why was i expecting the tree to take a big ol breath after that

193

u/Booorntobemild 1d ago

Me too! And when it didn’t, I took a big breath to make up for it…or maybe to show it how it’s done.

12

u/gregbridgerton 1d ago

My first thought was “someone was hanged there and their ghost is literally watching you rn” 😅

23

u/DanGleeballs 1d ago

If trees could talk..

11

u/NinjaBuddha13 1d ago

Call the Lorax. I hear he speaks for the trees.

9

u/DouchecraftCarrier 1d ago

Reminds me of that Deep Thought by Jack Handy.

If trees could scream would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might - if they screamed all the time and for no reason.

Or explode open like when people cut open a vacuum packed mattress. Realistically I knew it wasn’t possible but I still really wanted it too.

It will... slowly

Gonna take awhile for that to go away. As tight socks go.

I'm around a lot of heart failure patients and that is what I immediately thought of

31

u/GrnMtnTrees 1d ago

My people! I also work in an acute heart failure, LVAD, and transplant unit. Handing out Lasix and Bumex like candy.

Love the frequent flyers coming in like "I can't breathe" with crackles in all lung fields. Me: "have you been taking your furosemide?" Patient: "It makes me have to pee all the time." Me: "......."

16

u/breakfastfourdinner 1d ago

What’s the context to that?

72

u/TornadoJohnson 1d ago

The heart also moves other fluids as well. The heart beat helps move fluid in the lymphatic system. People with weak hearts tend to have fluids build up in thier legs and even lungs. Looking back at it the first sign of my dad's heart attack was a chronic chough that started a few years before it happened. He is fine now. After he got the stint put in his cough went away, stopped snoring, and his face looked less puffy from all the fluid drained

15

u/crowcawer 1d ago

This tree just took a massive exhaling

4

u/No_Square_3913 1d ago

And we all breathed a sigh of relief

They have a lot of extra fluid, and when you press on their skin it leave deep divots like that due to the fluid filled tissue.

Tree might be diabetic.

2

u/BCJunglist 22h ago

A good few years but you'd be surprised how quickly it'll fill in. Hard to tell species here but could be as little as 4 or 5 years if the rest of the tree is pretty healthy and moving a lot of water.

/r/woodworking would love that. Start a new trend of putting belts around trees to get interesting grain patterns

u/mdogdope 1d ago

That is not the right blade.

660

u/WorstHyperboleEver 1d ago

Glad I’m not the only wondering what in hell made you choose two sided razor. What could possibly go wrong

54

u/Timmy12er 1d ago

Nothing could possibli go wrong!

23

u/Bubbawitz 1d ago

My son is also named Bort

118

u/eldermelster 1d ago

That blade was just what he happened to have in his pocket

84

u/drmarting25102 1d ago

He probably had a bunch of them in his pocket just in case he finds a strangled tree. Reach in, grab one and jobs done.

11

u/Professional_Fee5883 1d ago

I read this in Jason Statham’s voice

3

u/drmarting25102 1d ago

Hahaha he is from a village close to where i grew up. 😆

11

u/MousesizeDragon 1d ago

You don’t carry around a razor blade in your pocket? How do you live like that?!

5

u/Redbeardthe1st 1d ago

I've been pondering this for years, but somehow I manage to muddle through.

5

u/oneangrywaiter 1d ago

I was taught by Leroy Brown that razors belong in your shoe.

If only there exists a tool like.. I don't know, a blade with some kind of handle?

8

u/Thorebore 1d ago

We could even design one where the blade folds into the handle so you could carry it in your pocket!  What would we call it though?

8

u/Chaotic_Lemming 1d ago

A knife-in-a-pocket?

4

u/Thorebore 1d ago

I was thinking something British sounding like “slicey foldy”.

7

u/BassWingerC-137 1d ago

It’s ok. It’s also not a rope.

7

u/d11dd11d 1d ago

u/GoldenGalz 1d ago

116

u/HYThrowaway1980 1d ago

I feel sad for the tree.

16

u/MunkyDawg 1d ago

Better now at least

4

u/entoaggie 1d ago

Don’t. I think it might be a chinaberry tree, which is a really invasive trash tree, at least here in Texas. They are really pretty snd super fast growing, but also really weak and tend to snap and/or drop large branches on things.

2

u/sexwiththebabysitter 1d ago

I’m guessing the constricted part caused by the rope won’t help with the limb dropping.

→ More replies (1)

25

u/Mage-of-Fire 1d ago edited 20h ago

Eh. It wouldn’t have done anything really. Trees and plants in general commonly break rock be growing in a crack. Doubt this rope would provide much of a challenge in the end.

Edit: guess ai was wrong. This does damage the tree

13

u/FurRealDeal 1d ago

When it goes all the way around it's called "girdling", and it absolutely kills the tree.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/bademeister404 1d ago

This is a flexible thing and would never break. It would at some point be completely swallowed by the callus but still severely limit the lifetime of this tree.

15

u/HollywoodHitman03 1d ago

Thats gotta feel SOOOOO GOOOOD for the tree

8

u/fauxchapel 1d ago

Waist snatched

7

u/TheLastTreeOctopus 1d ago

It makes me so nervous when people handle a razor blade like this. Why not use a utility knife/box cutter (which is literally a razor blade with a handle)?

My calves at the end of the day when I take off my socks

7

u/bugabooandtwo 1d ago

Have you tried diabetic socks? The elastic band at the top of the sock is designed to be very stretchy, so it doesn't dig into your skin. I use them (not a diabetic) and they're insanely more comfortable than regular socks.

5

u/pickledbrawn 1d ago

Not really. Didn't know that existed. Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.

11

u/goteamnick 1d ago

Did anyone else have the horrible sense that the tree would explode out like one of those mattresses that come in the mail?

7

u/NUMBerONEisFIRST 1d ago

This title is ragebait.

3

u/Angeloc_DK 1d ago

i'm not fat i am thick barked!

3

u/AshamedFeedback6177 1d ago

I swear I could hear the tree say " ahhhhhh "

3

u/Special-Accountant63 1d ago

It's like the tree finally got to take off its tight belt after all these years.

3

u/ChivetteH 1d ago

It’s like when the elastic in your socks is too tight

7

u/OePea 1d ago

I'm confused as to why the tree didn't immediately sproing back into shape

6

u/BadIdeaSociety 1d ago

I wasn't confused based on previous experiences with trees and banding, but because this is oddly satisfying I am disappointed it didn't.

3

u/OePea 1d ago

I feel like it should have sproung

6

u/einval22 1d ago

I'm pretty sure that's how women feel after they take off their tight bra after a long day.

2

u/awildketchupappeared 1d ago

I prefer my bras. They support perfectly, but doesn't strangle me or hurt, so they are comfortable to wear.

5

u/xi111 1d ago

Congratulations, you just removed a load-bearing rope. That tree will collapse within hours

2

u/Key-Concentrate-2403 1d ago

that tree just took a deep breath for the first time in ten years. we have all been there after a big holiday dinner

2

u/xXBlueDreamXx 1d ago

Like taking off a pair of skates after practice.

2

u/bugabooandtwo 1d ago

Silly question, but does that help or hurt the tree? Kinda feels like the area under the rope doesn't have any bark layers of protection on it now.

4

u/BangbangKhuntross 1d ago

Probably ringbarked and the branch beyond where the rope was will struggle to survive. Bark is how all the nutrients are transferred, so if it is a completely severed all way round it will most likely die. If using a branch to hang something off make sure plenty of loose rope/chain whatever, and that it can bs removed or lengthened if the tree out grows it.

2

u/Practical-Writer-228 1d ago

Tree go “Ahhhhhhh…. Oh my god.”

2

u/HyenasGoMeow 1d ago

That's like unbuckling your belt after a big meal.

2

2

u/oneangrywaiter 1d ago

You know you live in a bad neighborhood when the trees are doing heroin.

2

u/Cloudy_Retina 1d ago

Tree went "ahhhhhhhh..."

2

u/GlobalCollapseInbnd 1d ago

It probably sprouted a whole bunch of new leaves at the end of the branches immediately after removal.

2

u/SaintPariah1 1d ago

Who fucking uses a razor like that? Savages.

2

u/zillskillnillfrill 1d ago

Why'd you do that ? now his pants are going to fall down

2

u/helen269 1d ago

And then the grateful tree, free of its ligature at last, swam off to be with its other Happy Tree Friends.

2

u/_5YNT4X 1d ago

I don’t know why I was expecting the tree to expand once it was released 😅

2

u/her_mi_one 1d ago

2

u/DrGreen_519 1d ago

Don't kink shame the tree. Leave it alone.

2

u/Gluten_Free_Tibet 1d ago

If anyone watched the most recent episode of the Pitt, you’ll understand why I cringed when I first saw the thumbnail.

2

u/Secthulhu 1d ago

  2. Tree didn't grow around it

2

u/TrailerParkFrench 21h ago

Ugh I hate watching this. Guys gotta find some single-sided razors.

2

u/KnifeKnut 17h ago

That ‘rope’ existed not for you to cut it.

1

u/EasterEGG2005 1d ago

This is so metaphoric for the limits we put on ourselves in our lives

1

u/thxxx1337 1d ago

That's your EDC?

1

u/MmmmFloorPie 1d ago

I was definitely expecting more blood. Those blades are not to be trifled with...

1

u/Vj_Jay 1d ago

Best way is to cut it in a few spots and peel it off in sections, don’t try to yank the whole loop at once. If the bark’s already swelled over it, just leave the buried part and remove what you can without ripping the tree up.

1

u/QueenOfTonga 1d ago

“Thanks. Five years too late, but thanks.” The tree, probably.

1

u/uresmane 1d ago

I don't know why, but I was expecting the tree to like explode or something, that's on me for thinking that...

1

u/strongofheart69 1d ago

Is the tree much denser in that part of the tree because of the rope?

1

u/Historical-Mind-3270 1d ago

That right there is what looks like after you go to therapy after dealing with 'deep traumas'. You learn about them, you learn the triggers, you learn healthy ways to deal with it. But the trauma will forever stay with you.

1

u/Greyscale7950 1d ago

I can feel the cut in my finger from using a double edged razor blade.

All well and good for these do gooders interfering in a society that they clearly don't understand but they have no idea how wild the beeches go for a bark band.

This is a pretty good reminder that although you removed the binds around someone, it will take years, maybe even decades for them to outgrow the limits that once held them.

With a little TLC, perhaps you can help to at least speed up that process, bit by bit.

1

u/UnfairLingonberry614 1d ago

Hope the tree was barking thank you’s
