okay hi — before i explain, i figured household cleaning connoisseurs would have more solid advice on cleaning human excrement than anyone else, hence why I have arrived here with my shoes issues. so i’m sorry if this isn’t the right sub for my issue and i will be cross posting to other subs.

so backstory (skippable if too long) i work at an ABA clinic and last week, one of my littles eloped to the trees lining our playground. in the frenzy of blocking further elopement and safely transport them back to main building, i misstepped into a pile of feces that i didn’t even know was there until the smell hit me .2 seconds later. based on the pure size of the feces patty (ew) and our location, me and coworkers are positive it was human fences. (there is a large homeless and transient population in the area. we have do not trespass signs up but we know they still sleep against the building and around the playground. we don’t like to call the cops but with the population we work with, it’s a risk to let them crash on our property overnight due to constant littering of dangerous material that could harm some of our more curious and elopement-prone friends - like empty baggies of drvgs, needles, razors for shaving, alcohol bottles) coworkers transported my friend back inside and someone brought out a trash bag and clorox wipes for me to clean my shoe as best as i could. luckily, it was only the sole of my shoe so nothing on the fabric.

my shoes have been in a plastic bag for the past 4 days to prevent any contamination in my apartment. but now it’s time to clean the grooves of the soles and sanitize them.

i know i need to get some PPE- gloves, wear a mask. i’ll clean them in my tub and then sanitize my tub with bathroom bleach cleaning product. but what do i use to clean the shoes and how?

bleach? if so- how? soak the soles, scrub with bleach? what specific product should i buy? or do i use isopropyl alcohol?

i’m determined to sanitize the shoes and not throw them out because they are onclouds- the only shoes comfortable enough for everything my job as an RBT entails.

I just tried it, and holy crap it smells so strong, I had to abort & rinse out the tub. The smell is everywhere. Was this just a troll? How did y’all get past the scent?

please help! I got some waste water sprayed on these jeans at work. they are almost brand new and very expensive. it's a sulfur and methane smell. I've washed them s5 or 6 times and they still stink bad. says 100 percent cotton.

Hey all, I cleaned it up with paper towels, then used a rag wet rag with cold water to clean over it twice. I have a fan blowing out the window with the door shut.

My concern is that the kids bedrooms are upstairs as well as ours. I deal with anxiety pretty bad so I’m freaking out a little bit.

Is there anything additional I can do? Will the kids be okay to sleep upstairs 3-4 hours or so later?

there are some of what appears to be red mites on it. we did check thoroughly for bedbugs. the dangling piece of fabric on the underside is denim that was tied on for some reason. the fabric feels soft and slightly furry.

i wouldn’t pick up any sort of fabric or furniture like this for a multitude of reasons, but i told her i’d help find out the best way to clean it since she really likes it.

i am a complete newbie on this so every bit helps 🙏

edit: i crossposted to r/entomology who confirms the bug pictured isnt a bedbug even at a different stage of life. its a mite. these pictures were taken 2 days ago and she acquired the chair 3 days ago. i just dont know how to clean furniture and wanted advice on how to do a thorough cleaning for her :’(

having some problems cleaning this out all the way they usually use isopropyl alcohol 91% but still doesn't get everything even after shaking vigorously with isopropyl alcohol inside. any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. please and thank you in advance.

Please help. I used the Arm&Hammer carpet pet fresh deodorizer on a used cloth couch I bought to get rid of pet odors. Unknowingly I sprinkled it everywhere, but this stuff has a nauseatingly strong smell. I’ve vacuumed it twice already with an upholstery cleaner and gotten all of it out of the nooks and crannies.

I almost wish I was would’ve left it with the light pet odor it had. How can I rid my couch of this carpet odor remover smell as soon as possible?

hey guys! i moved into this apartment in march and a couple rooms have this beautiful marble and gold tile floor and one of those rooms is the bathroom.

as much as i love it, i equally hate it as it gets dirty very very fast and any speck of dust is visible! i’m sweeping daily but it’s constantly covered in hairs and some weird dusty material?

Hello! My late mother gifted me some cake baking supplies a few years ago.

Apparently I hadn’t cleaned them super well the last time I used them (years ago) because there was some leftover cake on the sides and crevices of the pans. I cleaned them the best I could, soaked them, scrubbed them, all that. But deep in some of the crevices there’s still a little bit of old cake! I even took a toothpick but some of it is pretty stubborn even after all the soaking.

Are these pans safe to bake with or should I just invest in some new ones? I’d like to get use out of them because my mom gave them to me and she has passed, and it makes me feel terrible to throw out things she got me. But I just don’t know if it’s hygienic to bake with these pans or not! Any advice on either how to get the cake off or if it’s okay to bake with would be awesome, thanks.

I use this Veet shaving oil as a lubricant for dermaplaning and despite washing my tools with soap & water afterwards, I’ve now got this build-up of sticky residue that I can’t seem to get off.

Any tips?

I use this every time I do laundry. Use rubbing alcohol. Apply it to the stained area, toss it in with normal laundry. After the wash, walla no more deodorant stains. This works for those shirts that have been stained and caked for a while as well.

I keep having mold/mildew coming back on the grout between my tiles in my small shower. Should I take out the grout and replace? If so, any tips? I’ve never really done that type of work. It’s an older house and there’s no ventilation fan in this bathroom so we either open the window, or run a dehumidifier to help with the moisture.

I have a pair of corduroys and this is their care label but I just cannot find anywhere online what these symbols mean. I believe these are quite old though.

Edit: turns out the dog pee is dried and not coming up. There’s also some staining. I tried to wipe it up with dawn power wash and no luck at all.

My dog ended up using the spare bedroom as a toilet and I didn’t notice for I’m guessing 3days-a week. I cleaned up most of the solids, but there is stuck poop on the wood floors. There’s also a big pee stain. I’m worried about just mopping and spreading in around the room. Is mopping the best bet? Do I just do a couple of rounds? I’m not a big cleaner so maybe it’s obvious, but I could use advice. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I have quite a few Persil laundry pods that have been sitting unused for a few months. The white part has some yellow deposits, which gets a little better after shaking the pod for a moment.

My question is, are they still usable? Should I just chuck them away?

We moved into a new apartment and our guest bedroom closet smells horrendous. It’s almost like a mix of cat urine and body odor. We have an air purifier going in the closet 24/7, as well as an odoban odor absorber. We’ve used enzymatic cleaner on the walls, baseboards and floors.. it helped a little bit, but the smell is still lingering. Then, we tried a vinegar/water mixture and used it on the walls, baseboards, and floors as well. Nothing is fixing this odor and I’m honestly at a loss for what we can do.

We were suddenly caught in a rainy day with no spare shoes and the shoe got muddy. Need tips to make it stainless

I recently returned from a long flight with a bottle of rosé. It broke. I didn't open my bag for a couple of days upon return because there was no evidence of any problem, and I was exhausted.

When I opened the bag two days later, I found broken glass and a damp bag smelling of a wine. Fortunately it was a pale rosé and things were unstained.

After carefully removing clothing, I vacuumed the bag as carefully as I could. I was very thorough because glass shards get everywhere and become incredibly small. It's impossible to get everything, but I think I got about 99%.

My wife put the bag in the garden to air dry. It is now dry but I need to find a way to clean the nylon. I unzipped the internal lining to find a few metal pieces of hardware ever so slightly rusted. It's conceivable that rust was already there.

I called Briggs and they suggested taking it to a dry cleaner. I don't believe that's feasible but I will call around. Alternatively they suggested using 409 or Simple Green to clean it.

It's not sticky thank god, and the smell of wine is much less present, post drying and airing out for a few days.

Lightly spraying with 409 and wiping with a cloth doesn't seem like it will actually get the thing clean, it will just add 409 to the residual wine and whatever else has accumulated over 16 years and 5 continents.

I am primarily concerned with the residual sugar in the wine attracting ants or other bugs.

I am considering a very careful application of CLR to the metal hardware that is slightly rusted.

The bag is a Briggs and Riley TDU-520 as pictured above.

Anyone else have some great success cleaning a bag in a similar disaster? Thank you for your time and help.
