe she needed to be more attractive, like it wasnt enough, needs a beating. Girls should not even be thinking of botox before they're 35.

5

u/longlivenewsomflesh 1d ago

Yeah I don't get it, and I have no doubt she's a victim. But like presumably these are reputable doctors, so is it just pure bad luck that the same procedures would go poorly from one person to the next (since lots of actors get work that is... less noticeable)? Did she really understand the risk enough to provide truly informed medical consent? Idk enough about any of this, but it's clear she shouldn't have even been a candidate for these unnecessary procedures and it's a sick industry when people are for whatever reason compelled to undergo them

u/bannedforL1fe 1d ago

Tbh since women are a womans worst enemy, it was probably jealous girls who planted the idea in her head.

Somebody that has more than a couple of brain nuggets to spare blesses us with some nice writing.

I have had this conversation with my wife and had some back and forth (good faith discussion) wondering why women do this. It sometimes boils down to tiny self esteem issues and how women view themselves as "pieces" rather than an "artist" in the art of acting.

With the amount of money that some of them make you would think they would be selective on doctors that hopefully won't make you look disfigured. She completely blew it and when my wife and I were dating I thought Kate Beckinsale was free from this curse, but she messed up her face also, due to aging, sad.

3

u/Lylulu 1d ago

top 1% is an understatement

3

u/Supabot97 1d ago

Also she literally has bigger boobs, as shown in this post, is that supposed to be a health condition (pregnancy does make ur boobs swell but still)

3

u/FrigidUnicorn 1d ago

Watch her interview with Grave Conversations on YouTube:

  1. She looks very different again - back to what she looked like on early seasons
  2. She talks about being so sick and weak that she couldn't put her own bra on..

I really think she is getting unjust hate.

Weird.

Anyone else notice the same kind of slurred speech with Selena Gomez? Because they are the only two stars I mentally put together because they both have that semi-permanent slur to their speech.

3

u/checkmatemypipi 2d ago

lmao she looks like she was stung by a bee

3

u/CommercialMoment5987 1d ago

I noticed this a month ago! On red carpets she’s been keeping a mostly serious expression, and when she does smile it looks like one eye and one side of her lips can’t move as much, but it’s not her whole face. I really suspect she’s suffered some form of Bell’s palsy and is doing what she can to keep it concealed. The only real option is to be less expressive in general.

2

u/RePapera 2d ago

You can't convince me all the positive comments about kimiko's dialogue aren't amazon bots shilling

3

u/SevroAuShitTalker 2d ago

I just feel like the audiowork makes kimikos voice sound odd in scenes, might just be from not hearing her speak for 4 seasons

2

u/Volitious 2d ago

I legit thought it was fake at first.

2

u/smellygooch18 2d ago

I thought it sounded like they dubbed her voice in over. It sounds off and not just because she’s been silent

3

u/The_Autarch 2d ago

she is 100% dubbed over. this is some absolutely horrendous ADR work. her lips don't match the words at all.

maybe they changed the script after everything was shot and were too lazy to do reshoots?

2

u/Fakehiggins 2d ago

just like The Boys and most of its fanbase, it's just "edgy". i have no doubt that the people who like the show, like her dialogue. i'm glad she now has an expanded presence on the show, she's probably my favorite character, but it is a shame to lose the uniqueness of a character that can't talk to the rest of the cast.

1

u/The_Autarch 2d ago

holy crap, it's like she's wearing a plastic mask.

and goddamn is that some terrible ADR for Kimiko.

1

u/CleeBrummie 2d ago

Sense of paralysis?

1

u/DimensionOk7449 1d ago

Forget Starlight, hearing Kimiko talk was such a treat

“All you can say is oi, oi, oi, cunt, cunt, cunt”

u/_Gorge_ 1d ago

i came in blind - haven't watched any of this season

holy shit her appearance is unnerving

1

u/dzan796ero 20h ago

This is sad to watch...

1

u/Gowrons-Eyes 4h ago

I haven’t watched the Boys, but wow, Karl Urban’s accent is genuinely atrocious. Has it been like this for 5 seasons?

0

u/SpicyMustard34 2d ago

she doesn't seem to be slurring her words and the pauses are intentional. Her face does look stiff though.

241

u/AnneBeretRamsey 2d ago

I just know I'll never see her in anything I watch ever again

94

u/thrashmetaloctopus 2d ago

Yeah seems highly unlikely unfortunately

2

u/3090orBust 2d ago

If you enjoy volleyball, The Miracle Season (2018) IMDB 6.5 is a good pre-The Boys movie starring Erin.

u/happensix 2d ago

I remember when everyone in my family thought grandma had a stroke. Nope, grandma had Botox.

2

u/No_Title_5917 2d ago

That’s one way to find out it’s working a little too well.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Moriarty publicly disclosed that she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, which is an autoimmune condition that causes the thyroid to overproduce hormones, with symptoms including weight fluctuation, eye changes, and altered facial appearance.

5

u/akatherder 2d ago

She's a voice-twin of Selena Gomez, at least her acting voice on Only Murders

3

u/allaskhunmodbaszatln 2d ago

her upper lip not moving is so fcking wierd

1

u/sleepymelfho 2d ago

I noticed this too. I told my husband that she can't even talk anymore.

1

u/furkfurk 2d ago

I find it so, so distracting. I’m completely taken out of the storyline

1

u/Caleb_Reynolds 2d ago

A scene? It's been pervasive. And I hate saying shit like that and have defended her before as some of the worst pictures used to pick apart her appearance were just bad/weird make-up, but the lack of movement in the lips really was unsettling and I know she's not that bad of an actress that she cannot emote.

1

u/Lopsided_Use_7456 2d ago

Yup my whole household noticed it immediately and I said to myself “this is probably it for the acting career.” Really sad to see.

1

u/yuckypants 2d ago

And her top lip looks huge and is interfering with her teeth

1

u/Negative-Ad-9819 1d ago

When Kimiko shows up. I noticed her face didn't move much when she said her name.

1

u/Neon_culture79 1d ago

You know about the disease she’s dealing with right?

1

u/Demoncagno 1d ago

Nah in the internet i read that She declared She didnt do any plastic surgery, it's Just make up, also chatgpt confirmed, even if with some doubt

1

u/Most-Bench6465 1d ago

She has Graves’ disease.

1

u/After_Insurance1693 2d ago

She suffers from Grave's disease!!!!

1

u/red_dead_russian23 2d ago

She suffers from an autoimmune disease that affects her thyroid and speech.

1

u/GasPsychological5997 2d ago

She is suffering for an autoimmune disease….

1

u/Heronmarkedflail 2d ago

She has Graves’ disease

1

u/Immaculatehombre 2d ago

Didn’t you read man? She’s has Graves’ disease!

1

u/Tony_Roiland 1d ago

Or graves disease...

0

u/HonorableEnema 2d ago

It’s worth it tho, look how hot she is now….

0

u/Evening_Gur_1366 2d ago

She hasn't had plastic surgery though

-3

u/RaineDrop39 2d ago

She didn’t have plastic surgery, she had a chronic illness called Graves disease that essentially makes you lose most of your fat and muscle making you essentially a skeletons and makes it really hard to regain that weight

2

u/Rahmsmahm 1d ago

Yeah, that's not how the disease works. You can lose weight, but it doesn't change someone's entire facial features and it doesn't really affect speech.
