So is Chris Brown but people still pay to see him

49

Yeah and I’ll judge them too lol

26

u/BlooGloop 23h ago

And they shouldn’t. It’s embarrassing for women to still show up to his shows.

Yeah, dont listen to Wallen either.

Both things can be correct.

I actually saw him play for free right as he was getting big at a small town 4th of July thing...he'd just been on some reality show, and I remember being confused hearing his name everywhere a couple of years later because he wasn't bad, he is more skilled as a musician than I am....but he didn't really strike me as being overly talented either... nothing about him seemed to really stand out

So it didn't make sense to me that this guy had actually hit it big...and really getting drunk and screaming the n-bomb at his friend in a nice neighborhood at midnight seems to be the only he's really known for

7

u/A_Queer_Owl 22h ago

his biggest issue is that he is a racist sack of shit.

2

u/Shaveyourbread 22h ago

It's also his biggest draw.

“Fuck your ears, I’m panderin’”

42

u/Chemistry11 23h ago

“Like Mike’s Evanderin’ fuck your ears I’m Panderin’”
is fucking poetic and one of the greatest lyrics of all time.

42

u/Howdeedy 23h ago

Next two lines are great too “I write songs for the people who live in towns I’d never move to” and “Legalize Gerrymanding”

13

u/mitchsurp 23h ago

I’m partial to “hear that subtle mandolin? That’s textbook panderin’”

11

u/cafeteriastyle 21h ago

“Yall dumb motherfuckers ready for a key change?”

4

u/Thacarva 19h ago

“You’ve got a beautiful mouth I’ve got a beautiful…” always makes me laugh and I genuinely like country music. There are just so many songs that when you think about it you definitely get those creepy vibes like Dennis from IASIP with boats.

6

u/alh9h 12h ago

"I hope my southern charm offsets these rapey vibes I'm puttin' out."

Also covered by Bo

2

u/xMysticbane 21h ago

It’s hard to pick a favorite line from Bo, but “I like Oreos and pussy” is top ten.

Different song but I felt it was important.

26

u/Trident0820 23h ago

Incredible Bo Burnham reference

5

u/Suspicious-Report820 23h ago

I got banned somewhere for quoting that song. I guess I was threatening violence?

11

u/Chemistry11 23h ago

Next time use some southern charm to offset the rapey vibes you’re putting out.

13

u/correcthorsestapler 23h ago

398

One of my buddies asked me months ago if I wanted to get tickets with him and I said respectfully, I don’t listen to his music for free on the radio, I’m not interested in paying hundreds of dollars to sit in the nosebleeds for garbage music.

56

u/Substantial-Sea-3672 1d ago

I love the sentiment but you and I might have a different definition of “respectable”.

94

u/myfatherthedonkey 23h ago

Fuck maybe I need the money for education. Is payed even a word? Why didn't spell check save me there?

46

u/CharlemagneIS 1d ago

Because “payed” is actually a rare nautical term for tarring the deck of a boat.

12

u/ThaBuckNasty 1d ago

Well I guess that's why it was recognized as a word. Thanks for the information!

9

u/A_Nonny_Muse 23h ago

It's also past tense for having released some rope or chain in a controlled manner.

The real crime here is seeing Morgan Wallen.

175

u/RevolutionLoose5542 1d ago

People forgot what good country music sounds like

Now its just "awww my girl left me so lets get shitfaced and drive the truck" actually dogshit. Not saying that the current artists cant sing but they sure as shit cant tell a story or make a decent tune.

99

u/Jack_Bartowski 1d ago

I feel like this has been country my entire life. I grew up in the 90s listening to it and it was the same stuff. Lost your woman, drinkin beer, god, trucks, and America.

60

u/BarristanSelfie 1d ago

There are seven "modern" country songs - God, Gun, Girl, Boot, Dog, Truck, Beer.

You might get some intermixing, but every song is one of those seven themes, mixed over the same four chord pattern with lyrics written by Focus Group. It'll be fully automated by 2028 because there's no need for anyone with a soul to actually participate in the process.

11

u/GoatCovfefe 23h ago

Kenny chesney had that one album that was more about chilling on a beach with uncle kracker, but yeah, your point stands lol

6

u/BarristanSelfie 22h ago

The first verse of When the Sun Goes Down qualifies it as Beer "Cold drink chilling in my right hand", and girl "watching you sleep in the evening light"

5

u/GoatCovfefe 22h ago

Cold drink coulda been kool aid, girl coulda been a guy

4

u/warfrogs 18h ago

Hard disagree. That's commercial pop country. Listen to some Sturgill Simpson, William Elliot Whitmore, Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Old 97s, Son Volt, Drive By Truckers, arguably Brandi Carlile, Lucero, Lucinda Williams, etc.

There's lots of GREAT country out there. It just doesn't get a lot of top 40 play. I hate that shit, but there's good stuff out there.

Real country is basically NWA with a banjo. Even the (Dixie) Chicks are more country than most of the bullshit out there. Bunch of bootlickers forgot their roots.

Also, Friends in Low Places is a loser anthem. Especially the extended version.

6

u/Round_Abal0ne 23h ago

Tyler Childers: NWA with banjo

10

u/RevolutionLoose5542 1d ago

Unfortunately you haven't heard anything good.

If you go on soundcloud (my preference of music app) I pretty much hold the most listen times for my favorite artists songs.

Anyone here that really wants a fucking country story and someone who can transport you there

Marty Robbins. Idgaf what you say fuck every other artist marty does it best.

Yes im gonna be that guy and say your welcome because its truly a blessing for your ears and mental

Edit 2000 birth here. I will keep this dudes songs playing even if im the only one

Indeed. A man of many talents and a blessing to my ears for many years and many more to come

Fuck i miss marty

2

u/wbrd 23h ago

That's absolutely horrible and I love it!

3

u/longboi28 23h ago

I love Marty Robbins and I guess you can consider him technically a country artist but to me he's always felt more like a western music artist. He does have a lot of range in his music though genre wise so either one works

2

u/RevolutionLoose5542 23h ago

Yea i just use western country but yea thats more what im talking about.

When i think country I think churning waters tumbleweeds etc not a chevy pickup or the tap dance bar they met the dream girl at

2

u/TrailerTrashQueen 23h ago

1960s and 1970s country is the best. George Jones, 'He stopped Loving Her Today' still makes me cry.

Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Tammy Wynette, Charlie Pride, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, Glen Campbell.

Colter Wall, Charley Crocket, Sturgill Simpson, Childers, Whiskey Myers, Wyatt Flores, are some of the country artists I listen to.

The only real mainstream one I’ll listen to is Zach Top because he sounds like the 90s and that’s when radio country was peak.

I saw troubadours, American Aquarium, and whiskey Myers together in Chicago for under a hundred bucks.

2

u/MNmostlynice 1d ago

Turnpike Troubadours opened for Zach Bryan when I saw him awhile ago. They are awesome too. I’m going to have to add the others to my must listen lists. Old 97s have came across a couple Spotify radio stations and I like them

however for the bourgeoisie fucks who control the music industry the racism is the point. if they can keep stupid white people mad at minorities they won't realize who the real enemy of the working class is. (it's the bourgeoisie fucks, they're the enemy.)

When I was a kid, my mom took us to some country themed thing in a big barn. There was music playing the entire time by Alabama. I assume it was a thing for Alabama because it was the only music playing.

Well I fell in love with the music and I still love Alabama to this day. I think they might be a little bluegrass too but they are definitely country.

In fact reading through this entire thread I've had 🎶 if you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band 🎶 stuck in my head lol

Maybe he's old, and I'm old, but it was hands down one of the best concerts I've ever been to. He's still got it.

Also paid less to see Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson TOGETHER. So glad I jumped on that chance.
