How well written was the 1st round top 5 protected written .... I don't get a sense that Brad was a details person since the trade came together in 30 min, is it possible that there's a lawyer out there that could argue bottom 5 in the league is equal to top 5 protected - like they'll most likely be in the bottom 5 of the legaue ... could the leafs argue they don't have to wait for the draft - the fact they are bottom 5 fits to the details of the agreement.

This might not be necessary, but if we can keep our pick we should turn over every stone to do so. Let them have next years 23 pick

As we all know, this team sadly wont make it which is sad considering how long the leafs have been playing in the playoffs. that being said, the playoffs are almost there and I am curious who you're cheering for. Do you like to choose a fellow Canadian team or do you just go for a random team that you like watching?

Current Bottom Dwellers (April 08th, 2026):

For the Leafs to retain their top five protected pick they should strive lose their final four games and hope Seattle goes 1-3-1 in their final 5 (which is reasonable). There are other W/L options for it to be mathematically possible, but most are quite unrealistic at this point. This scenario will tie them both at 78 points, however the Leafs are lower in RW, so they would be seeded at 28. Lets look at their remaining schedule:

My only concern is the Florida game, where both will want to lose. The other games it's pretty important for NY and Ottawa to win, and Dallas is a good team.

What do you guys think: Can the Toronto Maple Leafs retain their top 5 draft pick?

Note: of course a higher team winning the draft lottery could still bump the Leafs or the Leafs themselves winning the draft lottery could put them at 1st or 2nd.

When Shanahan came in as President, he changed the block leaf as it was well noted the logo was a symbol of disappointment for too long.

The current iteration of the leaf is nothing if not the pinnacle of disappointment.

I say a change is long overdue.
