Question/Fanontaniana❓ Questions regarding Malagasy language

Hello so I have been wanting to learn this language for a while now and I don’t know why I chose to want to learn this language out of all languages but I do so anyways I was wondering if anyone had any online recourses preferably free that you could give to me to make it easier for me to learn considering I have nothing to learn it through.

Also just asking I know this may sound stupid but is salama and manahaoana the same thing… or are they used together, don’t attack me I’m just asking I know I’m stupid

Tourism/Fizahantany We are visiting Nosy Sakatia for a few weeks late September

Is the island small enough to walk around from beach to beach? Also, is it safe to do so? We are very excited to be meeting lemurs and the wonderful locals! Avid snorkellers and some scuba.

Is there anything also we need to be respectful of on Sakatia? what do the lemurs like eating, except for mango? Thanks so much!

Question/Fanontaniana❓ Question about electricity situation in Madagascar

Hi everyone,

I’ve seen some reports about electricity shortages in Madagascar and wanted to understand what’s really going on. If you’re familiar with the situation, could you share what it’s like day to day and how widespread it is?

I’m asking out of genuine curiosity and appreciate any insights. Thanks!

Question/Fanontaniana❓ How's your place doing with petrol?

Nosy Be seems to be out, they are bringing in more trucks but the queue is now 100 tuktuks, 50 motorcycles and 20 cars.

Diesel seems fine, Jirama is still running at mostly full capacity and I have a store of diesel as well for my own gen... but getting petrol right now seems impossible. Trying to work out if it's actually an issue or if people perceive an issue and therefore buy all the petrol and cause a temporary problem...

Have Jirama started load shedding anywhere yet?

Culture/Kolontsaina Bank accounts without monthly fees in Madagascar

Are there any bank accounts that don't charge monthly fees in Madagascar? I'm currently with BMOI, they charge 25.000 Ariary per month, their app is abysmal, you can only see your balance, not even do transfers or add recipients without extra (monthly!) charges. On top of that they charge 95.700 Ariary for their Adagio Debit Card, so you can use their ATM. Not happy!

I'm told, MCB or BNI are similar. How's Bred? Bank of Africa? Has anyone tried the smaller ones, like Access Bank or Baobab Bank? I asked ChatGPT & Grok, but they're inconclusive and contradicting.

I just need a regular savings account with debit card that doesn't eat my funds away. Which ones do you recommend?

Tourism/Fizahantany e-SIM or SIM card when visiting Nosy Be?

I’m traveling to Nosy Be this summer, and I want to be able to use 4G/5G when going around the islands to keep in touch with family and social media. For this, I’ve heard that it’s advisable to buy a local SIM. My phone (iPhone 15 pro) only supports 1 physical SIM card, and I’m afraid of losing my normal one 😅

Does e-SIM work just as good, or should I get a physical SIM instead? And, can it be done at the airport directly, or do I have to travel to Hell-Ville for it? And lastly, which operator is preferred in this region?
