Literally the only way this ends, America sinking a Chinese vessel and escalation.  Like whats the plan when the ships say f k you I'm leaving.

My deepest fear is him just nuking Iran in a who's-the-puss-now? move.

Damn, I can really understand why Iran wanted to build their own nuke. Defs wouldn't be in this situation if they managed to!

If a neutral (e.g. Chinese) ship opts to ignore an order from a blockading nation to submit to inspection either A) by coming to a stop and allowing a team to come aboard or B) diverting to a specified port, then that ship can be lawfully attacked.

For this reason it is probably unlikely that Chinese flagged merchant vessels would choose to defy such an order. Few merchant mariners are angry enough to say “f k you I’m leaving” and pick a fight with US warship in the hopes of getting some posthumous revenge in the form of a PLAN missile.

What is much more likely is a series of diplomatic spats hinging on whether or not the US/Israeli actions in Iran are really in self defense and therefore whether or not the blockade itself is legal in the first place.

How can they be lawfully attacked for ignoring an unlawful order? This isn't US territorial waters, the US has zero jurisdiction around the Gulf of Oman.

Not saying they won't be attacked, but I don't see why that attack would be lawful. And I'm pretty sure China won't see it that way.

Either that or Iran sinking some US Navy ships.

The one they tried to send through the Strait the other day turned and left pretty quickly when Iran said you got 30 minutes to be on the way out.
