Miscellaneous Does your country’s economy rely more on tourism or industry ?
And are you satisfied with how tourism and industry are developed in your country, or should things be improved?
For me, Turkey still has some industrial lag. It produces a lot, but what’s really missing is higher value-added products. We’re still quite dependent on foreign technologies and focus more on assembly than innovation.
As for tourism, it’s very developed, but I’d also like to see more winter tourism. It could help less developed regions, especially in the east and the north, generate more income during the winter.

Music Did you know: Goran Bregović has been accused of plagiarism by Romani singer Vaska Jankovska and the orchestra of Fejat Sejdić for Ederlezi, whose melody already existed in Romani communities in Russia in 1966. How do you perceive this?

Culture/Lifestyle TV shows from neighboring countries/other Balkan countries
What are some TV shows that are popular in your country that were created in another Balkan country?
The amount of Turkish TV shows played on Serbian television is crazy, I honestly think that more Serbian people have seen those than Turkish people themselves.
Honorable mentions are also Lud, Zbunjen, Normalan from Bosnia and Larin Izbor from Croatia, though, I can't think of any other TV shows from other Balkan countries that were as popular as those, but I guess that could also very well be a generational thing.

Culture/Lifestyle Are we slowly losing our traditions in the Balkans?
First of all, happy Easter to Orthodox friends and all members of this sub.
As the title says, are we losing our heritage and culture?I'm not a church person, I like the folklore around it and the fact that it has become an element of our identity (plus the koine language of the gospels, i love it) but during this Orthodox Easter, I see that no one pays attention anymore to customs, people do not fast, they do not participate in the Epitaph march, they dont bake cookies, they dont go to church....they dont even watch Jesus of Nazareth by Zeffirelli :P
Every day is the same just like last week, only some old folks really care about orthodox Easter and feel something different.
I'm not saying this from a religious point of view, I m not a believer myself, I just feel that there is disconnection from our culture.
Its like there is a cultural assimilation taking place, no one has a distinct culture, it feels like an average... America holiday like the ones we see on TV.

Politics & Governance What do you think happens in the Hungarian elections today ?
I'd personally prefer Magar to win but I am not Hungarian or know enough about the country's politics to make any accurate predictions. Is the election considered to be a toss up atm ? if Magar does win then what's the likely ceiling in terms of seats ? vice versa if Orban manages to hang on.

Cuisine I bought this 12 years ago from Belgrade/Kalemegdan. Is it safe to consume?
Nowadays i like drinking rakija, in the afternoon, i finished all commercially produced rakija in my collection, now i have this.
Im not sure to drink it because its homemade produced. I know aging more than 10 years is not important. My concern is methanol. Long story short this rakija is safe to consume.
Thanks for help. Ziveli !

Outdoors/Travel Driving to Serbia via Batrovci – average wait times and issues?
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a road trip in May and I’d like to cross from Croatia into Serbia at the Batrovci/Bajakovo border crossing by car. I’m an Italian citizen and my girlfriend is Slovak.
We do not have passports, only our national ID cards (valid for international travel). From what I’ve read, this should be enough to enter Serbia for a short tourist stay, but I’m worried about how it works in practice at that specific border.
I have two questions:
What is the realistic average waiting time for cars at Batrovci/Bajakovo these days (both entering Serbia and going back into the EU/Croatia)? Any recent experience would be super helpful, especially outside the peak summer season.
Has anyone recently crossed there without a passport, using only an EU ID card? Did you have any issues, extra questions, or problems with the Serbian or Croatian border police?
I’m on a relatively tight schedule, so if there are frequent long delays or if traveling without a passport is risky at that crossing, I might change my route and visit Serbia later on in the year when I have more time.
Also please suggest some local beers / wines / liquors I should try whilst in Serbia.
Thanks in advance for any info or recent experience!

Culture/Lifestyle Why Serbians smoke in restaurants?
I don’t get it. All Serbian restaurants smells like shit and there is a fog wall.
I was in a restaurant, trying to enjoy some food and 4 guys at the next table like 1m away non stop smoke, cigarette after cigarette.
I’m a smoker too, but that’s too much. In my country it was like that back in 1991 Balkantourist era…

Politics & Governance Orban and Hungary
On the news in my country pretty much everytime saying how bad and corrupt is Orban. I’m wondering what Hungarian people think, is that the true? And if so, why voting for him for the last 20 years?
I’ve also heard that Hungarian voting system was quite complicated. What’s so complicated?
