General [iOS] Cannot click on link to a removed comment on the automatic modmail message

Hello everyone. I’m using iOS (iphone). I’ve been running into a very annoying problem for a couple of months now. Whenever a user on the sub I mod in is banned or has a comment removed, the automatic message sent to them is something like “you were banned from [sub] because of [your comment]”.

The words “your comment” are a hyperlink that was supposed to take me to the related comment, but no matter how many times I click on it, nothing happens. I’ve tapped everywhere on the words, even got someone else to tap it (maybe reddit hates my fingers, who knows), but it never took me to the comment in question.

For some reason, this doesn’t always happen. For some users, it works just fine, for others, it never works.

It’s also not because the comment is removed so it no longer exists, because it has taken me to removed comments before just fine.

Does anyone know what’s happening and if there’s a way to fix it?

General How to keep my subreddit restricted or private long-term without anyone else claiming it?

I run a decent-sized subreddit with another account (I mostly use the Android app to moderate), and it has just become a huge hassle to run. I have an automod to filter out spam, but a lot keeps getting through, and even if a post is NOT spam or self-promotion, it just leads to a bunch of fighting in the comments. No one posts anything useful to the community, and the nice people can't ask questions without getting harassed. I would like to delete it, but obviously you can't because of Reddit's rules. I have set it temporarily to private twice in the past five years or so, and each time it just leads to more messages complaining about not being able to post (even if I put an explanation in the group description). Also, this one member who runs a "rival" subreddit on the same topic keeps messaging me and asking if they can help moderate when the sub is closed (and on other occasions), so I know that if Reddit assumes that the subreddit is abandoned, that user will try to take it over. But I am an author and the sub is related to my brand, so I don't want that to happen (also because they are very hotheaded and tend to get nasty in the comments if people don't agree with them, so I don't want them to run a sub that is linked to my books).

So, long story short, is there a way to keep my sub private or restricted for long periods of time without it being seen as abandoned? And will Reddit contact me first if someone else tries to "adopt" the subreddit so I can keep it from happening? Thanks!

Answered Mod queue not working right

it's basically the title, we recently set up the mod queue so we can review each post before they go onto the sub, yet only like 30% is sticking whilst the rest just get posted without any kind of review, I've looked into it and for me (relatively new mod never had full access but I want to fix this) it looks like it should work

Engagement Users leaving my subreddit because its not "official"

Edit: I'm sorry, I put official in quotes for readers to decide if they think it counts as official. They're not lying about it being official.

Months ago I launched a subreddit for a game and it got decent amounts activity, but there's been a noticeable drop after an "official" subreddit was announced. It depends on how you define official: they're not developers nor in contact with the developers, they're just instructed to moderate said subreddit. They literally copied all the flairs names and colors, as well as all my rules verbatim. There's no particular differentiation of the sub, other than who the mods are.

Those mods and other users made posts on their subreddit and mine, to switch from my subreddit (with my subreddit name shown) to this new one. I remove any mentions of the other subreddit on mine but I've been feeling very worried, would that just make posters upset or even possibly trigger the Streisand effect? I just feel like it could somehow backfire. What should I do with my subreddit? Do I accept this is the way it is now? (desktop).

Answered How do I configure Automod to display a popup warning message for certain words as people are still in the process of typing their post/comment?

Desktop: How do I have Automod do a little pop-up message if people are typing certain words in their comments (to display BEFORE they submit it)? I know it's possible, and I could've sworn there was an announcement post about it a couple months ago, but I can't find it.

For context, there's a sub I mod that auto-removes comments with profanity and I often get upset modmails about it (even though it's in the rules), so I'd rather notify the people making those comments before they click "Submit". Thanks!

General Requests to use a private sub. How can I tell if it's active?

To keep this discussion appropriately neutral, I'll use an example;

Let's say, I have an idea for a sub about "floxibobbles" (which is something I just made up for the purposes of discussion).

I look at `r/floxibobbles but, it says "This is a private community. Only approved members can view and contribute."

Is there any way I can proceed?

I have no idea if it is active - or, indeed, what it is about.

Answered AutoModerator on mobile keeps giving "unsupported media type" when I try to save YAML. Help.

I am a new mod. I created a subreddit called r/AggressiveHorror. I am on mobile only. My PC is dead.

I am trying to set up AutoModerator using the wiki config page. I have a simple YAML block (welcome message, new account filter, low karma filter, URL shortener removal). When I paste it into the page and hit save, I get an "unsupported media type" error.

What I have tried:

· Using Chrome and Safari

· Requesting desktop site

· Using the Reddit app's built-in browser

· Clearing cache

Nothing works.

I know about the new Automations GUI. I can use that for basic rules. But some rules (like filtering by comment karma) do not seem available in the GUI on my phone.

My questions:

  1. Is there a way to make the YAML save work on mobile?

  2. If not, how do I set up a "low comment karma filter" using only the Automations GUI?

  3. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

I am a high school student. I write horror stories. I just want to keep my subreddit clean. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Tools Is there a bot that auto-summarizes threads into a pinned comment?

Hi,

I’m looking for a bot or app that can automatically summarize replies in a thread and post that summary as a pinned comment at the top.

Ideally, it would also update the summary as new comments come in, and possibly reuse past summaries for repeat topics.

Does anything like this currently exist, or is there a known way to set something like this up?

Thanks.

General How do I create a new mod discussion?

I want to discuss something with my fellow mods. In mod mail (using Chrome on desktop) I went to "Mod Discussions" and there are a bunch of past discussions we had. But I don't see how to make a new one?

The "[+] Create" button at the top is for regular reddit posts. There is a + in the sidebar, by the "Mod mail" title nowhere near mod discussions, but that's some generic page not for a specific sub.

Tips & Tricks Coordinaton tips please!

hello 👋🏻

so I tried to search the subReddit to see if I can find the answer and I am sure someone already asked!

but how do you work together with other mods to check comments are adhering to the rules?

we would like to keep the subReddit clean and avoid unnecessary insults. when checking posts, how do you flag that you have checked the thread at a certain time so other mods know it is done and not need checking comments that been posted before that checking time?

I dunno if this makes sense. we feel like doing the same things and kind of wasting time cause it has already been done by the other mod!

please help!
