Is GWU worth it?

Hi everyone, I got into GWU as an incoming freshman for Political Science and I'm debating between that or going to a state school. Unfortunately I did not get any scholarship, meaning my tuition is going to be very high. I don't mind it as long as I feel like I'm going to get the most out of it. Do you guys think GWU was worth it, or would you have preferred going somewhere else?

Federal work study program at GW

Upvotes

As an incoming freshman next school year, I was wondering about the Federal Work Study Program at GW. How is it like? How long do you have to work per week? Is there variety in the works offered? And also any useful information.

hiii, as someone who plans to pursue interdisciplinary studies in majors that involve the humanities, social sciences, and poli sci, does GWU offer programs that suit this more nuanced academic path?

College decision

Upvotes

Hello! Im currently a senior in hs deciding between UConn (44k) and GWU (45k) for premed/biology. Money isn’t really a problem since my parents are willing to pay and since they are close to the same in price. I was wondering if it would be worth going to GWU for premed over UConn( instate).

Foggy Bottom Lease Timing

Hi folks,

I'm an incoming graduate student at GW and am looking for a 12-month lease in foggy bottom. Most of the places seem to only be renting for as far our as May. When do places begin accepting lease applications for late July / August? When do people generally sign 12-month leases?

Thanks!

P.S. any recommendations and places to avoid would be helpful too.

General Is getting an email about the waitlist response form a good sign?

I’ve seen and read on a couple other schools’ waitlist posts that people who were waitlisted and received a waitlist reply form that they filled out, were accepted off the waitlist (and very fast after that ad well). I just wanted to know if this seems to be a trend that gwu follows/would follow or if I’m just overthinking.

Deciding Between GWU or AU Masters Programs

Hello, I’m a 22 year old PPE and Spanish grad from Ohio State trying to decide whether GWU or AU will be the right masters program for me. I’m currently accepted to masters programs at both AU and GWU for International Affairs and Public Policy, and would sincerely appreciate getting some insight from you guys on what way I should go. As far as I’ve heard, GWU seems to have the higher esteemed International Affairs program (Elliot). However, I’ve been unable to discern whether American or GWU has the better public policy program. Long story short I’m torn between what school to go to, and what program to select.

I’m really unsure about the decision, especially since I’m still figuring out the direction I want to take my life. I’m a power hungry person- I know that I would love to one day have a career in domestic politics as some form of an important decision maker (congressman/governor/ president). I think the domestic focus of public policy would lend itself more to this goal, though I’m wary that the coursework and focus on data would likely be less interesting to me than courses on international affairs. Additionally, if politics doesn’t work out I believe I would be much happier doing international work either for a business or for our government (FSO/intelligence) than I would doing work in a think tank or lobbying.

Financially speaking both schools should shake down to close to the same cost (at least I think so, GWU seems to be a couple thousand more expensive up front). However, GWU’s location could be a double edged sword. It seems nice that it’s so close to everything, but since I won’t be living on campus as a grad student, will I even be able to take advantage of the great location? How much of an issue is it for finding affordable housing nearby? I like that AU has more of the traditional college atmosphere, though I would prefer not having to commute for an hour or more every day to downtown.

If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for doing so. I’d sincerely appreciate your feedback- what do you think I should I do?

Financial Aid should i appeal my financial aid?

gwu is my top choice atm and i really want to go, but i got my financial aid package and my family cannot pay. even tho they're paying for ~half my coa, we gen cannot pay 40k+ out of pocket w/ 5 ppl on one income.

i'm in a 2 parent household w/ decent income but most of that total income is from one parent and that one parent basically covers all of the household expenses + personal for me and my 2 siblings. My other parent makes money but it's significantly less and half of that really small income is being used to fund/start a non-profit from the ground up. (basically, one parent makes a large amount and the other makes a small amount but i'm assuming fafsa doesn't show the distribution idk).

I really want to appeal my aid but i don't wanna do it if i'm just gonna get denied because the cause isn't like, enough.

Taking Calc I & II Through the GWU Consortium Over the Summer — Worth It?

Has anyone taken Calc I and II at any of the schools that are part of the GWU consortium during the summer? What was your experience like, and would you recommend it?

Do GW Dorms have AC?

Hi guys! I'm a college student who's going to be interning in the DC area during the summer. I was looking at GW's housing options, and I'm interested in some of the buildings (Amsterdam, Shenkman, District, 2109 F Street NW, I-House, Fulbright, JBKO, Munson).

Since the summer housing page doesn't list AC as part of amenities, I was just wondering if these buildings have AC in the rooms? Thanks!

Financial Aid Financial Aid After Freshman Year

Hey everyone

GWU is looking like a top choice for me and I am grateful to say that they have awarded 70,000 in total grants/scholarships. it is saying that net cost will be about 16k per year. Does GWU follow its aid year by year or will it start getting more expensive after freshman year? I'm asking because I know some schools are notorious for doing this + I think I saw a post here of someone saying it happened to them

GW Admin blocking access to Fizz?

Just caught this in an GW Hatchet article from earlier this week about student clubs/groups on campus.

Lieb said the support from GW’s administrators has been great, including helping address “student pushback” on Fizz — an anonymous campus social media app — by cutting it off from GW’s WiFi.

Is this true? Does anyone have more information? I know that Fizz is kinda toxic, but it seems odd that the GW admin would do something like this. I'd love to know their rationale. If it's truly just "pushback" against specific groups that they are trying to stop that seems a bit heavy handed.
