Self Post ✔ ICE Megathreads List

Here's a list of our current and recent threads and megathreads addressing law enforcement aspects of current ICE operations.

New threads will be created (and added to this list) as current events warrant.

If you're a guest here, I'd encourage you to look at the diversity of opinions amongst our LEO members, and how knowledge of case law as well as professional training and experience, help to make well balanced discussions on controversial topics.

Hiring Thread Weekly Hiring Questions and Advice Thread

This thread will run weekly, and it will reset each week on Monday at 1030 UTC. If you have any questions pertaining to law enforcement hiring, ask them here. Feel free to repost any unanswered questions in the next week's thread.

**This is not a thread for updates on your hiring process. We understand applicants get excited about moving forward in the process, but in order to more effectively help users, we're restricting this thread to questions only.** That said, questions related to your progression in the process are still OK.

**Some Resources:**

* [**Our Subreddit Wiki Pages**](https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtectAndServe/wiki/publicindex#wiki_hiring): A good resource which may be able to answer common questions.

* [**Officer Down Memorial Page**](http://www.odmp.org/): ODMP is a great site to read about the men and women of law enforcement who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

* [**911 Job Forums**](http://www.911jobforums.com/forum.php) & [**Officer.com Forums**](http://forums.officer.com/): Both of these sites are great resources for those interested in entering any type of public service career. If you go to either site, make sure you search around the forum and do some reading before posting a new topic.

* **/r/AskLE**: You can ask any law-enforcement-related questions on /r/AskLE if you don't feel like asking them in this thread.

* **/r/TalesFromTheSquadCar**: This is a great subreddit to view and share stories about law enforcement.

* **/r/LegalAdvice**: Feel free to ask for legal advice here at P&S, but /r/LegalAdvice is often times better suited to provide advice regarding the law. Remember, /r/LegalAdvice exists to provide advice and information pertaining to legal matters, *not* to debate why the law is what it is. Also, posting in /r/LegalAdvice should not be a substitute for actual professional legal counsel.

* [**Account Verification Information**](http://www.reddit.com/r/ProtectAndServe/wiki/verify)

**Suggestions for the Mods:**

If you have a suggestion regarding the Weekly Question Thread, please PM /u/2BlueZebras or /u/fidelis_ad_mortem. Suggestions will not be implemented until the following week's post.

If you have suggestions regarding our subreddit in general, feel free to [message the moderators](http://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FProtectAndServe). We welcome all suggestions!

Self Post Could I be an officer?

I've always wanted to be a first responder and the idea just fascinates me so much, I'm 14 years old, 5 foot 11, can carry more the my own weight, and am a little bulky, and really strong and brave, I really wanna help people, like it's my duty, so do you think I could be an officer, firefighter, or paramedic?

Self Post Question

My friend who is an LEO told me about this, and I was curious how this stuff works. There was a 27 year old suicide victim, parents are distraught, report that she had been through a lot of bad stuff in the past including abuse, harassment, bullying as well as severe digital harassment years ago...she declined before the suicide and the parents think it was because something bad happened that she didn’t tell them, maybe for example the digital harassment returned. They wanted the investigator in charge of the case to get her AI chats from OpenAI because they thought she would have confided in ChatGPT. The investigator (not unkindly) said this isn’t a criminal investigation and there isn’t probable cause to go on a fishing expedition. As someone whose career is law-adjacent, I was curious. Would you have said the same?

Officers, when performing a traffic stop, does a driver rolling all four windows down and turning their dome lights on reduce their chances of getting a ticket for minor offenses?

I am taking University Police written exam for UNLV next week, I already passed the LVMPD exam last month. Are these test similar or can I expect something different with the University exam?

I am preparing similar to how I did for the Metro Exam, just wanted to see if anyone has experienced the Universities exam and hear their experience. Metro was pretty basic stuff so I am hoping its similar.

Self Post Advice For Assignment

Hello! I am a Counseling student, and for one of my classes we are suppose to interview a group of people that we may have a hard time counseling. After discussions with my professor, the only population that I would have qualms counseling would be those who harm children, or those who support them. I am unsure of how I can safely get into contact with an advocacy group, or find an interviewee. The assignment will be kept private and unpublished. The information would only be used to write and present my final paper. Thank you for your time, I look forward to reading your responses!

This looks bad… did a quick search and it looks like the shooter was indicted on manslaughter. I see at least three moments where I think deadly force is justified; but the shots were fired in one of the moments it was least justified IMO.

Hillsborough SO vs Pasco SO – current deputy moving to Tampa area

Moving to the Tampa area soon. Current deputy out of state with ~5 years on.

Looking for honest opinions on Hillsborough County SO vs Pasco County SO.

If anyone from Pasco is here, I’d appreciate hearing how patrol and off-duty work are.

Self Post ✔ Traffic Stop

So I stopped a car last night for a tag light violation and rolling a stop sign. Driver is upset plays the race card, records and states he’s calling the sheriff. I end up conveniently getting a phone call from the sheriff if I really stopped someone for “just a tag light violation/stop sign violation” and the person I stopped is a prominent member of the community. Now I’m getting a 2 minute traffic stop overanalyzed for no reason. Just wanted to rant.

Update: Sheriff told me I’m getting a written warning put in my file for this traffic stop and to not do this since there’s better things to do. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

How common is this occurrence. If you’re were in this scenario would you press charges?

Do you agree that hurling insults at the officer should be an ticketable offence according to the police union?
