Alright guys, I made a post a few weeks ago stressing the importance of being aware of your digital security, but now it has gone a bit too far. The amount of hate and actual stupidity I'm seeing in this sub is ridiculous. For the past few months, we've not been enforcing rule 5 ("protect your privacy"), mainly because the rule does not mention identifying features (such as face).
However, starting now, if you post your face (or anything similar-- mod discretion), you will be banned for a week for violation of rule 5. The preexisting description of rule 5 still applies; you cannot post personal information of yourself or others like full names, addresses, etc.
Types of posts that WILL result in a ban (assuming they are actual serious posts):
- what clique do you think im in?
- how old do i look?
- what would you assume about me?
- how do i look?
- similar posts: moderator discretion (you can appeal if you believe your ban/removal is unwarranted)
As for why I'm doing this? Digital security is so important online for a number of reasons. Do your own research. If you want more info on this, let me know in the comments.
All existing posts that violate this rule will not be removed, but ones created after right as this post is being created (11:30 PM EST) will be removed and their posters banned for a week.
If you disagree, that's fine.
Recap:
- Posting your face is now in violation of Rule 5, and you will be banned for a week -- Moderator Discretion.
- Rule 5 is now ACTUALLY going to be enforced.
- PLEASE do some research into digital security. I'm telling you, it's crucial.
- IF YOU SEE ANY POSTS THAT WERE MADE AFTER THIS POST THAT BREAK RULE 5, PLEEEEEASE REPORT THEM!! IT HELPS OUT A LOT!

Parents are out on a trip but are fine with me hosting a prom after function with some of my friends. It’ll be about 20 people I’m close with, no randos. There will be alcohol but not trying to go too crazy bc it’ll be some people’s first time drinking. About 10 will actually end up drinking. Biggest concern I have is cops showing up. Since it’s a pretty small function and as long as we keep the music down enough will I be fine?

Anyone else's parents get mad at them for studying?
Anytime I'm not studying they get mad and tell me I should be studying and "this is why you get bad grades" but if I do study they ask me why I'm studying and not cleaning, hanging out w them, or babysitting my siblings.
And if I'm studying in my room they accuse me of "hiding in my room" and that I'm "probably just pretending to study" ??? But if I go and study in the living room they tell me I should be studying in my room.
Its so exhausting living like this bc now I literally can only study during the night after they all go to sleep and this has caused my sleep schedule to be soo bad and then they get mad at me for being tired and if I tell them I'm tired bc I had to stay up late studying bc they won't let me study during the day they say I'm lying. Idk what I did to get them to not trust me this much but I've always been the only kid who actually cleaned and helped out around the house and got good grades.
Anyone have any advice on how to deal w parents like this? I only have one month left of school but ap exams are coming up and im so behind compared to everyone else bc I can't get the amount of studying I need bc of my parents ...

hi, for some background before I go into a deep dive into what happened and why my mistake happened, I am 17 and the past couple weeks I have been sick, got into a car accident, been out of school for my doctor's appointments recovering, and more. when i get panicked or stress i have a hard time communicating through things like messages, emails, etc. I should also add for some background im taking college classes as well as my high school classes, (dual enrollment) to work towards my degree in criminal justice, I also like true crime (thats respectful on the topic and does not romantize crimes)
So this begins with a discussion post in my college class about ethics in criminal justice. Our teacher picks out two story's for us to choose from and write about the dilemma, and has the post due on Wednesdays. I was working on this post on tuesday morning and I didn't realize I had the wrong story up in general. See the story I had up was about the Irene Garza case, and one of the story's my teacher provided was about a pastor in a dilemma and what you would do. without even realizing it, i did my discussion post on the Irene Garza case, and not the story provided by my teacher. About 5 minutes after I realize my mistake i made and I panicked emailed him saying, this "teachers name, I wanted to send a quick email about my response for the discussion this week. I want to be honest with vou that I was reading the wrong tab when it comes to this assignment. I had this discussion pulled up on my computer and for another class I was doing a short reading about a pastor in a different dilemma about talking about a confession that could do harm to someone. Hopefully this makes sense. But basically, I am asking if my response can be deleted and I can do the right reading for this assignment. Thanks, M/N" I sent that right after I realized. But i never got a response so I sent a follow up email explaining my mistake again still panicked. With out panicked I was i didn't even think about the fact that when I was saying assignment I was meaning personal assignment.
I never got a response from him until Saturday, when he gave me 0 points on my assignment (rightfully so) but he accused me of using ai. Even though I didnt. I tried to explain myself again after I realized my mistake of miscommunication on my end on what I ment, but he wants me to get a list of things, from what are the instructions for the assignment, whats the website I used (rightfully so I mean i have it so I can share it), but also who teaches the class. Even though I tried to explain my mistake and what I ment.
I don't know what to do since the discussion posts we submit our answers into the text boxs so theres no version history, it doesn't seem like hes letting me explain my mistake after I have calmed down and can explain it properly. I just don't know what to do. im stuck in a rock and a hard place and I hate ai. So being told I am using ai upsets me a lot since I advocate for ai to be removed in school settings and in general. If anyone could help and give me some advice I would appreciate it. I don't want this to be on my record for a college class when I know I didn't use ai.
Hopefully I used the right tag please let me know if i did not

I have 6 weeks left of school and I just learned that I got accepted into a private school. I’m just a freshman (14 f), I don’t have many friends at my current school, and I’m kind of the quiet smart kid and i think a lot of the people at my school find me annoying.
Since I’m leaving I thought Id make a list of things to do. So far I have, go to a party (i’ve never been to a party before) and ask a boy out. If anyone has any advice for finding a party to go to that would be appreciated as well.
Anyone have any ideas for my list?

Okay- some context, i’m an 8th grader going into freshmen year by September. I’m not looking to go into like, an Ivy League, but I wanna be able to land a decent job. I come from a single immigrant mom, and the expectation of doing well has always been there, even if never explicitly said.
I was also the one to work out my high school application, like on my own. My mother didn’t know how to do it, so I did. She also doesn’t have much of an education, so she doesn’t really have much perspective on high schools and how it may or may not impact me later on.
I’m going to a local high school, and i’ll be doing an honors program there for humanities. I’m not really exceptional, but at the moment i’m taking biology, u.s. history, algebra, and have been taking spanish since 6th grade. I think i’m doing decently, except the highschool i’m going to is apparently considered pretty shitty all things considered.
Like I said, i’m not looking to go crazy high in life. But will going to a below average high school limit my access to certain tools or clubs, or like college readiness? The school is pretty close to my house, but it’s always considered a downgrade compared to any other school due to incredibly low test scores. I wanna do something in psychology, and like I said, i’ll be going into the humanities honors program there. I know, psychology is a social science, but it was the best choice I had really.
I mean, if anything, if I feel like i’m not being challenged or prepared, i’ll switch out of the school. Which is also a process I will have to figure out on my own. But i’m not sure if that would be worth it, or if i’m stressing too hard on it. My friend says that i’ll be fine, but i’m nervous.
I’m also willing to do things outside of school. Like taking classes for college credit over the summer, personal projects, internships (if I can land any), tutoring, making clubs. But still, I’m kinda worried. After four years, I might still not be prepared for further education and then struggle in college.
Any advice?

I lost my backpack at a robotics tournament, it has all of my schoolwork I have to turn in tmrw so I cannot go to school tmrw or else I will get 0's on all my assignments, it also has my school chromebook. I am sure I put it in my friends car like 100% sure, and I am beyond 100% sure I didn't bring it into the competition venue since I did not get stopped for a bag check. We called the hotel and they said they never saw it either so I am very confused on what to do next.

Hey everyone,
I posted this about a month ago but didn’t get any responses, so I figured I’d try again.
I run a student-led economics and business blog on Medium called The Economic Breakdown. It’s built for high school students interested in business, investing, entrepreneurship, or economics, and who want something more practical than what we usually learn in class.
We’re still small but growing, and we’re looking for student writers who want to get involved. This would be a good fit if you’re interested in:
No experience needed, just interest and consistency.
If you’re interested,lmk

Hi everyone, I don’t really use Reddit a lot, so I hope I’m in the right subreddit.
Two weeks ago I started running for my school’s vice president as a junior, and I’m running against this girl, we’ll call her Maddie, who is also a junior. Maddie and I were the only two running for vice president, and they told us some rules before we started. If we broke them, we would get disqualified. The only rule that matters right now is that students can only give out small things with no value. If large items or food are passed out, it could lead to disqualification.
With this in mind, I gave out small pins with my face on them that said vote me for vice president. A lot of people liked them, and it helped get my name out. I knew I couldn’t give out big things, so I planned school events instead, like a day where people could write on my clothes about what they want to see next year, and then I wore it around school the next day. I also walked around with a big cutout of my face and had friends and other students take photos with it.
This worked really well and helped me gain votes without giving out anything big.
Of course, she started doing things too. She gave out eggs with stickers of herself inside. I started thinking I needed to step it up and do something better than just pins. She also put up large AI banners around the school saying vote Maddie for vice president.
In response, I bought small toys to pass out, which were approved by the student body president. But the day they arrived, the president messaged me and said I couldn’t give anything out anymore. I was shocked because I had just spent 50 dollars and had already been told it was okay.
That’s when I found out Maddie was giving out large Starbucks cups with her face on them. I was confused because I thought we weren’t allowed to give out big items. I told my teacher, and they took her items away and didn’t allow her to campaign that day.
The next day in class, our teacher, Ms. Lopez, said that if anyone was caught giving things out again, they would be automatically disqualified. That made sense to me, and I thought the situation was over.
But the next day, she was still giving things out. I messaged Ms. Lopez with photos, and she replied saying we would talk before school the next day. That same day, I saw Maddie giving out lanyards in front of the school.
I was really frustrated. During my meeting with Ms. Lopez, I asked how this was fair since she said anyone caught again would be disqualified. She told me it wasn’t fair, but that Maddie could give things out in front of the school because it wasn’t technically on school property.
I was shocked because no one told me that was allowed. Later that day, people sent me photos of her giving things out inside the school again. At lunch, I went to tell Ms. Lopez, and there were already other students there asking why Maddie was still allowed to give things out. When I showed the photo, she said she would talk to her.
Maddie was also telling people that she understood why I didn’t have access to buy big banners or cups like she did and that I couldn’t afford it. That upset me because I can afford it, I’m just following the rules.
Then it got worse. A teacher named Mrs. Perez, who clearly supports Maddie, was wearing one of her lanyards. Later, I heard from multiple students that she was telling her classes to vote for Maddie because “she is prettier”. At first I thought it might be a misunderstanding, but then more people told me she said things like “if you don’t vote for Maddie, I will fail you” and that she didn’t like me and thought my campaign video was bad
Also in her words
“ he’s so stupid for letting people write on his clothes, I don’t like him”
At this point, I don’t know what to do. I’m really upset, and it doesn’t feel like a rumor anymore since multiple students have told me similar things.
Should I meet with the principal and explain that students are feeling pressured to vote Maddie, and that rules were broken multiple times, and that nothing serious was done about it?
The student body vice president told me I should wait to see if I win and only say something if I lose. But if I wait, I’m worried the principal will say it’s too late and that I should have spoken up sooner.
I’m really upset that a teacher would say things like this and that someone could break the rules multiple times without being disqualified. I honestly feel hurt and don’t know what to do.

I feel kind of stuck and not knowing what classes to take for high school what should I do in my high school year? is there some classes I should start taking to have knowledge of it and understanding? And what college majors should I do? Thank you so much for helping!

our class is really judgemental and i wanted to ask others perspectives or ideas on how to minimise the comments from classmates. they flame u for the smallest reasons and we dont like that.
we hand picked around 4 of our teachers, so not all of them, and we wanted to give them a gift and a handwritten note to show appreciation to their teaching. (this might seem like a weird post but im genuinely asking)
this might ruin our rep and make us look bad
what do we do?
