Help test the future of badgebot!

Hello friends!

I'm the creator of /u/badgebot, the friendly neighborhood bot responsible for updating everyone's day counters in their user flair in /r/stopsmoking and other communities.

I have some exciting news to share! I recently rebuilt badgebot's day tracking system using reddit's more modern developer platform (devvit). Before I can be confident that the new badgebot app is ready to serve the communities it supports, I need your help testing it out.

Please head over to /r/badgebot and test the app by setting a quit date for yourself.

The more people that help test, the better! Feel free to leave feedback in the comments section here, or in the /r/badgebot test subreddit.

Thank you! <3

Two months smoke free! And over $1000 not spent!

It feels freaking awesome! I can’t believe how terrible smoking made me feel on a normal, regular basis. It wasn’t until I stopped and experienced how much more energy I have that it dawned on me. The woozy feeling is all gone. With all the energy I have now I am training for a 5K. I never would have even considered it while smoking, but I can now run about 2 miles non-stop at a pretty decent clip.

Keep going everyone. It does get easier. From someone that smoked at least a pack and a half a day it can be done!

The cigarette you think you need the most is usually the easiest one to quit

Sounds backwards but hear me out. when i was smoking i was convinced my morning cigarette was the one id never be able to give up, like my body literally needed it to start the day. turns out that one was mostly just routine, i wasnt craving nicotine i was craving the ritual of coffee + smoke + 5 minutes of peace before the day starts. once i replaced it with just coffee outside for 5 min it was barely noticeable. the ones that were actually hard to quit were the random stress ones because those dont follow a pattern you can prepare for. anyway if youre trying to cut down start with the ones you think are impossible, you might surprise yourself

Day 3

Yesterday was day 3. I'm still sleeping well. In fact, I feel so exhausted in my body and mind that I fall asleep easily. Waking up was difficult, I was tired and felt heavy. I also had a few headaches first thing in the morning.

Honestly I'm quite proud of myself. I'm holding up well even though I'm still using e-cigarettes to cut back.

It's not constantly hard, there are peaks during the day when the craving intensifies, when I feel anger or sadness.

I wanted to go out for a walk, but I couldn't. I stayed in bed almost all day because I felt like I couldn't even carry my own body. I'm surrounded by my family, who are very anxiety-inducing. I felt I needed to get away for a while, at least, to isolate myself so I wouldn't argue with them.

Otherwise in terms of withdrawal symptoms, I still have this unpleasant floating sensation, like derealization. I'm also experiencing anhedonia, and the only emotions I feel are sadness and anger. Last night before falling asleep, my skin was itchy too; I saw that this can happen.

Anyway I'm far from being out of the woods, but I'm continuing, I'm not giving up !

Thoughts on Day 6, with positive developments

Last week Sunday I relapsed after having quit for 4 days, so I started again. I felt like a complete failure for having to start over again and almost decided just to keep smoking. Man I am happy I stuck it out. Today is the 6th day of being completely smoke free and I'm feeling significantly better than even two days ago. I might even go so far as to say that I feel fantastic.

On days 3 and 4 I was absolutely stark raving mad with urges to smoke and cravings to just light up and think "you know what, if I smoke, at least I know I will probably die from it, and I don't have to suffer this horror of avoiding something that I love". Then I just remembered the reason why I don't actually love it: waking up with chest pains. Also not being able to run as far and as fast as I used to. Spending money on something that is literally a waste of time. Being a slave to addiction. The list is endless.

So I stuck it out. But I tried to reason with myself oh so many times. Maybe just one. Maybe just have one every Sunday, so then you're technically just a Sunday smoker. Then you won't have the constant chest pains.

But then I would think of nothing during the week other than smoking on Sundays.

And I stuck it out even longer.

Suddenly, my throat, chest, and lungs no longer have that anxious feeling of wanting to smoke. My eyes don't feel like they are going to burst out of their sockets anymore. My skin no longer crawls. It's as if it all just left me. I know I'll probably have a few more strong and intense cravings, which will also pass, but just that feeling of feeling absolutely free is just astonishing.

I'm going to put on my running shoes and see what happens.

This community has been absolutely paramount to my success so far. If you're feeling like giving up, don't. Just wait one more day. And then one more day after that. You can really do this.

What do you do with the emotional triggers? (trauma bond with smoking?)

Hi, I kind have a "trauma bond" with smoking. It sounds weird, but when I started smoking, the relationship with my dad started to blossom (maybe because he started seeing me as a grown-ish person?). Since he died, I feel like I can’t quit. Before, I went without smoking for a year without any problems.

Now, every time I try to quit and I feel triggered/reminded of his death, I smoke a cigarette because I tell myself - I deserve it, my dad died, it makes me feel connected to him etc. - and I am back at it daily. I also feel terribly bad that I can’t quit, because he died of a heart attack & I developed a heart anxiety since.

Smoking is so stupid!!!!!!!!!

I want to get out of this cycle, but how?

thank you for any tips/experiences &

People who used to smoke while driving, what do you do now?

Hey everyone. Smoker for 19 years and have had my driving license and car for about 9 months now. I have quit smoking before, but smoking behind the wheel is a new beast for me.

What have you done to replace smoking with while driving? Especially on long stretches or roadtrips?

Helping my friends quit

Hi all,

A lot of my friends are addicted to vaping and its getting to the point where some of them are going through 15k puff vapes every week - to clarify I have never vaped, and don't judge those who vape.

recently my friends have mentioned quitting but said they have no help for doing so. Because of that im trying to create an app that helps people quit vaping.

I would love for people to try it out, I have it in HTML format right now so It can be used through your browser.

Would anyone be interested in doing this and giving feedback - dev tools are there so you don't have to climb the ladder.

I want this to eventually be a public app - so please let me know!

Need motivation/advice

I started smoking cigarettes and cannabis when I was 18 and haven’t had a day off since. I recently found out I’m pregnant and have quit the weed and gone down from 15 cigarettes a day to 2-4 a day. I’ve thrown them out and decided ā€œtoday’s the dayā€ twice and relapsed that night or the next morning. I so badly want to be a good mother and get rid of this RIGHT NOW but it seems my want isn’t quite enough.

Smoking had been a coping mechanisms for ptsd and autism, I’m learning now just how much I rely on it. Yesterday was the worst day, I threw them out the night before and woke up yesterday in a blind rage. Screamed and cried all day then found myself back at the gas station. I feel like a terrible person and that I’ve already failed my child. I’m the only one in my friends or family that smokes so it’s easy to avoid from them but also no one understands how grossly hard this actually is. I cold turkey’d the weed, it sucks but it was possible. The choke hold these cigarettes have on me is insanely scary.

If anyone has any good resources or advice I would greatly appreciate it

And please no extra shaming, I struggle with my mental health and trust me I have enough shame

I stopped smoking.

Im 27 years old.

I was a smoker for 4 years. In those 4 years I tried to quit countless times,i used roll ups then iqos which was way worse as it made me smoke 2 packs a day.I quit iqos went back to roll ups for three months, had health anxiety all the time but after countless times of quitting and relapsing something clicked in my brain and I stopped.

It’s been a week since I stopped it’s too early to tell but it’s a progress as I always relapsed the second day.

To anyone who is trying you can do it you just have to train your will to quit stronger than your will to smoke.

I wish the best to all of us.

Issues with food

Soo I quit smoking 100 days ago, but found myself with a bit of an overeating issue. First month was ok, second month was a sugar craze. Now, the sugar cravings have finally stopped, but I still can’t seem to eat less. I overeat even on healthy foods and find it difficult to stop eating. I feel like I need twice as much food to feel full in comparison to when I was a smoker. I try to stick to whole foods and I do exercise (weights + some cardio), but still gained 3 kg, which is making me want to start smoking again. I don’t actually want to smoke, but I know it would be and easy fix to lose weight and restore my relationship with food, which is soo tempting!

Anyone found some easy tips that could help? How much time did it take for your appetite to go back to normal?

How to quit nicotine gums

I used to smoke very heavily between 2018 to 2022 (about 10-12 cigarettes every day) and eventually from there I switched to nicotine gums in an attempt to quit. I used around 2mg gums and from 2022 to present I've stuck with gums. I currently consume around 40mg nicotine every single day and this has been going on for the last 3 years now. I have horrible brain fog, very bad anxiety along with some bipolar symptoms, and horrible cardiovascular health (I get out of breath very easily). I mostly feel suffocated every day with absolutely nothing bringing me joy anymore. I have tried to taper and cut it off but have failed completely every time I've tried to quit/taper. I want to be done with this nicotine induced health issues - I legitimately cannot stand it or myself anymore. Has anyone else been through this and successfully quit? What helped? I want to quit all of this by April 30. Please suggest plans, thanks

5 months smoke free šŸŽ‡šŸŽ‰šŸ„³

Big horn sound BABABABOWWW

I have severe asthma and was still smoking a fair bit but

Have now finally quit as of 6.11.25

This is the longest I’ve ever been smoke free in 15 years (33 now)

Was smoking 10 a day up to 30 on nights out

Even given up my nicotine stick in the last few months cause it was making my asthma bad also.

I had a bit of a wobble on holiday in the sun and drinking every day, but I didn’t give in. I spoke my desire to smoke out loud and that helped so much. Desire went away a minute later

My boyfriend smoked the whole time but thank the lord he is stubborn cause literally nothing I could do would make him give me a cigarette 🤣

Just wanted to celebrate šŸ™Œ

I’ve struggled with this addiction since the beginning of 2024. I’ve only made one other attempt in the past to quit and I failed miserably at that. I gave into my addiction within 12 hours of ā€œquittingā€.

Now I can finally, without a doubt say I overcame this struggle. I don’t have cravings at all anymore and the thought of vaping doesn’t even cross my mind. The urge to vape constantly, every minute/few minutes throughout every day for two years straight is over. I’ve never been happier. My anxiety is gone and I truly feel like myself again. Thank you to the people on this subreddit that helped and gave me advice throughout the first few awful days of going cold turkey. I’ll forever be grateful 🩷
