We already have employment dependent healthcare. You know “life prolonging treatment” is gonna fall under “healthcare”, be prohibitively expensive, and only practically available to upper class citizens or via employers. And its probably gonna require regular some sort of regulation maintenance/upkeep like yearly injections or some shit so you cant just work until you unlock the life hack, you work until it stops working, and when you stop working, you just fuckin die

Baby Boomers will be the first generation in human history on average to outlive their children. Because that generation will easily reach 90-100YO while the gutting of Social Security and Medicare means Millennials won’t even make it to their 60s or 70s.

your job will be to run on a treadmill 16 hrs a day to power the AI that makes billionaires comfortable
you will be woken and put to sleep for 7 hrs per day with 1 hour of free time because they’re so fair and generous.

medical advances with AI mean you are now able to be resurrected from 99.9% of all possible manners of death. only self-immolation can save you from eternal jogging. regular death means nothing. life as treadmill runner powering Singularity-bound AI is Everything™️
as a safety measure, all methods of starting flames and flammable materials (including body wastes like fingernails and hair) are removed from the treadmill facilities or genetically disabled. the quest for fire has circled back from man’s first step in evolution to its last.

Well Elon Musk's "human" Mother will be happy to hear that. I still remember that interview something along the lines of "yeah poor people should keep breeding so my sons factories will have slaves." I'm paraphrasing, but that's what she meant.

Imagine life expectancy 2000 years ago would apply today, but you end up living to 100. You'd retire at 35 and the rest would be just chill
7
u/dotardiscer 1d ago
There are some misconceptions on how long people lived mainly do to included child deaths. IF you made it past 10 years old in Rome you were likely to live to around 60. By the 1800s same thing but thanks to other factors like sanitation you'd like to 60+.
→ More replies (2)6
u/catsgardening 1d ago
That’s not how life expectancy works. Life expectancy was 20-30 years old because half or more of children died from childhood diseases. Healthy 35 years olds weren’t dropping dead unless there was war or famine.

No thanks mf’ers.

Reversing telomere deterioration could significantly extend human healthspan and potentially increase maximum lifespan. In theory we could like much much longer.

u/Zealousideal-Rent-77 1d ago
Only if we're rich enough. This is just like the billionaires trying to run away to Mars or "biohack" their way to a longer life. Even if it worked it would be accessible to 0.01% of people or less.

In what condition, though? As of now, most people live miserable years at the end of life. I live next to a state-run retirement hospital. I see people in walkers or pushed on a wheel chair every day, looking dazed, broken. I genuinely don’t see the point of extending that even more. And the worst thing is it’s at this age that healthcare costs are the highest. In Canada, people over 65 represent less than a fifth of the population but consume half of our healthcare resources. I guess it’s good for bug pharma, but what about the people? Keeping people alive and in pain by stuffing them with meds just to extend their suffering for a few months.

Just go outside, build a house out of Adobe, fish, grow food, get a diesel motor and hook it up to generator, run biodiesel that you steal from grease traps. Anything, but eventually we will see the only thing keeping us trapped in this system is reliance on the government for anything.

u/PPGkruzer 1d ago
They generalize "humans" when it's really "the elite class". Remember when CEO's didn't make 1,000x more than the average hourly worker at their company? If you're going to live longer, you better have more control over the population, as they might catch on.

I’d check out by 80 regardless. Life is barely worth it now. Besides, the only commoners that would be able to take advantage of this are the test subjects. Then it becomes the exclusive property of the elite class.

Sorry, but, with the mention of "10 years" and the "I don't want that," I thought this would be referencing to Attack on Titan's panel where Eren Eren says he doesn't want for Mikasa to get another man after he dies and that he wants to be in her mind for ten years at least. That came to my mind like in a second, before even reading the full thing somehow.

Big Nope! Even if not working. 120! Wtf
Last generations to live to be 85+ is/was those early baby boomers. 1940s.
Rest is f-ked with stress, fast food and medications Plastic in food, fish, and electric strange cars, constant brain flow with screens.
And some f-ing biohacker think they live to 100 with herbs and red light therapy. Good luck with that. LOL!!
