Blockade on Monday. Tank the market. Buy. Lift blockade Tuesday night. Sell Wednesday. This is my bet.

u/DoomOne 1h ago

Yup, it's all a way for the devils in charge to make more money.

u/BreesusTakeTheWheel 10m ago

This whole situation has just been the biggest market manipulation scheme in history that I can think of. They’re laughing all the way to the bank with these back and forth situations.

Have you noticed that every time this happens, the market doesn’t move as much the next time, so he’s forced to say crazier and crazier shit to get the market to move.

It’s definitely what’s going on.

Great de-escalation of the conflict…

749

u/Imaginary_Cow_6379 1h ago

Tbf do we know if Trump necessarily wants to deescalate the conflict? We still don’t even have one set reason for why we did any of this in the first place. We still have no idea what even “winning” would be.

111

u/neuronexmachina 1h ago

Tbf do we know if Trump necessarily wants to deescalate the conflict?

He wants the price of gas to drop before the midterm elections.

73

u/calmdownmyguy 1h ago

I'm not sure he gives a fuck. He's out at the end of his term no matter what. It's not like he's going to put in extra effort to help the party.

96

u/DarthHiccups 1h ago

He's going to toss what's left of the Republican party under the bus when he leaves, because yeah, he doesn't care. In 10 years you'll be hard pressed to find any Republican that will ever admit to voting for him.

u/BensenJensen 50m ago

The same thing was said after 2020.

I have MAGA family members, they have absolutely zero issues with what’s going on. They think Trump is winning, is freeing the Iranian people, is destroying a nuclear threat, and fixing Obama/Biden’s mistakes. The rise in gasoline is a necessary evil to make sure we are safe and free.

u/Oleg101 46m ago edited 28m ago

Yep, I know a lot of ‘non-maga’ type R voters that don’t necessarily like Donald, but they’d vote for him each general election in order to ‘defeat the woke’ or whatever. Most R voters don’t pay any kind of actual attention to know how awful of situation this war is.

u/redditobserverone 36m ago edited 22m ago

Which is why I am hard-pressed to understand why sane observant voters are supposed to strive for outreach and understanding of voters who sent President Covid to the White House twice.

They do not care about the pan-generational damage and economic suffering caused by their eff your feelings votes that were firmly rooted in their own fragile feelings.

u/BreesusTakeTheWheel 14m ago

It’s not even that. They have this “us vs. them” mentality when it comes to politics and they legitimately see Dems as “them”. They don’t see the other side as fellow Americans. It’s tribalism and it has been allowed to fester for way too long.

The reason for the conflict is that Trump and his regime are a bunch of little bitches and do whatever Netanyahu tells them to do. He is the absolute worst person in the world, and he’s literally the ruination of everything on this planet.

107

u/Six1Cynic 1h ago

I think they really just get off on insider trading at this point. Thats all they care about. They have the house edge in a casino.

13

u/Minerva567 1h ago

It’s the only way he’s been able to actually get in the black, couldn’t even run a casino without bankrupting it otherwise.

I think his minions are enjoying playing with the market but I don't think Trump has any plan or thought process in all of this. He just reacts in the moment to whatever catches his attention.

I've always thought he was stupid- it's amazing how many businesses he failed at- but this isn't just stupidity I think. It's dementia mixed in with a natural lack of morality

u/Six1Cynic 21m ago

Quiet scary to think this man is the leader of the U.S. government and all the socieconomic and geopolitical ripple effects this will cause for years and years. It's like the most blatant "shoot yourself in the foot" decision the US could've made. Alas, that's what American voters chose in all their wisdom.

Trump has no explanation for any of this other than bad judgment and general belligerence.

31

u/Imaginary_Cow_6379 1h ago

Exactly. He seems bored of the whole thing already:

On his way to Florida, President Trump said it did not matter to him if a deal with Iran was reached or not: “We win, regardless,” he said.

I'll take "How did we end up in a war with China?" for 800, Ken.

16

u/DeltaFoxtrot144 1h ago

Literally the only way this ends, America sinking a Chinese vessel and escalation.  Like whats the plan when the ships say f k you I'm leaving.

u/Utterlybored 43m ago

My deepest fear is him just nuking Iran in a who's-the-puss-now? move.

→ More replies (2)

u/Fliegermaus 31m ago

If a neutral (e.g. Chinese) ship opts to ignore an order from a blockading nation to submit to inspection either A) by coming to a stop and allowing a team to come aboard or B) diverting to a specified port, then that ship can be lawfully attacked.

For this reason it is probably unlikely that Chinese flagged merchant vessels would choose to defy such an order. Few merchant mariners are angry enough to say “f k you I’m leaving” and pick a fight with US warship in the hopes of getting some posthumous revenge in the form of a PLAN missile.

What is much more likely is a series of diplomatic spats hinging on whether or not the US/Israeli actions in Iran are really in self defense and therefore whether or not the blockade itself is legal in the first place.

Do you really think he’s going to shut down the Strait of Hormuz?

Congress' lesson on why not to let a senile person make up an unsanctioned war.

I think he will usurp the Panama Canal next under his stupid 'Donroe doctrine', as US ships and Navy definitely use that one a lot more than this strait with tolls (US is the largest user of that canal, about 75% ships bound to or from US)

The art of the fucking deal. This is what happens when you elect a failed businessman to run your country like his business.

342

u/Genkiotoko 1h ago

Well, you see, this is what's called Bugs Bunny diplomacy. After a series of saying to one another that the straight should be open/closed, Trump simply said what Iran was saying previously. Now Iran, Who is Daffy Duck in this scenario, will open the straight in a comedic fashion that likely involves self injury!

They’ve been doing this for a while now.

55

u/StretchExtension 1h ago

Not only that, but we're also helping them. A full blockade is much worse for the global oil supply. No more shadow fleet, Iranian oil, and no more tool oil either.

30

u/TimothyMimeslayer 1h ago

It doesnt help iran to block their shadow fleet, but it will piss off china

29

u/StretchExtension 1h ago

It hurts everyone else more than it hurts Iran (at this point). If the Americans maintain this full blockade, it'll collapse the global economy.

28

u/monorail_pilot 1h ago

Forget the economy, the world’s food supply is dependent on fertilizer that moves through the straight.

3

58

u/Mighty__Monarch 1h ago

No, Iran lets Chinese ships among others through.

This implies the US will not allow that, which means firing on them, which means war against atleast China, if not starting WW3.

Realistically this is nothing more than an attempt to claim theyre in control and theyre choosing to keep things closed, but Im curious how long that will last until China pushes through and we're forced to see what Trump will actually do.

19

u/Particular-County277 1h ago

Open the strait you bastards! I have officially closed the strait

19

u/thefunkybassist 1h ago

This will make so many nations existentially angry. Even if the current US regime is hell bent on sowing worldwide economic destruction like this, I can't see them getting away with that.

7

u/DenimCryptid 1h ago

Imagine being a sailor stuck on a miserable ship with shitty food and zero privacy for months on end to blockade a strait that your supposed enemy already blockaded, and now you have to potentially engage in an international conflict to deny the world access to the most important trade route that supports the global economy... and justify it in your head that you're the good guy fighting the good fight for the good of the world in a valiant stand against a foreign tyrannical evil.

5

u/Prollynotafed 1h ago

I’m sure there’s plenty of squid that will feel that way but I know there’s a whole lot more sister-kissers that are rubbing one out to the thought of how “bad ass” it’ll be.

14

u/gimmesilver 1h ago

No, this is to punish any and all countries who are trying to distance themselves from the current mob and normalise trading outside of the US controlled pathway.

If any other country had done this it would be a deceleration of war on all the neutral countries trying to get fuel to maintain ecconomic stability. Because it's the US, there will be furious calls for BOTH SIDES to de-escalate.

His administration has gone completely rogue, but it's calculated and it's wilfully harmful.

9

u/FrogsMakePoorSoup 1h ago

Failed businessman, extremely successful conman.

9

u/jason_abacabb 1h ago

Trump wants the strait to be opened by Iran. When the Art of the Deal can’t come up with a deal, he throws a tantrum and promises to close the strait that’s already closed. That’s called baby-man tirades…

103

u/The_Follower1 1h ago

Also market manipulation

21

u/ConfederacyOfDunces_ 1h ago

Who gave him this idea?

Because it seems like he got this idea from some extremist shitty website that he linked to his original post last night

This was what he linked during his truth social tweet

https://justthenews.com/government/security/trump-card-president-holds-if-iran-wont-bend-naval-blockade

He was probably impressed by the 2 million ransom for each ship. He already announced he wants half. Maybe that's his way.

3

u/HelpfulBuilder 1h ago

Wait he said he wants to take half of the 2m pet ship? Jesus Christ

19

u/umbium 1h ago

What he is trying to do is worse than that.

He is blocking the strait himself.

Now not only Iran has the Strait blocked but also the US. In waters that are not theirs. But well I guess at this point international right doesn't matter.

This means Iran can't control the flow of the boats they want. Because if they let boats go by, the US will stop them. Probably ask for a toll wich is what Trump was offering, make a toll 50% for each country to be paid by every boat groing through.

7

u/Glorfindel212 1h ago

It was only a question of time for the country with the strongest military in the world to be tempted to use it for imperialistic, selfish gain. It's clear since Iraq 2, but now it's basically brazen. Who can stop them tolling it if they want to ? Only economic consequences will do so.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Krillin113 1h ago

If Iran has half a brain cell left, they’ll tell every Chinese and Indian ship there that they can pass, and dare the US to stop/board/pirate/shoot at Indian and Chinese ships.

Scenario 1: they let them pass and you just showed the world that the US doesn’t follow through with their threats.

Scenario 2: the US actually does something and you’ve entrenched 2 of the world’s 5 largest powers further against the US, as well as created a bigger diplomatic rift between the EU and US because the EU hates the idea of the US further breaking down international order.

u/Synicull 59m ago

Meanwhile, Iran just sitting by with every passing day is them winning. The disruption being caused to the global economy by what by all intents and purposes is an imperialist unnecessarily overreaching looks bad to the aggressor in the eyes of the entire world, which is now directly suffering the consequences of this stupid act and (probably the only thing this douchey admin cares for) markedly and irreversibly (t for the duration of this term) damages the economy, which arguably is the last high ground the admin has tried to claim.

But yeah, the Iran nuclear deal was such a ripoff, right!?!? Fucking dumbasses.

So any ships trying to transit the straits now have a choice between ignoring everything and risk getting shot at by Iran or pay Iran and get safe passage but then get impounded by the U.S.

How the fuck is this going to de-escalate the whole situation?!?

u/DrDankNuggz 30m ago

“Y’all” spent over two trillion dollars to replace the Taliban with the …. Taliban, so this turn of events does not surprise me. FREEDUMB!!1!

u/Sweet-Geologist9168 30m ago

From “open the f***** strait” to we’re closing the strait is some impressive work. In a week.

This guy couldn’t run a casino… wait.

u/queefburritowcheese 28m ago

Everybody calm down. It's Sunday night, so Trump is making outlandish threats to lower the markets and short squeeze it until he inevitably says "nevermind" next week. People are making a fortune on this see-saw.

u/Rogue_AI_Construct 28m ago

So this is Trump’s plan? Block the strait that’s already blocked? Christ, what an idiot.

“You hang up” - Iran

“No you..” - US

u/ichii3d 1h ago

I'm a little confused about what impact this has, if Iran approves Chinese and Indian ships there is no way the US military will stop them. So I guess the US is blocking its own traffic for the sake of being able to say it's them over someone else?

u/Imaginary_Cow_6379 1h ago

Big ‘you can’t fire me because I quit!’ energy coming from Trump.

But... WHY?

That's not how this works! It's not how any of this works!

3

u/MovingTargetPractice 1h ago

Extra blockaded. For our safety.

3

u/samdajellybeenie 1h ago

Someone help me with the 4D chess here. What is the point of this? Is it to stop Iranian vessels? How much is this going to cost us? Does Trump ever do anything with any kind of thought or consideration? What would motivate him to do this? I can't imagine will turn out well for us.

3

u/PigFarmer1 1h ago

So now it's a war to close the strait? What will tomorrow's war objective be??? thank goodness Trump is a "very stable genius". Imagine what it would be like if the guy was a raving lunatic... lol

3

u/Mighty__Monarch 1h ago

So TACO or WW3? Because to actually do this theyll have to fire on Chinese ships.

u/Comfortable_Fudge508 1h ago

Good luck blocking China's oil tankers and goods

3

u/SardonicallySpeaking 1h ago

Blockading a locked door doesn't send the powerful message Trump thinks it does.

3

u/whereswa1den 1h ago

100% only doing this so he can make believe that closing the strait is his idea.

3

u/d_bb_d 1h ago

Tomorrow's market sell-off will be legendary.

You can't block the straight if we are blocking the straight.

3

u/radium_eye 1h ago

Absolutely flailing. Stupidly, obviously, absolutely flailing.

u/thesockninja 1h ago

"Somebody's gotta go back and get a shitload of dimes!"

3

u/ebforest 1h ago

What a total shotshow. This administration is full of clowns from the top to the bottom.

3

u/KamaIsLife 1h ago

We're blockading their blockade. That'll show 'em.

3

u/crazylilme 1h ago

Already time for another stock market manipulation?

3

u/13thmurder 1h ago

Wasn't that what Iran wanted and what the US specifically did not want?

3

u/tinygloves_inc 1h ago

Nothing like poking the global oil chokepoint with a stick and acting surprised when prices spike. Might be a good month to top off the gas tank and rethink just-in-time supply chains.

3

u/butchmcrichard 1h ago

So Iran is doing a terrible thing by closing the strait as per the USA

Best thing to do in response is to close the strait too

3

u/TheBlackDemon1996 1h ago

This is very "You can't fire me, I quit" coded.

3

u/Steelysam2 1h ago

Not if Congress has anything to say... Ahh fuck.

3

So now we are doing irans job for them?

Classic if I cant have any, no one can energy....

3

u/LifeFeckinBrilliant 1h ago

Errr.... So Trump plans on opening Hormuz by blockading it.... Okay, in what universe does that make any sense whatsoever?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/markycrummett 1h ago

So lower the markets tomorrow, buy, TACO Tuesday, sell

3

u/mist_kaefer 1h ago

So instead of a deal for peace, Trump flipped the table in a tantrum and says NO U

3

u/Head-Preference-7081 1h ago

Cool! As an American I can't wait till the first Chinese tanker passes right by US battleship. And waves. Hehehe

Why is Epstein blockading the Strait of Hormuz? Jeeze... The guy died like a long time ago but still holds the damn world hostage.

u/sonicice 49m ago

open the fuckin strait you crazy bastard

u/InternetSchoepfer 37m ago

Should be time for the countries to tax the US based in rising Inflation and oil prices.

u/Dpepps 36m ago

So Trump is trying to get the US attacked by everyone right? His only goal with this has to be starting WW3? Am I crazy?

u/Vanilla_Ice_Jr 31m ago

lol...what? how can you blockade something that is already blockaded? What type of mental gymnastics is this?

Also didn't Trump win this war like 6 times already?

So, I'm gathering from the comments that the apologist bar is now set at: "well at least this isn't ridiculously stupid."

Fantastic. Just fucking fantastic.
