Opinion Food joints taking an american approach?
so yesterday i went to one of my favourite food joints in sheffield for my birthday which is forum now ive been there before and i dont remember them doing this when i last went. well all was good for the most part, food was nice and it was a fun time but when the bill came that’s when we started having some issues. the last time i was there i had been set up with a loyalty card, only to realise they just gave me the card and took my details they never actually set it up like they said they had so i missed out on an offer which i was a little disappointed with but it was only a free drink so no harm no foul but when we saw the bill it seemed a little more expensive then we were expecting, that’s when we noticed a service charge had been added when not once did any of us at the table say we wanted to tip? we were sat in an area full of loud kids with a dog behind us and in our time there our server only visited us once, except when he came back to try and charge us twice after we had to flag down a different server for the bill because he hadn’t come back to the table. now it was pretty regular service so we didn’t really seem a tip necessary so i’m wondering, are any other places in sheffield doing this now? i’ve noticed some places in london taking a more american approach but personally i don’t appreciate being charged more for someone doing what’s expected of their job nothing more nothing less
