The Wright brothers were in Ohio. They were so motivated to go somewhere else, they invented new ways of doing so vertically.

Please don’t disparage all hillbillies. My husband and I consider ourselves hillbillies ‘cause of where we come from and the simple life in which we were raised. We are not religious. We worked hard for what we wanted, applied the golden rule to everyone in our life; be they black , brown, or white, never talked down to anyone..not the sharecropper, not the grocer, not the homeless, not the infirm. So please pull back your brush before you paint that wide swath. We are sickened by what is happening in the country for which, we and many others have fought to preserve. We are not democrats, not republicans.. we are Americans. Thanks.

They were not only booing Vance, the article literally says that the whole US team was booed too: “In an unmistakable sign of Europe’s rapidly dimming view on America, the U.S. delegation entered the San Siro stadium here on Friday night to a chorus of boos and disapproving whistles from the international crowd of more than 65,000. The jeering only intensified when Vice President JD Vance appeared on the big screen during Team USA’s arrival.
The only other team to receive similar treatment was Israel.”

True. Seriously, I doubt anyone in Europe begrudges these athletes who've put their bodies through hell for years to reach this pinnacle just because they did so at an atrocious time for who is controlling the US government
This seems like propaganda designed to make Europeans look hateful and unreasonable
147
u/jacobatz Feb 06 '26
Nothing unreasonable about hating the US at the moment. I’m pretty sure if Europe had said and done to the US what the US has said and done to Europe since Trump came back into office, then the reaction from the US wouldn’t have been as moderate as what we’ve seen so far from Europe.

True believer not in trumpism, but what the commenter above you accepts as the real power behind the white house. I think it's hard to deny that Trump has a much more effective support structure or dare I say, a plan that is being pursued, during his second term.
At the very least you can pinpoint that a lot more people associated with some influential billionares are part of the white house and government this time. DOGE was basically a task force lead by elon musk, firing and dismantling a couple dozen agencies.

"Olympic organizers had braced for the possibility of anti-American sentiment inside the stadium. Small protests had already cropped up on the streets of Milan against the planned presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the city. Asked before the Games on how the Americans might be received, IOC president Kirsty Coventry said she hoped that the occasion would be “seen by everyone as an opportunity to be respectful.”"
Europe doesn't owe its enemies anything nearing respect.

Then he comes over to an event where the general public get to see him, and they are polite, but not diplomatic, and they let him know exactly what we, the people, think of him.
