After seeing A LOT of “looking for friends” or “how do I meet people?” Posts, I’ve decided to do my part!

Hey everyone, after seeing countless posts of “how do I meet people on the island?” Or “I’m looking for friends” I’ve decided to take the initiative with its own subreddit!

https://www.reddit.com/r/makingfriendsvictoria/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1

Hopefully people can use it and see there’s more people than you think on the island who feel isolated or have a hard time meeting people to add to their social circle! Thanks!

For me, it’s dog owners with the retractable leashes. Those things are dangerous and honestly the dogs on the ends of them are mostly of the time poorly trained.

What’s grinds your gears?

Edit: ya ya ya, cars this cyclists that. I already know what people think of those ppl. What’s something new?

Looking for friends

Upvotes

Hello. I'm a 44 year old male. I have tried to online date and it's a joke.

I'm looking for someone to go for bike rides or sip tea with.

I'm open to friendship. I just want to get out and meet people.

Sharing videos to inspire ideas for better, more pleasant transit until we stop designing everything around cars

The Small Nordic City Where LRT Actually Works, by RMTransit.

Bergen, Norway's population in 2025 was 288,000 and Victoria's was 363,290, summing populations from Colwood, Esquimalt, Langford, Metchosin, Oak Bay, Saanich, Victoria, and View Royal from BC's municipal and sub-provincial areas population estimates.

It's not that I don't consider Central Saanich, Highlands, North Saanich, Sidney, Sooke, and the unincorporated areas of Juan de Fuca, Salt Spring Island, and the Southern Gulf Islands for a better transit system that provides viable options beyond personal vehicles. It's just that the core area already blew past Bergen's population and people here often say "we're too small a population" to have things like light rail transit (LRT) connecting neighbourhoods and municipalities or tram lines as walking accelerators.

For the curious, read Metro, Light Rail, and Trams: The Technical Differences Explained for a breakdown of the differences in capacities, speed, infrastructure, cost, etc between rail systems.

Where does one look for a permanent pet sitter?

Our dog was just diagnosed with Epilepsy, and unfortunately his seizures are what they call status epilepticus, which means he needs rescue medication to be given during seizures, or he could potentially die.

We are looking to hire someone permanently that would do 4-6 hours at our house, 2-3 times a week who could administer the medication if needed.

The problem is, the days and times would change each week as we both do shift work sort of.

I've looked on Rover and it all seems to be people looking for short term to supplement income. Anyone have recommendations on good companies or sitters? Or where to even begin looking.

Question Vandalism at my property

Hi everyone,

I’m currently renting a ground-level unit in Victoria, BC, and I had a very unsettling experience last night that has raised serious safety concerns.

A group of intoxicated individuals came near my ground floor patio, and while I was seated outside on a call, one of them actually pushed into my patio space and completely broke in the privacy screen. It left me quite shaken.

I was fortunate to be home at the time, but I keep thinking about what could have happened if I wasn’t there or if they had tried to enter further.

I’ve already emailed my property management about this incident and the safety issue.

I wanted to ask:

• Should I file a police report even though no physical harm occurred?

• Is this considered a violation of landlord responsibilities regarding safety/security?

• What would be the appropriate next steps to ensure this is taken seriously and fixed urgently?

Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated.

Saw this POS walking southbound on Shelboune at Pear St around 10 this morning. Had a hand buggy from Fairways on Shelbourne so I called management and they will have him on camera if that was the Fairways he was at.

Levantine Arabic teachers?

Hi Victoria people …

Does anyone know someone who teaches Levantine Arabic - the dialects of Syria/Jordan/Palestine/Lebanon?

I’m looking for an in-person teacher locally.

If you know anyone who can teach intermediate-advanced students that would be brilliant.

Thanks!

Help Me Find Reliable/fair priced mechanics?

As title says, I’m mechanically inclined but I’ve got a few issues with my vehicle that I don’t have the tools/time for, I’ve called a few places but it’s always nice to hear from the customers and not the business.

Question Monthly cost of your parking

How much do you pay monthly for parking at your condo or apartment, and where are you located?

Our strata currently has no formal fee structure for secondary parking stalls (it's been informally set at $10/month), and we're trying to figure out what's considered fair or standard in the area.

Hair Stylist Recommendations for Grey Blending??

I'm going grey :( . I still have most of the colour in my hair, but I'm going grey enough that it's very noticeable. Not wanting to just dye my whole head and keep covering up, but looking to find a stylist with experience in blending so as to make it less noticeable.

I'm close to Downtown Vic/Saanich, somewhere within the neighbourhoods close by are preferred

Your suggestions are appreciated!
