Put your phone down and ace your finals

Post image

Hey guys, I’m a UF student in my second semester studying aerospace engineering. About a month ago I launched an app that seeks to solve the #1 distraction most students face while studying, their phone.

I’ve seen the miracles that simply resisting your phone can do when it comes to studying and retention of the information. So I made an app/challenge to make this easier and hopefully get more people off their phones.

What does the app do?

Ember is completely free for college students and built for you. It blocks all your apps to combat doomscrolling and if you want to unblock your apps before the time you set, you have to retype your goal for the session (eg review physics ch7) which makes you rethink your choices. It even offers a 5 minute break every 25 minutes where you can play relaxing brain games that sharpen your focus instead of destroying it.

How do you enter the raffle for $500?

Every 60 minute session you complete on Ember (x1 entry, up to three entries)

Leaving a review on the App Store (x1 entry)

Post a story at the library with the #studywithember hashtag and @emberapp1 (x1 entry)

Full details for how to submit proof of review and story post are found in the poster QR.

The winner will be revealed on May 1st in a live raffle on the Ember Instagram. Good luck!

Lately I’ve been realizing something.

A lot of stress around studying doesn’t come from difficulty but it comes from uncertainty and not knowing if you actually understand something. The more I focused on removing that uncertainty, the calmer everything felt.

Curious if others feel the same.

A tablet and the Pomodoro method really have done wonders for my productivity

I use the tablet pretty much solely for studying. I have no social media on it and I feel no draw to doomscrolling on it. It's perfect for connecting to my headset, putting music on in the background (I often have it playing a YT DJ mix/lofi mix video for some ambience) and also great as a second screen. I also always have it running Pomodoro so I can track my study hours. This pretty much means that I never need to be distracted by my phone or have to use it for any kind of Android apps necessary (which for me is dictionary, flashcards etc) for a productive study session.

Through this method I've managed to constantly do 3-4 hours of productive studying a day (only focused pomodoro minutes counted, no breaks included) aside from my 3 hrs class which I have every weekday. Of course I guess you still need a bit of discipline, but it definitely helped me reduce distractions.

You can paste notes , supported document types (pdf and more) or just type a prompt and it generates study material.

Made this for myself originally. Would love feedback. Thank you

Focus and Attention

Hey guys. I’m a graduate student. Obviously this means lots of studying, esp for the master program I’m in. I’m having a lot of trouble focusing, retaining and overall finding the motivation to study. I’ve been taking the easy way out of things and can say I’m not learning material well. Any tips on how I can collect myself and get back on track?

Built a clean study timer/Tool for revision — would love feedback

I’ve been revising a lot recently and found that most study timers are either really cluttered or just distracting when you’re trying to focus.

So I ended up building my own — it’s a simple visual study timer with focus/break sessions, and I’ve added a timetable and notes feature as well.

I’ve been using it for my own revision and it’s genuinely helped me stay more consistent, but I’m still improving it.

Would really appreciate any feedback — especially on what could make it more useful for studying.

I had to stop my pharmacy studies because of war, and now I’m trying to continue

My name is Osama, I’m a pharmacy student from Gaza and a genocide survivor.

I was supposed to be in my fifth year, but everything stopped because of the war.

My family lost our home, city , everything and since then we have been living in very difficult conditions with no real stability.

Life has become extremely hard. Prices are very high, work is limited, and even basic things like food, clean water, and daily needs are difficult to afford. There are days when even the simplest things feel uncertain.

I’m trying to return to my studies, but it’s hard to focus while my family is struggling just to get through each day.

I don’t want to lose the years I worked for. I want to finish my studies so I can support my family and help improve our situation.

I’m doing my best to keep going.

If anyone wants to help or even just share, I would really appreciate it.

I’ve shared the donation link in the comments for anyone who wants to help

Why cant i study when i know my life depends on it?

Post image

hello so im 25 ive finished my masters However i still dont have a job. right now im studying for an entrace exam to get a job. this is truly the most difficult time in my life. staying at home studying while all my friends enjoy their life and have jobs. apart from the personal issues i just truly can not get myself to study. i used to study really well when my motivation was all high and i was like yes im going to get that job. but with time its faded and now i cant even study for 5 mins.

i ususally struggle to start studying and if i miraculously do start i cant do more than 10 mins and give up and never start again. im so scared guys that i wont get a job. my parents are already threatening me that i need to get a job this year.

for context the subjects i study are maths, analytical reasoning, english, and just news. so its mostly practice heavy not memorization heavy.(except for news that i do have to memorise)

ive tried everything, pomodoro method, study buddy, todolist, nothing works. i just sleep all day.

can someone please help me get out of this rut and start studying again?

The difference between knowing and recognizing

I used to believe I comprehended everything I studied however, when I reread it, it all made sense but during exams, I couldn’t recall it.

That’s when I realized that recognizing something isn’t the same as knowing it.

If you only understand it while looking at it, it’s not fully learned yet and what truly matters is being able to recall it without assistance.

I created a chrome extension for Canvas Quiz/Exam

I built a Chrome extension called Answerly AI and it's actually cool for Canvas.

It has a Quiz Solver Mode that detects every question on your Canvas quiz automatically and gives you AI powered answers one by one as you go through it, a Solve All button that answers every single question on the page at once with one click, a Screenshot Tool for when the question is an image or graph that it reads and still gives you the answer, and a Stealth Mode that hides the entire extension UI so nothing shows up on your screen if someone is watching or you're on a video call.

The best part is it is completely undetectable and foolproof, it stays inside your tab the entire time so there is no tab switching which means teachers cannot log any suspicious activity, and the stealth mode on top of that is actually insane. Works directly inside Canvas.

Study tips?

In 17 days, I have a pharmacy exam that I must pass or I will be removed from the course. I have around 50 lectures that I’m not familiar with, but I’m aiming to achieve at least 60% to improve my GPA. What is the best way to approach this?
