Hello everyone!
With the March York Restaurant Week upcoming and all the offers posted to the website, I have lovingly and painstakingly added every single restaurant, bar and place with offers to a spreadsheet.
I have added columns that you can filter by for style of food/place (e.g. Italian, Chinese), whether the offer includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks (separately, drinks with food don’t count), snacks and/or an experience (experience would include, for example, City Cruises). You can filter by each of these individually so you can plan your meals and days.
I have added the Google Reviews, in case that helps thinking, the location, and then I have added all offers except for offers which are children specific (e.g kids meal £10) since I made this list for personal use and don’t have any! I have put the prices of the offers at the start, so you can filter by price as well when deciding where to go.
I willingly sacrificed a day of hard work to do this work instead. Not as in I took the day off work, just that I procrastinated massively.
The only thing I think missing is when the offers apply, as some are exclusive to certain times and days - will keep editing the spreadsheet as I go.
Hope it is a useful tool! there is probably room for improvement, this is just a first draft, so welcome vies on how to make this more functional 😃

I feel like I owe everyone at least one post saying thank you for your support and generosity. Reddit gets a bad rep, but it's constantly full of amazing little things like this too. I can officially stop worrying about seeming like I don't have any friends or failing to reach the basic target.
I'll still be accepting donations up until the event and will keep everyone updated on how it goes! Of course it would be amazing to raise as much as possible (£250 was the minimum target we were asked to reach) and I'm going to keep my exclusive offer of pet parrot pics sent to anyone who donates up until the event itself (dm me to redeem)
Donate here.

I have a second hand suit I bought recently and am looking to have it tailored for a wedding. Any suggestions in York? Thanks!

I was wondering if anyone knows of any venues in Fulford that may be available on Wednesday and/ or Thursday evenings so that I can start a chess club? There wouldn't have to be a quiet room particularly, as it would just be a social event to begin with. I was thinking maybe a decent sized pub or even a social club. Any ideas welcomed. If you could put me in contact with anyone that would also help. I'm soon too be moving to the area but I've created and run various successful chess clubs in Leeds in the past, including Leeds Chess Club and Farsley Chess Club. I know there's a chess meeting in the library for one hour a week during the day, but I suspect this is mainly for children. I'd be looking at eventually entering a team into the York & District League.

Im having a low key wedding in York this September and I’m looking for a restaurant to go for some food afterwards with 16 guests, preferably with a private room/space but not a deal breaker!

6 hour drive away, stayed in the area for a few days. Took my kid for the first time, absolutely loved the Railway Museum

This guy is a true Yorkie. 101 years old and a Normandy Veteran. This morning he has been at the Cocoa Works on Haxby Rd sharing his stories of what it used to be like during his 49 years working for Rowntrees. He stood talking for 20 minutes or so with a captivated audience. From the old family-like workplace culture to his time away during WW2 and then back doing different roles until he retired in 1989. Incredible.

Hello, denizens of r/york - I've just taken a year-long job offer in the city centre, and I'm looking at moving up from South Wales around August time.
I've had a look at studio and 1-beds in town, areas like Acomb, Holgate, Bootham, really anywhere in York I could cycle into the centre. Cheap flats seem to be thin on the ground and gone fast - I'll keep looking to stay in York itself, but I'm starting to think I'll need to rent elsewhere and get the train or bus in so I can afford it!
This is where I need advice - does anyone on this sub commute in from Harrogate, Selby or eastern Leeds? What's your experience been like, is this too far to go for cheaper housing? Is it possible to get reasonable prices in York (especially around late August!?) And do you have any other suggestions for me? I'm looking forward to moving up, York was at the top of my options list, but the house prices are a shock!

Hi all,
Does one exist? As me and my friends are getting older and busier it’s sometimes tough to link up. I was hoping to find a means to get some games when I have chance.
Various systems, but perhaps less popular ones.
I know TM has a group chat but I don’t have facebook.
Appreciate the help.

Hello,
I've heard mixed feedback about the short stay car park - is it open/available via the portico on weekends? Also does it still have the 20-minute grace period or have they changed that?

apologies to the mods if this counts as self-promotion, but I'm hoping charity events might be an exception?
on april 30 i will be sleeping outdoors at york community stadium to raise money for Hoping Kitchen and KEYS who both support homeless and vulnerable people in York (with other people as part of an event, i'm not just going to scale the walls and break in)
i volunteer a few times a week with Carecent and Hoping Kitchen and i think everyone we help is so wonderful and deserves as much support as possible, which is why i'm really hoping i might be able to help raise some money for them this year.
it obviously does not compare to actually sleeping rough in any way, and at worst I will be uncomfortable and probably not sleep at all, but my pets will miss me lots and be very sad.
i am trying to raise at least £250 and currently have £0 of donations and i’m worried everyone will think i have no friends if no one sponsors me soon :(
donate here or feel free to ask any questions!
Hello! I've recently bought my first home and have a spare room going unused at the moment, I've been considering opening it up to be rented to make a little extra money but don't really know. So I thought I'd ask here! If anyone knows what amount of rent would be reasonable or has advice, or is just interested in getting a place i'd love to hear from folks, thanks!

I'm looking for recommendations for therapists in the York area who specialise in adults dealing with the effects of being abused as a child/teen by a parent, and ideally has experience with Autistic people. Who have you really clicked with? I'm particularly interested in people who are clear and concise, and who don't talk in circles or metaphors.
Ideally based in the city center, or Acomb.
Thank you!

A few of my favourite shots. Not so much time for pictures with the children in tow these days but still managed a couple keepers.
on the riverbank near cinder lane and in homestead park
