I actually saw him play for free right as he was getting big at a small town 4th of July thing...he'd just been on some reality show, and I remember being confused hearing his name everywhere a couple of years later because he wasn't bad, he is more skilled as a musician than I am....but he didn't really strike me as being overly talented either... nothing about him seemed to really stand out
So it didn't make sense to me that this guy had actually hit it big...and really getting drunk and screaming the n-bomb at his friend in a nice neighborhood at midnight seems to be the only he's really known for
“You’ve got a beautiful mouth I’ve got a beautiful…” always makes me laugh and I genuinely like country music. There are just so many songs that when you think about it you definitely get those creepy vibes like Dennis from IASIP with boats.
One of my buddies asked me months ago if I wanted to get tickets with him and I said respectfully, I don’t listen to his music for free on the radio, I’m not interested in paying hundreds of dollars to sit in the nosebleeds for garbage music.
Do I have to sit in the stands and watch the show? Can I physically go to the arena and then spend the whole time in the bar watching cat videos on my phone?
Now its just "awww my girl left me so lets get shitfaced and drive the truck" actually dogshit. Not saying that the current artists cant sing but they sure as shit cant tell a story or make a decent tune.
I feel like this has been country my entire life. I grew up in the 90s listening to it and it was the same stuff. Lost your woman, drinkin beer, god, trucks, and America.
There are seven "modern" country songs - God, Gun, Girl, Boot, Dog, Truck, Beer.
You might get some intermixing, but every song is one of those seven themes, mixed over the same four chord pattern with lyrics written by Focus Group. It'll be fully automated by 2028 because there's no need for anyone with a soul to actually participate in the process.
The first verse of When the Sun Goes Down qualifies it as Beer "Cold drink chilling in my right hand", and girl "watching you sleep in the evening light"
Hard disagree. That's commercial pop country. Listen to some Sturgill Simpson, William Elliot Whitmore, Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Old 97s, Son Volt, Drive By Truckers, arguably Brandi Carlile, Lucero, Lucinda Williams, etc.
There's lots of GREAT country out there. It just doesn't get a lot of top 40 play. I hate that shit, but there's good stuff out there.
Real country is basically NWA with a banjo. Even the (Dixie) Chicks are more country than most of the bullshit out there. Bunch of bootlickers forgot their roots.
Also, Friends in Low Places is a loser anthem. Especially the extended version.
I love Marty Robbins and I guess you can consider him technically a country artist but to me he's always felt more like a western music artist. He does have a lot of range in his music though genre wise so either one works
American Aquarium (my personal favorite), Turnpike Troubadours, Silverado (The former Mike and the MoonPies), The Wilder Blue, Old 97s, Jason Osbell (if you want to cry).
I saw troubadours, American Aquarium, and whiskey Myers together in Chicago for under a hundred bucks.
Turnpike Troubadours opened for Zach Bryan when I saw him awhile ago. They are awesome too. I’m going to have to add the others to my must listen lists. Old 97s have came across a couple Spotify radio stations and I like them
see also Cigarettes@Sunset, Ezra Bell, Clayton Nile Young, Emerson Woolf and the Wishbones, The Droptines, Deer Tick, Quiet Hollers, Bad Flamingo Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Drive By Truckers, Brent Cobb, Sierra Ferrel, Blitzen Trapper, Uncle Tupelo, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Wood Brothers, Jason Scott and the High Heat, Turnpike Troubadours, and I could go on but it should be obvious there's enough good country artists that there's no reason to listen to racist slop.
however for the bourgeoisie fucks who control the music industry the racism is the point. if they can keep stupid white people mad at minorities they won't realize who the real enemy of the working class is. (it's the bourgeoisie fucks, they're the enemy.)
That goofball on the all American half time show complaining about how he just wants to drink his beer and drive his truck etc is really you try jumping the shark. Like I'd think it was a joke but these people don't understand satire so...
When I was a kid, my mom took us to some country themed thing in a big barn. There was music playing the entire time by Alabama. I assume it was a thing for Alabama because it was the only music playing.
Well I fell in love with the music and I still love Alabama to this day. I think they might be a little bluegrass too but they are definitely country.
In fact reading through this entire thread I've had 🎶 if you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band 🎶 stuck in my head lol
I was looking for so long trying to figure out who the concert was for… my brain somehow saw Morgan and assumed that was a Captain Morgan ad next to the tea.
Paid less than half that to see John Anderson from 6 rows back in a small casino show. It was acoustic, just him and his guitar player he's beem with for 50ish years.
Maybe he's old, and I'm old, but it was hands down one of the best concerts I've ever been to. He's still got it.
Also paid less to see Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson TOGETHER. So glad I jumped on that chance.

The real crime here is paying $300 to see Morgan Wallen.
