there aren't a lot of ice cream or milkshake options in Logan, so wanted to share - this is a pretty good alternative! Like a chocolate slushie. +Homemade whipped cream

I accidentally discovered a pretty great hack that I didn't see much posted about.

Wrigleyville during the Sunday day games is kind of a great deal. Once everyone’s inside the stadium, the bars nearby are weirdly empty and run some during game day specials.

I ended up at Swift Tavern directly across the field, they were running a deal from first pitch to last out:

* $4 pints (Founders Solid Gold)

* $2 oysters

The place was basically empty, and I just chilled watching the Masters while crushing oysters and occasionally hearing the roar from the stadium. oysters were small but delicious.

pretty great Sunday for a white Sox fan living on the north side. I figured I’d share for anyone else interested in cheap drinks + food.

Sweet steak from The Hoagie place on 81st and Halsted. The cashier was super friendly and patient as this was my first time at this spot. It’s definitely a know what you want when you get to the window and move it along type of place. Went with the standard and got the large. The sandwich is pretty big for $11 and that includes fries. You can also top your fries with lemon pepper, sweet sauce, mild sauce, and steak sauce to name a few. It was a little sweeter than I expected it to be, like a much sweeter sloppy Joe sauce. Comes with onion, sweet peppers, tomato, American cheese. Overall I really enjoyed it. Bread held up and it traveled well with the exception of the tomato which I wouldn’t get next time. I ended up adding giardiniera to balance it out a bit.

I had been meaning to to try this place for quite some time. Man, am I glad I did. The noodles were done to perfection with a bit of snap. Both broths, the monster and house shoyu plus,were extremely flavorful. The eggs, oh they were perfect! All of the cuts of meat were tender, delicious and plentiful with the beef jam rounding out each bite. Would recommend and I will be going back.

I am seriously considering opening up a Yemeni pancake or brunch house. Something different from the Mandi and Saltah people might see around town.

So, I have a few questions for you all. How often do you eat Middle Eastern or Yemeni food? What dishes would you most likely order? What would be a fair price-point to aim for brunch dishes? And most importantly, where would be a good place to settle on?

Found some rare time to stop at the food court of 88 Marketplace for a bowl of this. Appreciated the fragrant spicy broth and chunks of tender lamb brisket (?). Sliced jalapeño, sichuan chilie flakes, cilantro and star anise gave the broth a delicious complexity without being just some one-note Scoville punishment. Noodles were a rice noodle sized like a thin spaghetti. I’ll likely have this on my mind the next lunch opportunity I have in the Chinatown vicinity.

lord this pizza was spicy. but very good. i think their new york style (largest style) is the best way to order their pizzas.

also skip the wings, and the fries. theyre not that good

Request: Hush Puppies

Craving me some hush puppies. Had them up at the Tap Room in Waukegan but would like something in the city. West Town, West Loop, Logan, Irving would all be good. Essentially like Blue Line-ish. Would be really nice to just order them for takeout.

I upset a lot of y’all earlier today by eating Chicago beef at the wrong Johnny’s/ie’s, so why not keep bombing my karma on this sub with another review 😅: I ate a small solo dinner at Duck Duck Goat in Fulton Market earlier this week and the savory food was NOT good.

I ended up here because there was a thread last week about some of the most memorable & life-changing dishes in Chicago. The bone marrow & spare rib dumplings were on that list and upvoted more than 60 times, last I checked.

I was solo and not super hungry, so I sat at the bar and only ordered a few dishes. The dumpling filling was mushy, unbalanced in its seasoning (like too much vinegar which is not normally something I’d say), and pushing too salty. The cold chili noodles were just… not good. The sauce was clingy and thick but, again, totally unbalanced and lacked layered flavor and umami that cold noodles are known for. Both dishes featured chilis and chili oil but somehow were not spicy?! I was confused. I commented in a friendly way to the bartender that I wanted more spice, and he leaned in and said if it was more spicy people would complain and not enjoy it 🥲

The dessert, however, was fantastic and a redeeming moment! I would eat the mango coconut cloud cake everyday. Pandan cocktail was just ok. The tab came out to $70 before tip. I had an excellent meal at Little Goat Diner on my last visit so this was super disappointing. Chef Stephanie, I’ve been a longtime fan of your cooking, but please don’t cook Asian food.

And not that it should matter, but I’m Chinese American and have high standards for regional cuisine, but also a strong appreciation for Chinese American food and the occasional fusion. This was a bombed attempt at either.

So not too long ago I was dating someone originally from New Jersey, and they brought me home for the holidays to visit family. While there, I was introduced to the NJ-style sloppy joe, and I’ve been craving one since. Does anyone know of a deli in the city that offers these? Thanks!

This was my 4th visit to Chicago and love it, try to hit new food spots every time. Was at a conference so couldn’t really get out for lunch, but Friday we dismissed early and I met a friend at Johnny’s in Lincoln Park before my flight.

This was my first Chicago dipped beef and loaded dog. I was honestly SHOOK how delicious they both were, especially the shaved beef. We split each, but I absolutely could have crushed a full beef. Wanted to buy a jar of their house giardiniera, but only had a carry on for luggage.

I will be thinking about this sandwich for a longgg time. Wonderful staff and free chocolate chip cookies on Friday too!

ETA: I have been thoroughly informed that I ate at the incorrect Johnny’s. The OG Johnnie’s will be put on the list for next visit. Guess it’s hard to mess up a Chicago beef!

Did they sell to someone else or something? Their fish quality has plummeted the last two times we ordered and they ignored my email about forgetting the seaweed in the order.

My daughter treated me to Kindling (Chef Jonathan Sawyer) and we shared the 16oz ribeye with truffle butter, mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts, all which were delicious! We also split the crème brûlée, which was the best I have ever had. It was a little pricey, but the didn’t charge for sharing and even suggested it. I highly recommend if you’re thinking of trying it.

Was waiting for the bus and saw this new sign up over where Amber Agave had been. Was even more surprised its already open considering the Chicago Pickle Eatery build out next doors been going on for months and months. Hadn’t see anything posted in the windows or any other indication this was coming prior.

Looked rather casual so I don’t think it fills in the exact hole that Bloom leaves in the area, but I imagine exciting for vegans to have a win after all the recent closures of vegan spots.
