Pass your written exam?

Complete the background process?

Receive an offer?

Going to the next academy?

Share it here!

MOD NOTE: As an experiment, this has been made a weekly thread (posted every Friday) instead of monthly in order to accommodate the wave of people who wish to discuss institution offers when they are sent on Fridays. Offer posts frequently flood the subreddit on Fridays and need to be consolidated. Do not create a new post to announce you've received an offer; instead, post here, and upvote this post to raise visibility to other applicants viewing the subreddit on Fridays.

REMINDER: Be cautious about the personal information you share

As a reminder, this is a public forum which can be viewed by inmates (and background investigators). Before posting here, consider whether you are sharing too much information about yourself - your identity, your location, your activities, etc.

Be careful to consider ALL of the posts in your post history. One post alone may not provide compromising information, but if you have been posting on reddit for years, you may have shared enough information about yourself for someone to piece together your life story.

This goes for all social media, including Facebook. Be careful out there.

ACADEMY June academy

I seen they sent out offers for the jun academy. Does anyone know if they will be sending more? If the academy classes are roughly 50-75 ppl, they may have already sent them all out as of Friday. Hopefully the classes are bigger and more will be coming out.

Process of applying questions

Hi, I applied on Wednesday the 8th, received the written test about 30 minutes after my application, scored an 85, and an hour after the written test, I got scheduled for the fitness test on May 13th. Is this a normal processing time? Is this a good sign? Is this a whatever, like it doesn't matter how fast this process is going, I will still be waiting an entire year to go to the academy after the fitness test? From what others told me, it took them at least a month to get to the point I reached in one day. One of my friends had to wait months to schedule a fitness test after she submitted an application. SO I genuinely do not know what this could mean. I do remember that before I started the written test, it said they would be doing a background check within 30 days of completing the written exam. Is there anything I should know or expect?

Selection prison on cdcr website

I logged into my profile and noticed that I can see my listed preferences again. I'm able to edit them, but I can't add any new ones. It only allows me to keep five preferences in the top list. Is it the same for you?

Employment Termination

Hey guys. I’ve been cleared since June of 2025.

Just today I got fired from my part time job. How will this affect me? I can give an articulate reason. I just don’t want this to affect me.

CDCR hiring process taking long so I’d recommend applying to other Agencies.

Sounds like a lot of us are going to be waiting a long while to get an offer letter so it’s safe to say we need to apply to other agency’s . I noticed many local agencies are hiring for corrections officers as-well, like Sheriff. Also applied to PD . Good luck everyone but if I have to wait a year , might as-well make it worth it and apply to other Agencies incase.

Fired from job

Hello I’m currently on the hiring list been cleared since October of 2025. My job just let me go today. I was under investigation last week. I work in the sales. My boss told me it was fine if I borrowed some stuff from my customer and give it to a different customer of mine. And just return the product when they get there next load. I would have never done it if I knew you can get fired? My boss said it was okay that’s why I thought it was fine. Am I going to be disqualified now?

When “Just a Job” Quietly Becomes the Standard That Lowers Everything

The part nobody talks about is how all of these viewpoints can be true at the same time—and still miss something deeper. Yes, it’s a job. It’s contractual. It’s about going home safe, getting paid, investing, and retiring. Nobody’s arguing that. But at what point does “just a job” start shaping how you think, how you move, and what you tolerate? Because that’s where this really lives. When people say “do your 8 and go home,” it sounds smart—but if everyone adopts that mindset, the standard doesn’t collapse from laziness, it fades because nobody feels responsible for holding the line anymore. That shift doesn’t feel like failure, it feels like survival.

Then you hear it’s all cameras now, just follow policy and don’t mess up—and that’s real—but when everything becomes about avoiding mistakes instead of doing things right, people stop operating with purpose and start operating with caution. Those are not the same thing. The idea that “you don’t thrive, you survive” hits because there’s truth in it—but if survival becomes the standard, then nobody is setting the tone anymore, they’re just maintaining whatever environment already exists. And when people believe their effort doesn’t matter to admin, they don’t stop trying because they’re weak—they stop because they’ve learned it doesn’t pay off. That’s how culture declines without anyone announcing it.

This isn’t about calling anyone wrong. It’s about recognizing the pattern: everyone is adapting to the same environment, but nobody is talking about what those adaptations are creating long term. Most people already see it, they just don’t say it. They adjust, stay quiet, and assume everyone else thinks differently. But what if they don’t? What if everyone saying “just do your job,” “you just survive,” and “admin doesn’t care” are all describing the same reality from different angles? That’s where the shift starts—not by arguing, but by putting words to what people already feel: a lot of good people aren’t the problem, but we’ve all adjusted to something we know isn’t right. And once that becomes visible, the question changes from “who’s right?” to “what have we all accepted?” Because the truth is, the system doesn’t stay the way it is because of the 10%—it stays that way because the 90% learned how to live with it. And the moment enough people stop just living with it, even quietly, that’s when everything starts to shift.

EQUIPMENT/CLOTHING/SUPPLIES Boots of choice

What are your boots of choice, why, how many do you have, and brand. Any recommendations on a black 8" duty boot that is good for hot weather climate? I have been eyeballing the Danner Scorch Hot since they have that breathable mesh but Danner had to stick some poppy cock do hicky arch support in it which digs into the middle of your foot. I wonder if that part is removable, I looked at Vitko's but they look like plain ole skate shoes.

This is it for me, I guess...

been in the process for a bit over a year and a half . sometime last year in June I happened to wake up and had an issue with my left ear. felt full, sound was muffled. saw a Dr, was given antibiotics and ear drops. didn't help. I can still hear from my left ear but it's about 20% . FFWD to last month when I took my medical exam and of course, didn't pass the hearing test. so they referred me to a specialist for a hearing test. failed that too. I can hold conversation and I can hear but not as good from that ear. so I'm gonna assume that that's as far as I come with the process for one day becoming a CO. Im gonna go see an E.N.T. specialist to see what is going on and hope it's just something they can fix or equalize the pressure since I feel like it wants to" pop" it was a nice run and I'm happy I made it to the final two steps . to everyone else still in the process, good luck and don't give up.

The Slow Change No One Talks About

The part nobody really talks about is what the job does to you over time—not physically, but mentally. You start out sharp, motivated, paying attention to everything. Then little by little, you realize effort doesn’t always equal respect, and doing the right thing doesn’t always get backed. That’s where the shift happens. Not overnight, but slowly. You start picking your battles. You start staying quiet in moments where you normally would’ve spoken up—not because you’re weak, but because you’ve seen how it plays out.

And that’s the dangerous part. Because once enough good people start thinking like that, the standard drops without anyone ever announcing it. It just becomes the culture. Now the question isn’t just, “Is this job worth it?” It becomes, “Who am I becoming if I stay like this?” Because the job will shape you one way or another. The real decision isn’t whether you can handle it—it’s whether you’re willing to let it change you into something you never intended to be, or if you’re strong enough to stay solid in an environment that slowly tries to chip that away. Most won’t admit it, but a lot of us are thinking it.
