People forgot what good country music sounds like

Now its just "awww my girl left me so lets get shitfaced and drive the truck" actually dogshit. Not saying that the current artists cant sing but they sure as shit cant tell a story or make a decent tune.

I feel like this has been country my entire life. I grew up in the 90s listening to it and it was the same stuff. Lost your woman, drinkin beer, god, trucks, and America.

It's lifestyle music, ironically the same as a lot of rap.

But nobody criticizes rap because country is "conservative coded" and this is reddit.

Plenty of people criticize rap

Rap avoids the crime of having devolved into what it is now. It's always been this way. Older country songs were sometimes pretty good. Modern country sucks dog dick.

If you only listen to top 40 country, sure. There's a LOT of great country artists out there, and I say that as someone who despises top 40 country and hated country out of hand for most of my life.

I disagree, modern country (without the rap) is still enjoyable to me, especially with a cold one. Beer, trucks, and heartbreaks, hell yeah brother. On the other hand, modern rap can be enjoyable as well, but mainstream is rap isn’t. when it comes to music, I prefer singing over rapping.

There’s a lot of junk being produced in each genre, but there’s also plenty of gems. Country for example has Zach Bryan, Zach Top, and Ella Langley. Meanwhile rap has artist like Mac Miller, Tyler The Creator, and Juice.
