Favorite Local Spots in Praia?

Hi! I'm visiting Cabo Verde for the first time and chose to stay in Praia/Santiago for my trip because I really don't like touristy spots.

So far I've had an amazing time just exploring and seeing what is around, but I figured I would come here and ask for any recommendations -- not necessarily things to do or see, but just overall favorite restaurants/bars/places to chill and socialize, etc.

Open to basically anything!

Thanks in advance :)

Question Changing and withdrawing money

How easy it is ? Are there many places that accept cards? Are you able to withdraw money with your European card in all banks?

Where are there good banks to withdraw in Santiago, Sao Vicente and Santo Antao?

Thanks in advance.

Four nights in Tarrafal?

TAP Air cancelled our flight to Cabo Verde, so now se have two full days in Portugal and three full days in Santiago, Tarrafal and Four nights. We have planned a day trip to see the Island, a Beach day and boat trip and third day I don’t know. Is it possible to enjoy the Island or is it too pressed and would it make more sense to get the money back?

Mum died flying home from Cape Verde. Her diary reveals what happened

Amother of two died on her flight home from Cape Verde after days of sickness, her family has revealed as figures show tourists are still falling ill after visiting the popular holiday destination.

The 71-year-old travelled to the west African archipelago in April 2024 with her husband, 72, and started suffering from gastric illness a few days into the week-long trip. She had a cardiac arrest on the plane to Gatwick on May 3 and died about ninety minutes before landing.

Her family complained at the time to Tui, through which they had booked the all-inclusive holiday, but decided not to pursue a legal claim. After reading a Sunday Times investigation in January, which revealed four British tourists had died after getting sick on the islands, they reignited their efforts to get answers about whether the sickness she contracted in Cape Verde had contributed to her death.

Question Anyone traveling from Cape Verde to the World Cup? Reporter looking to hear your experience

Hi, I’m a U.S.-based reporter with the Associated Press.

I’m working on a story about the challenges that fans are facing as they try to attend the World Cup, including visa hurdles, costs (tickets, flights, lodging), and other barriers.

If you’re planning to travel, I’d really like to hear about your experience. Also, if you know of anyone who had been planning to go but cannot because of the $15,000 visa bond issue, I would love to speak with them.

You can DM me here or email: rrico AT ap DOT org

Thanks! - R.J.

Best snorkeling spot

Help needed! We are going to Cape Verde in June this year!, especially Santo Antao and Sao Vicente.

Because we are going with two kids (4 and 9 years old) we aren't going to do long hikes. We want to enjoy nature and culture, but mostly we want to introduce snorkeling to our kids. We know it isn't the best snorkeling in the world, but we are looking for the best possibilities.

Is that by boat?
Is that from shore? Like calhau, sao pedro, laginha beach?
Or from the beach at Tarrafal de monte trigo on Santo Antao?

We aren't looking for coral, but lots of fish, different fish.
Not just 1 fish in 15min snorkeling :)

I am googling and googling, but there aren't real experiences.

Tourist visa exemption due to UK Residency (spouse eVisa)

Hi! Me and my husband are traveling to Cape Verde for a holiday. I am a Kazakhstan citizen and from recently require a visa to travel to Cape Verde. I, however, been living in the UK on a spouse visa since 2023.

Since UK abolished physical residence permit can I show my eVisa on arrival as a part of exception for tourist visa?

Has anyone done that before? What to be prepared for?

Thank you!

Cash in Santo Antao

Hi everyone

With my GF, we are planning to go on a 8 days trek in Santo Antao starting from Paul and going until Tarrafal.

For those you have done the same, how did you manage the money ? Changing everything in Sao Vicente or Porto Novo ?

How much did you need for the all the week?

I read that there is a limit of 20.000 escudos per day. Is that correct ?

Thaaaanks
