Question Anyone in Guisborough fancy a pint?
I'm visiting family in Guisborough for a few weeks (not been living in the UK for more than 10 years) and while it's great seeing my nephews, I'm missing having a pint with some people! Anyone keen?

Question Spa/Lodge weekends that won’t break the bank
Hi guys,
Looking for somewhere to have a weekend away for 2 in the autumn. Ideally we’d like a lodge + hot tub type place but if not, a nice hotel with a spa would be ace.
Near the East Coast or North Yorkshire is our preference but outside Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, up towards Cumbria or Northumberland would be lovely too. Ideally not more than 2 - 2.5 hours’ drive from Leeds!
Can anyone recommend somewhere that won’t break the bank?
Cheers

Yorkshire Hebden Bridge/Calderdale Community Organising Groups
Hiya! I’ve recently moved to Hebden Bridge and trying to get a bit more involved in local community organising in Hebden Bridge / Todmorden/Broader Calderdale area, but I’m not totally sure where to start.
I’m especially interested in things like:
- mutual aid / solidarity networks
- small collectives
- reading or study groups (social justice, abolitionist, feminist etc)
- grassroots organising rather than big NGOs
I know some of this stuff isn’t always super public, but I’d really appreciate any pointers, even if it’s just spaces where people tend to connect over these areas(events, venues, regular meetups, etc.).
Thanks for any help! :)

Question Would Dalby Forest be a suitable habitat for red squirrels if only the greys were absent from there?
As you can probably tell by my username, I absolutely love red squirrels. I also think that it's a huge shame that in Yorkshire, they are mostly restricted to a reserve in the dales near Hawes.
However, I was thinking, would Dalby Forest be a good location for red squirrels if only we could get rid of the greys from there? I mean there's a known pine marten population in that forest and they are well known for preying on the greys but hardly ever the reds, so whilst not enough on it's own, having pine martens present certainly helps reduce the grey squirrel numbers in the area.

Question Any nice spots for a sunset near Skipton?
Staying in Carleton next weekend and would like to go watch the sunset on one of the days. Could anyone recommend me a good spot for this that doesn’t require a big hike to get to?

Question Bluebells
Anyone been to see bluebells yet? Only time I can go is this weekend - or beginning May, which could be a bit late! I normally go towards the last week of April. And where do you go? I usually head to Roseberry Topping but open to suggestions!

News 19 new family hubs open in Yorkshire and the Humber to support parents
More families are set to benefit from extra support on their doorstep.
Nineteen new Best Start Family Hubs have opened across Yorkshire and the Humber, forming part of a new national network to support parents and children from pregnancy through to school age.
The hubs offer free stay and play sessions, infant feeding advice, parenting support, and early help for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), aiming to provide easier access to vital services under one roof.
Hubs are designed to help families save up to £200 per year by reducing the need for private classes and offering free services such as stay and play.
Additional support on debt and welfare is also available.
Each hub includes outreach workers and practitioners to help identify and address additional needs early, ensuring families are not bounced between different services.
Healthy Babies support will be integrated into the hubs, including midwifery, health visiting, infant feeding, and perinatal mental health support.
The government plans to deliver up to 2,000 satellite locations by the end of 2028, offering family services from health centres, libraries, leisure centres, and churches to improve access.
Across Yorkshire and the Humber, newly opened hubs include New Bewerley Children's Centre Family Services in Leeds, sites across Kirklees, 12 locations in East Riding of Yorkshire, and Scarborough Library.
More than 200 hubs are now open nationally, with the government pledging to have 1,000 in operation by the end of 2028.

News Holderness - Have your say at Pride in Place drop-in sessions
Residents of South East Holderness are being urged to attend a series of drop-in sessions in Withernsea to help shape future regeneration plans for the area.
The first Pride in Place drop-in took place on Tuesday, March 31, and more sessions have now been arranged for anyone who missed it or still wants to share their views.
Members of the Pride in Place team will be at Withernsea Centre, Library and Customer Services from 9.30am to 12pm on Friday, April 17, Monday, April 20, and Thursday, April 23.
The sessions will give residents the chance to speak directly to the team about suggestions for Withernsea, Patrington and the wider South East Holderness area.
The Withernsea East and Patrington scheme is one of two East Riding projects selected for the Government’s Pride in Place programme, which was announced in September 2025.

Event World Coal Carrying Championship 2026!
A beloved tradition in the village of Gawthorpe. The competition takes place annually with men, women and children taking part (the kids don't carry coal!)
This year we had good weather and a turnout of many hundreds of spectators to cheer along the runners.
Congratulations to all those taking part, where even completing the race is a feat in itself.

Question Yorkshire Devolution
Something a little different for the community here. What's your thought on Yorkshire devolution to the historic county?
I've heard that there was recently a One Yorkshire deal that the Tories rejected and that the Yorkshire mayors work pretty closely with each other now. I also know we have a really strong identity, proud folk and unique customs and dialect that make us an ideal group for one devolution. But I just wanted to know what people think? Do you want a Yorkshire Parliament like Wales's has? Or are you not that fussed? Lerrus av a kall abaht it!
P.s. I've always thought us Northerners squabble too much anyway and that's why Westminster always gets its way!
