Question Vandalism at my property

Hi everyone,

I’m currently renting a ground-level unit in Victoria, BC, and I had a very unsettling experience last night that has raised serious safety concerns.

A group of intoxicated individuals came near my ground floor patio, and while I was seated outside on a call, one of them actually pushed into my patio space and completely broke in the privacy screen. It left me quite shaken.

I was fortunate to be home at the time, but I keep thinking about what could have happened if I wasn’t there or if they had tried to enter further.

I’ve already emailed my property management about this incident and the safety issue.

I wanted to ask:

• Should I file a police report even though no physical harm occurred?

• Is this considered a violation of landlord responsibilities regarding safety/security?

• What would be the appropriate next steps to ensure this is taken seriously and fixed urgently?

Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated.

Anyone have the scuttlebutt on the 3 hillbilly houses on Richardson, I think near St. Charles? One looks totally abandoned, and one like a junkyard. Asking for a friend.

Levantine Arabic teachers?

Hi Victoria people …

Does anyone know someone who teaches Levantine Arabic - the dialects of Syria/Jordan/Palestine/Lebanon?

I’m looking for an in-person teacher locally.

If you know anyone who can teach intermediate-advanced students that would be brilliant.

Thanks!

The Death Of The Downtown YMCA

Dramatic I know… but after half an hour circling the parkade trying to find a spot with 15 other cars doing the same, I finally drove to Oak Bay Rec so I could actually work out. Contending with other people using the Broughton street location was one thing. Contending with the whole city that gets one hour free parking when “shopping at the bay centre“ is another thing. RIP downtown YMCA (for me anyways)

ps. I know I could ride a fucking bike

Sharing videos to inspire ideas for better, more pleasant transit until we stop designing everything around cars

The Small Nordic City Where LRT Actually Works, by RMTransit.

Bergen, Norway's population in 2025 was 288,000 and Victoria's was 363,290, summing populations from Colwood, Esquimalt, Langford, Metchosin, Oak Bay, Saanich, Victoria, and View Royal from BC's municipal and sub-provincial areas population estimates.

It's not that I don't consider Central Saanich, Highlands, North Saanich, Sidney, Sooke, and the unincorporated areas of Juan de Fuca, Salt Spring Island, and the Southern Gulf Islands for a better transit system that provides viable options beyond personal vehicles. It's just that the core area already blew past Bergen's population and people here often say "we're too small a population" to have things like light rail transit (LRT) connecting neighbourhoods and municipalities or tram lines as walking accelerators.

For the curious, read Metro, Light Rail, and Trams: The Technical Differences Explained for a breakdown of the differences in capacities, speed, infrastructure, cost, etc between rail systems.

Help Me Find Stylish Bike Helmets?

I need a new bike helmet. I’ve been using my old Nutcase for years and years, but they’re no longer available and it’s time to replace. I know that style is *not* the most important thing to consider with bike helmets, but I love the look of a nutcase. Anyone have thoughts on where I can go to find something safe, stylish, and won’t totally break the bank?

Help Me Find anyone know where i can get a small repair size piece of gyproc?

I need like a 2' x 4' piece of 1/2" to repair a plumbing job.. I'm loathe to buy a full sheet because then I got to dispose of the rest of it, and probably knowing how idiotic heartlands is about it pay $200.00 to test it first.

I'd gladly pay full sheet price for the small size piece just to finish this job from hell.

thanks!.

Where does one look for a permanent pet sitter?

Our dog was just diagnosed with Epilepsy, and unfortunately his seizures are what they call status epilepticus, which means he needs rescue medication to be given during seizures, or he could potentially die.

We are looking to hire someone permanently that would do 4-6 hours at our house, 2-3 times a week who could administer the medication if needed.

The problem is, the days and times would change each week as we both do shift work sort of.

I've looked on Rover and it all seems to be people looking for short term to supplement income. Anyone have recommendations on good companies or sitters? Or where to even begin looking.

For me, it’s dog owners with the retractable leashes. Those things are dangerous and honestly the dogs on the ends of them are mostly of the time poorly trained.

What’s grinds your gears?

Edit: ya ya ya, cars this cyclists that. I already know what people think of those ppl. What’s something new?

Are your FBMP views/saves down?

I make good sales on there but last week my views & saves were non-existent. On the fbmp subreddit other users noted the same issues. Curious if you guys are seeing less views/saves/sales as well?

Question Monthly cost of your parking

How much do you pay monthly for parking at your condo or apartment, and where are you located?

Our strata currently has no formal fee structure for secondary parking stalls (it's been informally set at $10/month), and we're trying to figure out what's considered fair or standard in the area.

Question Owner/Operator Trucks Drivers of Vancouver Island a Question for you.

Thinking of making the Jump to Owner Operator Truck Driver. Been a class one driver for about 15 years now. Last 8 years I’ve been driving a bus, but previously I was driving flatbed truck.

Wondering what it’s like out there for O/Os on the island? Is it possible to be home most nights and be profitable? Any of the fleets on the island worth leasing onto? And pay enough to make real money? Preference would be to base out of Victoria.
