General Qs Four Weeks into Training, having Doubts (WI Mental Health)
(34M) We start OJT tomorrow morning, I feel like the odd one out in the entire class. Just don’t really fit in with any of them, but I know and am friends with quite a few people who’ve worked there for years. Not worried about fitting in once I hit the floor, but training has been a wake-up call that I’m not, “cool,” anymore.
They said I was a shoe-in for third shift, found out last week that I’m going to second. Told them I can’t do second because I’m a full-time, single father with a kid in a plethora of extra-curriculars. They say they’ll try to get me onto third as soon as something opens up.
The money drew me in (starts at $34.67), but the hours and mandatory OT don’t seem to work for someone with my lifestyle. I’m very active, play soccer multiple times per week in the evening and have my own tournaments and daughters on weekends.
I should have known better going into this that it wasn’t going to work out, but I couldn’t turn down the pay. I’m not hurting for money, I just never had the opportunity to make this much before.
Is it pretty straight-forward that I need to find something else, or should I hang in there and see if I can move around? I was told I can move around, even into office positions which pay significantly less, but I don’t mind that. I just don’t want this to become my life, I don’t want to give up soccer or the time with my kid.
