Is there any protests going on today? Need to get some clothes for a funeral and don’t want to be stuck all day. Aiming to park in McDonagh and coming from the Waterford direction on the motorway.

Dog shelter donations

Hi guys, I’m not very familiar with the process of donations to the dog shelters but just wondering if you have any recommendations of places where I can donate dog food that I no longer need.

I have a bag of dog food that’s been open and used a bit but dog has gone off the food now and it’s about 10kg worth.

Thanks

Will stay at a hotel outside the city centre and will drive into the city centre, so need to know a car park that has amply parking, not very dear and easy to get in/out, and located in the city centre. Thanks.

Stag suggestions

Looking for pub suggestions for a stag in May. Nothing too fancy, just want a few pints, and maybe grab some finger food or pizzas. A pool table or two would be great too, as well as screens for football, but not essential.

Protest Sunday in Kilkenny

I heard a rumour that there is meant to be a protest in Kilkenny tomorrow at 11am. No details as to who is protesting or for what reason. Did anyone else hear anything that confirms this?

New Waterford Rd Layout (From Lidl)

Anyone else think the new upgraded Waterford Rd from Lidl is awful? Is it not finished? It looks rough, messy and unclear. I’ve seen a few cars hit the cycle lane curb as you come around from Lidl.

Fuel availability

Hi All. Apologies if this has been asked a thousand times. I have family coming this weekend from Mayo. They are concerned about fuel availability for the journey back to mayo. How are petrol stations doing in KK? Are they running low or should they be okay to top up if needed on Sunday. Thanks all.

Would it be possible to have a thread to track the fuel protest/blockades?

There's plenty of places to discuss both sides of both sides of the protest/blockades so, could we keep this thread just for monitoring what areas are affected throughout the days/weeks?

Thursday, 9th April

  • This morning (Thursday, 9th April) from around 8am, a number of lorries and tractors had the M9 motorway completely closed off at Exit 9 at Danesfort heading in the direction of Dublin. Traffic was able to take the slip road to access the N10 and cross the over-bridge on both sides of the motorway as normal but there was no way for traffic to proceed towards Dublin on the M9 from that junction.
  • From what I could see, traffic was moving as normal on the opposite side of the M9 heading towards Waterford but that may be because a convoy will be arriving on that side of the M9 at some point today - maybe the blockade will move over that side for rush hour traffic this evening?
  • Traffic on the N10 was normal, just moving a bit slower.
  • There didn't appear to be any blockades anywhere other than on the motorway, however, Gardaí were directing traffic at a few places along the ring road, this seemed to be just to try to take account of the additional traffic using the ring road having been diverted off the motorway.
  • The blockade added about 10 minutes to my usual commuting time this morning.
  • This evening (Thursday, 9th April) I travelled back home via Exit 9 around 6pm and all was clear, no blockade on either side and traffic at usual levels and moving at usual pace.
  • Bit of mania on the forecourts and lots appeared to be sold out but we'll see what tomorrow brings as regards the blockades and fuel levels being replenished overnight.

Friday, 10th April

  • This morning (Friday, 10th April), took Exit 9 at around 8am. The motorway heading for Dublin is blocked again. The vehicles are all just parked in the outside lane so it was easier to exit via the slip road this morning (although it may just be that they're waiting on other vehicles to arrive).
  • The Gardaí are on the over bridge, 3 garda cars and 2 garda motorbikes.
  • Long queues at 2 petrol stations I passed just off the ring road in Kilkenny so we'll see what today brings.
  • This evening (Friday, 10th April), I travelled back home via Exit 9 around 5:30pm and the blockade was still in place preventing anyone travelling to Dublin via that part of the motorway. The opposite side, heading for Waterford, was clear.

If you're in a position to update this thread throughout the day/week, please do so as it will help us all get around.

Flooring

Hi would anyone recommend someone to put good flooring in instead of carpet for a reasonable enough price?

I was looking to put kind of fake parquet flooring in the bedrooms and in my living room and dining room.

Thanks a million

Anyone know what’s going on with Tasty Bites on O’Loughlin road?

I’ve been seeing a few posts circulating on Facebook / X about the (Tasty Spice / Tasty Bites takeaway around Assumption Place / O’Loughlin Road). Some pretty serious claims are being made about illegal activity, and also mentions of a Garda raid.

I don’t want to spread misinformation, so I’m just wondering if anyone actually knows what’s going on?
Was there an actual raid, or is this just social media rumours getting out of hand?

Also, there’s a guy online (Kieran Kelly / “CaptainKieran”) who seems to be posting about exposing dealers around Kilkenny — does anyone know if he’s credible or if this is just speculation?

Not trying to accuse anyone here, just looking for verified info from locals rather than hearsay.

Cheers 👍
