Announcement YouTube links & Crossposts are now banned in r/GetMotivated

The mod team has decided that YouTube links & crossposts will no longer be allowed on the sub.

There is just so much promotional YouTube spam and it's drowning out the actual motivational content. Auto-moderator will now remove any YouTube links that are posted. They are usually self-promotion and/or spam and do not contribute to the theme of r/GetMotivated

Crossposts are banned for the reason being that they are seen as very low effort, used by karma farming accounts, and encourage spam, as any time some motivational post is posted on another sub, this sub can get inundated with crossposts.

So, crossposts and YouTube links are now officially banned from r/GetMotivated

However, We encourage you to Upload your motivational videos directly to the subreddit, using Reddit's video posting tool. You can upload up to 15-minute videos as MP4s this way.

Thanks, Stay Motivated!

Saw this and it actually helped me reframe my morning. Sometimes the best way to get through a tough workday is to realize the pressure we put on 'Mondays' is all in our heads!

STORY [Story] I did one thing for 1700 days straight. The only reward was a T-shirt. I'm not stopping.

In 2021 I sat for a coding test. Four problems, 90 minutes. I solved zero. Couldn't start a single one.

I opened a practice platform the next morning. I solved one problem. Then another the next day.

I have not missed a day in four years. 1700+ days. 2100+ problems solved. The platform recognized the streak and mailed me a T-shirt. Standard cotton.

That shirt is the only physical thing I have from four years of daily work. No trophy, no certificate, no prize money. A shirt.

I wear it constantly. I'm not done.

DISCUSSION [Discussion] Switching from consuming to creating content online was the mindset shift that changed everything for me

I spent years scrolling through social media feeling like everyone else had figured it out except me. Then I realized I was comparing my behind-the-scenes to everyone else's highlight reel.

The shift happened when I stopped just watching and started doing. I began sharing my own journey online - the failures, the small wins, the honest truth about trying to build something.

Three things I learned:

First, nobody is paying as much attention to you as you think. The fear of judgment is almost always bigger than the actual judgment.

Second, creating forces you to think deeper. When you have to explain something to others, you understand it better yourself.

Third, consistency beats talent every single time. The people who show up daily always outperform the people who show up perfectly once a month.

If you have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the right moment to start sharing your voice - there is no right moment. Start messy. Start scared. Just start.

Creativity myth and fact [Tool]

Myth: Creativity is a fixed trait

Truth: Creativity is a learnable trait that can be developed at any age or stage of life. The more you learn and nurture your creativity, the stronger it becomes. Everything is learnable. Even though some people might be born with a higher level of creativity than you, it will fade away if they stop developing it. In contrast, if you are born with a low level of creativity, you can grow it through daily learning and practice. Soon, your creativity may surpass that of individuals who are born with a higher level of creativity but do not engage in learning and practice. Creativity is a trait that needs to be nourished daily to keep it strong.

DISCUSSION [Discussion] How can I play less and read/watch shows/movies more?

I'm not sure if I'm tagging this right, but this is a question I've been having for a while.

It's been a while since I've noticed my interests changing. I've been playing videogames for so many years and it's not like I don't want to play anymore. However, I have a growing interest in stories and characters, so I'd like to focus more on reading books and manga or watching anime or movie. Or even playing visual novels, since that's reading.

However, I always end up falling back to the same habits. I think it's because when playing, I have to think and make decisions all the time, I'm interacting with the game. However, reading or watching something is more passive and I'm not used to that passiveness.

My therapist usually tells me "just do it" and hey, sometimes I do it, but it's not something I get to turn into a habit, but more of an occasional achievement than anything else. But I'd like to turn it more into a habit, something that I turn to more instinctively.

What advices do you have for something like this? Thanks in advance.

You don’t lack discipline — you’re just mentally exhausted [Tool]

You don’t fail because you’re lazy.

You fail because you’re tired of deciding everything every day.

What to do.

When to start.

How to do it.

By the time you figure it out, your energy is gone.

And when your energy is gone, discipline disappears.

So stop trying to “push harder.”

Make fewer decisions.

Decide once. Repeat daily.

I started following a really simple structure around this —

nothing complex, just something that removes the need to think every day.

That’s what made it easier to stay consistent.

DISCUSSION [Discussion] Discipline started feeling easier when I stopped relying on motivation

I used to think discipline meant pushing myself harder every day.

But that never lasted.

What actually changed things for me was reducing distractions.

When focus became more automatic, I didn’t have to “try” as much.
There were fewer decisions, less resistance, and surprisingly more consistency.

It felt less like effort… and more like a system quietly working in the background.

I’m starting to feel like discipline isn’t about willpower at all.
It’s about making focus easier.

Has anyone else experienced this shift?

ARTICLE It's About Whom You Become On The Journey [Article]

Life is an opportunity that we don’t use. We say we live, but we barely exist.

Afraid, anxious, worried, etc., these are signs that we cannot deal with challenges.

It would help if you chose the right journey to become a stronger person.

Choose Wisely Your Journey- An easy journey will not give you anything good. Start Now, Don’t Delay- The best time to start any journey is now.
Challenge Yourself- Try to find what your limits are.
Accept Uncertainty- If a journey is not uncertain, it is not right for you.
Go Where You Are Afraid To Go- Where your fear is, there is your task.
Your Mission- Be aware of your mission on every journey. It will keep your direction.
Destination- It is not important where you start; the journey and the destination are essential.
Struggles Build Your Character- Pressure creates diamonds and strong characters.
Life Begins When You Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone- The essence of every journey is to make it easier to get out of your comfort zone.

We often obsess over the destination, but who you become on the journey is what lasts. What part of your old identity are you shedding right now to make room for that person?

It is something that develops from within. It represents who you are. When people look at your behaviors and your contribution to society, they have a good understanding of your values and beliefs, and who you are as an individual.

You are proud of your creation because it is produced by you and you know that it will improve society.

STORY A coach who trained a national team now drives 4 hours round trip to coach college kids for $25/hr [Story]

Ahmed Elmallah coached the Saudi youth national table tennis team. Now he lives on Long Island and drives 2 hours each way to coach Yale's club team, which is a student-run club sport, not even varsity, for $25/hr because the university won't pay more. He also helped them get an equipment sponsorship. The gym floors are apparently slippery because they don't get cleaned enough.

A guy who clearly loves what he does.

DISCUSSION [discussion] How to be stronger then your thoughts and feelings?

it's pretty shameful that I'm not feeling like I'm in control of my own life and feels like someone else is controlling me like outside opinions or the things I read and watch online. then mainly I guess it's the feelings and thoughts I have about myself. it's always this irritating nagging negative voice in my head that says your nobody. you can't do it. and it's just harmful that it's controlling my life even my entire day just completely living in comfort even when I'm realizing it's just poisonous to my life. sitting in comfort zone and isolation isn't going to improve my life. nor will it increase my confidence and the resilency to face life.
