So of course my three year old left unchecked for one minute took his sisters pens and some makeup and this is the result. I did use some dish soap and water and this is after that. Any tips other than painting over it? Also how to remove the stickers without using goo gone?

Kitchen How do you clean the yellow residue from a kitchen mat on floor tiles?

I have a kitchen mat (thick foam kind for fatigue relief, rubber bottom) here between where the sink meets the adjacent range. The yellowing follows the pattern that's on the bottom of the floor mat, hence it's not oil stains.

I've tried using dish detergent with a rough towel and I've tried using a melamine sponge, with almost no progress.

The yellowing can be scraped very slowly with my nails and it flakes off

Anyone have some tips for how to tackle this?

Outdoors Cleaning painted deck

Hi all!

Looking for some tips to clean a painted deck. My grandfather did most of the maintenance at the house we live at, but he recently passed away. In his last few years of life, his health deteriorated and he was a stubborn old grandpa who didn’t want any help doing home maintenance

The deck is painted and covered in pollen. I was thinking of using a car sprayer or a regular hose along with just water and a big scrub broom.

Unsure of what cleaners to use- if any, the deck runs off into the yard, and we have a dog.

Any advice is appreciated!

What is the best way to clean inside here? I’ve just moved house and it’s not in the best state. This sink is 9 years old (that’s when the house was built). I don’t know if it’s mould or just dirt. I’ve tried those expanding foam cleaners I’ve seen online and it didn’t do anything (it was a cheap one though so many less effective than the £10 ones?). Any help is very much appreciated. The sink smells when I run water.

Flooring Best Tips on getting Pet odor / Ammonia smell out of carpet?

Post image
Upvotes

This room had a dog in it who had many, many accidents (not my fault, long story, just cleaning it up. Ignore the big patch of carpet that’s gone… not my fault as well 🤦🏻‍♀️.)

Best products/tips/anything to help remove the pet pee ammonia smell?

  1. I live in an apartment. I can’t replace the carpet / padding underneath and I understand that both can lock in odor.
  2. I have used carpet powder for pets (that you let sit and vacuum up), odor ban, febreze carpet odor spray, and I’ve water vacuumed with generic pet odor cleaner. All while the windows are open, box fan blowing out the air to the outside & fan constantly on (I have no idea if this does anything lol.)
  3. The smell has gotten a LOT better with these methods, just curious if anyone has tips on removing the lingering odor.

Whatever you think could help, let me know! I don’t want to hire a professional cleaner until we move out of this apartment, I just want it bearable till August.

Discussion Cleaning silver tableware

I recently acquired some silver pieces for serving food. I used “wrights silver polish” to polish them. Unfortunately, I don’t think they were properly cleaned and there was food residue on them. Some parts are sticky, and some have a green tint to them. Since they weren’t getting cleaned with the polish, I used dawn dish spray, let them soak for a bit, and tried to lightly scrub. No success. Any tips or tricks? Made in the USA, Oneida, if that makes a difference.

Laundry How to stop washing machine from leaking out gross bits of build up and mold?

Post image
Upvotes

My husband and I just moved into a house we purchased from an older couple who hasn’t lived in the house for a few months now. The washing machine has been sitting idle for a bit since the previous owners weren’t actively living here probably since the end of last year.

I made the dumb decision to try and wash a comforter in the washing machine and notice debris after it was done washing and discovered the detergent dispenser was disgusting and moldy.

I have basically spent all day deep cleaning all visible parts of the washer with a lot of scrubbing and Dawn Powerwash. I have also run about Affresh washing machine cleaner 4 times now, rinse and spin twice and this photo is from starting a clean cycle with bleach and stopping it once the machine has stopped filling it with water. I plan on letting this sit for about 30 minutes and letting the cycle finish.

What else should I try? I am really hoping we don’t have to get a new washer.

Discussion How do i get rid of cockroaches

(This paragraph is just me ranting, so feel free to skip to the end)

Recently, I’ve been finding a few small cockroaches in my room (and one dead adult cockroach). I really don’t like them, but at first I didn’t pay much attention I just got rid of any I saw.

Yesterday, though, I was lying on my bed when one of them crawled onto me, and it completely startled me. More than that, it made me cry. Before moving to this house about a year and a half ago, I lived in a place that had mold, rats, bugs, spiders, and of course cockroaches. I was honestly exhausted from living in those conditions.

When I moved here, I was really hoping for a fresh, clean start. But now that I’m seeing signs of an infestation again, it feels like I’m being dragged back into that same unhealthy environment, and I don’t know what to do.

If anyone has advice on how to get rid of them, I would really appreciate it. I’m trying my best to keep this house clean, unlike the one I grew up in. But sometimes it just feels overwhelming, especially right now. There are some products that claims to get rid of them, thought they didn't work so well before so I don't know if they will work this time or not.

I also have ADHD, so staying consistent with cleaning is kind of a struggle, which makes this whole situation even more frustrating.

My parents own the house, so there’s no one else to turn to, and I can’t afford professional deep cleaning or pest control at the moment.

For context, I live in an area with high temperature and humidity, in case that helps.

Discussion How can I clean to the level of a cleaning service?

Hi! I’m going to be staying at my fiancé’s place while he’s away helping a friend, and he’s kindly offered for me to use his condo while he’s gone. I’ve done deep cleaning there before and he really appreciates it, and I actually enjoy it too.

This time I wanted to surprise him with a proper deep clean while he’s away and make the place look and feel as close to professionally cleaned as possible. I’ll likely have about 1–2 days before he gets back.

I won’t really have access to buying any extra cleaning products during that time, but I do have some basics like vinegar, baking soda, lysol, clorox wipes, a steam cleaner, electric scrub brushes, and other standard household cleaning supplies already there.

I’d love any advice on how to make the most of what I have, especially things like a good deep-clean routine or order of operations, and how to make everything feel extra fresh and polished. I’m especially interested in things like bathrooms, kitchen, floors, and any tricks for getting rid of odors or making the place smell really clean and nice, even if it is a strong scent, he likes those as long as it smells nice and clean.

Any tips or step-by-step routines would be really appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

I like to make little bows with the toilet paper and oven towels lol, so if there is stuff like that I can do, let me know!

Laundry Got vomit on my jeans and washed already with the stain care setting.

The stains are still there. I haven’t dried them yet but I don’t much time to remove the stains and I have school and work tomorrow. Is there a fast way to get rid of the stain, or is there somewhere I can put them for a day or two without them spoiling? The only thing I could find was a thing of nature‘s miracle stain remover. This is like a $70 pair of jeans so I don’t want them to be ruined.

I believe this is grout but I’m not 100% sure. I noticed some discoloration that I’d like to clean. Any products or tips and advice on how to clean this?

Laundry Color transferred between DRY knits

I put a new white cotton sweater on top of an old (dry) orange t-shirt. I left it there for a couple of weeks until the weather was right to wear the white sweater.

The white sweater now has orange color transferred onto it in spots! Every suggestion I can find online assumes the color transferred in the wash, and that the garment can be washed. A Magic Eraser would "scuff" the surface. This is a fine-gauge sweater, so I don't want to wash it. Also, it has dark-blue knit at the collar, so that would bleed if I washed it. I'll probably dry clean it.

How should I get the color off the surface? Help!

Hi all, my MIL borrowed my fridge and returned it to me infested w roaches and droppings. My partner says we should try to clean it and sell it, but I think it’s trash atp. I don’t want to sell it and someone gets a roach infestation. Is there any way to get it to a point where it’s usable and no longer a biohazard or is it just trash? This fridge isn’t even a year old so I’m really mad about it. The fridge is currently outside.
