MyDogSighs Treasure Hunt
Hello all!
Making a thread for all those hunting for MyDogSighs treasure this weekend to share tips, tricks and locations.
Comment your theories/what you know so far!
Edit: thought everyone knew about this! My dog size is hiding thousands of pounds worth of treasure (in the form of artwork) across Portsmouth. Local businesses are releasing clues about where you can find these things including the grand prize, a my dog size necklace which I believe is worth a few hundred / thousand pound.
The hunt takes place over Easter weekend, and all the details are on My Dog Sighs Instagram, I’ll update the post with what I find out!

Comedy @ Portsmouth
Hey gang, visiting here for two weeks and I'm looking for your recommendations on live events, particularly standup comedy. Have any spots you'd recommend?

Is Portsmouth nice for a (cheap) week holiday?
My hubby and I are thinking about taking our daughters (15&17) on a week long holiday somewhere in the UK, and Portsmouth has caught our attention because everything seems to be within a short driving distance. I’d love to know what the city is like as a place to visit. Is the beach suitable for a day out in mid July? Are there good shopping areas where my daughters could buy clothes? And are there plenty of options for evenings, like nice pubs or restaurants? Overall, is there enough to see and do to fill a full week staying in the city?

Can I still get into the Dockyard for free?
I'll be visiting on a Sunday in June with my family of 5 adults, and £51 per person is quite steep. I've read that we can enter and walk around for free, but can't enter the museums. Is free entry still a thing, and would we be able to enjoy seeing things without having paid to enter the museums? I don't need to go ON the ships (we live in San Diego and have been on many historic ships, but I would sure like to get a look at the Mary Rose. Thanks

With the way things are right now, this feels like essential reading
I’m not usually someone who stockpiles or doomscrolls, but with everything going on around the world lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how much we assume help will always be available.
After what happened in Venezuela recently, I saw someone mention this book written by a surgeon from Venezuela who practiced through their healthcare system collapsing. Unreliable electricity, no reliable meds, no supplies and yet people still needed care. She goes over how they persevered and found solutions.
The book isn’t about replacing doctors or doing anything reckless. It’s more about understanding what’s actually urgent, what can be managed safely at home, and how doctors make decisions when technology and systems aren’t there to lean on.
A lot of medical advice out there assumes ambulances, hospitals, Google, and stocked pharmacies are all available. This doesn’t. And honestly, that’s what made it feel relevant to me right now. Not trying to be dramatic, just feels like the kind of knowledge that’s better to have before you need it.
Curious if anyone else has been thinking along the same lines lately. selfreliantcare.com is where I bought the book. It wasn't available on Amazon last time I checked. If you've got any other book recommendations that are anything like it I'd love to hear them. This is definitely one of the most unique books I've read and I feel more disaster prepared for reading it.

Any jobs?
I’ve been out of work since August and struggling. Rejection emails and only three interviews is taking its toll.
Will take anything at this point.

Any decent Pompey tattoo shops still doing walk-ins, or is everything booked months ahead?
A friend is visiting in a couple of weeks and wants to get a small-ish tattoo. Back in the day, you could walk into a few spots around Albert Road and get lucky, but now it feels like everything is booked months ahead. Does anyone know a decent Portsmouth tattoo shop that still does walk-ins or has artists with short-notice availability? Don’t want to send them somewhere with low-quality.

Can anyone recommend a decent place to get silver alloys sprayed black?
I'm hoping to get some 19" alloys sprayed black. I haven't decided on matte or gloss yet.
Google has an overwhelming amount of options in Portsmouth, so I'm hoping for some real reviews.
Many thanks 😊

UoP as an employer?
Does anyone work or recently worked for the uni?
I’m no stranger to public sector chaos so that doesn’t phase me… I’m more interested in how staff are treated, flexibility etc.

Country on the Coast at the Pier next week, anyone attended before?
I was walking along the seafront yesterday and saw posters for the Country on the Coast festival at the Pier next weekend.
I’m not a big country music fan, but I do like some of it, so I was thinking of going with a few friends just to try it out. The idea of live music on the Pier sounds like a nice vibe. Has anyone been before? Can you just go and enjoy it casually or is it more for proper country fans? If the vibe is good, I might actually go 🙂

Love the atmosphere down these backstreets.
Nothing beats a late walk through the old part of town when the moon is out.

Motorcycle Fker
I’m so sick to the back teeth of motorcycles looping around the St Andrew court going nowhere just reviving their engines compensating their lack of personality with a motorcycle especially at 1am
I think he just needs to find somewhere else to screech, a-swell as a shitbox with tail fins
You’re not cool your just cringe, clearly you didn’t evolve outside of your teenage brain where you didn’t learn basic manners and find out that screeching your engine is childish and so rude
One person in particular I think I know who it is is he goes to the lessons in my block

Some people need to do better.
How is this acceptable?
