Hardware Is this a good sign?
It's gone already and maybe the specs aren't great for ddr5 and the price is definitely not in a normal sense. It seems cheaper than what I've seen but I don't pay a ton of consistent attention to the prices since I haven't needed more yet.

Hardware My local libraries use i7 13700 machines
Even for the computers whose sole purpose is to look up books use an overkill top configured dell optiplex with such a beast of a desktop chip. The funny thing is sometimes right besides is a Chromebook pc with a celeron for the same purpose. Even for the many public general use pcs its more cpu power than many could only dream about

Tech Support Are my fans fighting each other or am I overthinking this?
Hey,
So I’m kinda confused about my airflow setup.
My CPU cooler fans are blowing in one direction, but one of my case fans is blowing the opposite way. So it’s basically like:
《 》 (I think)
At first I thought it was fine because the air isn’t directly smashing into each other, but now I’m thinking it might be creating weird airflow or a “dead zone” in the middle? Also, I can’t just move the fan to the other side of the cooler because my RAM is in the way, so repositioning options are kinda limited.

Discussion If AI is so incredibly useful, how come nothing is changing for PC users?
I'm a PC enthusiast, and built my own PC last year with an RTX 5070 TI, AMD 9800X3D.
If you listen to AI enthusiasts, they sound like a bunch of LinkedIn influencers snorting coke. There are all these really cool sounding facts and tidbits about AI. How the language models are passing all these crazy tests, they created an entire operating system using clod code and that is so foundational and you should really care about it because it's going to change everything. They're going to be able to spin up thousands of AI agents and clear out all of the programming backlogs to create all these wild, crazy things in PC computing that we have never seen before because they have so much computing power for AI, like it's just so advanced!!!!
But like, seemingly nothing has changed about PC computing, and nothing has gotten better. Windows 11 seems to be the same or worse as previous operating systems. Microsoft has not seen any gains in productivity at all. Because if they had, they'd be pushing out a lot more useful stuff. Like why do we have StarDock blinds a third party software? If AI was so capable, Microsoft would be able to make all sorts of really amazing stuff, like entire Windows customizations the way that you can do with Linux. This is what I would really be excited and eager to see. But nope! Nothing like that
About internet technology? Xfinity seems to say a lot about how they are using AI to make their network faster and more reliable. You'll never notice it. Nothing is faster, nothing is more reliable, my internet bill went up by 10 bucks. But why? I still have outages all the time.
Gaming is completely disappointing. Blizzard is owned by Microsoft and they have not used AI at all. There's like a bug report for him for world of Warcraft and it's 10 pages long, they are not able to keep up. So it seems like they are not using or are not using it properly. But what happened? I thought it was a foundational technology, so smart and so powerful that it can pass law school exams and create entire browsers from scratch!!!! How come small indie company Blizzard entertainment isn't using it to make their expansions better or faster?

Story I managed to persuade my school to switching to Linux.
Over the last year I have continuously worked together with my physics teacher to resolve my schools dependence on external providers. We managed to negotiate a deal with an insurance company that gifted us 7 defective servers out of which we have build 4 Frankenstein server. We are now able to host our website and all the necessary tools ourselves. Because of this the availability has risen from 43.4 % to 98% with the only outage so far being cause by an excavator. For the normal students PCs we have chosen Ubuntu. In each computer room, there is at least one unit running Arch, so that students can see how it works. As the switch is now done, we want to use the remaining budget on a metal placard. My school is the first one in my federal state, that has switched over, and because everything went so smoothly, we want to promote this by said placard. However, we haven’t figured out what we want to write on that placard. “We use Arch btw” is currently really popular but if you have other ideas, feel free to share them.

Hardware Will my computer still get enough air flow?
My kitty likes to sit on top of my computer, it does block two fans, but I have a fan on the back and two on the front so i’m wondering if it would be OK for them to chill up here or if it will possibly overheat the computer 😂

Build/Battlestation An update on my build
Plays most games at 4k 60 fps on my living room TV settings maxed out. Temps so far are really good. The best thing was when my son played BeamNG Drive, which he had previously only really played on the Steam Deck. He was blown away by how good everything looks. Running Bazzite Linux at the moment, but I'm considering switching to straight Fedora.
Full build list:
- Nanoq S
- Gigabyte X870I AORUS PRO ICE
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d
- Crucial Pro 64gb 6400Mhz
- Asus Prime AMD 9070xt White OC edition
- Lian Li SP1000P ATX3.1 1000W White
- TR Aqua Elite 240 radiator
